Greetings, programs!
I haven't been around here for a long time, due to very personal reasons. (Nothing for anyone to worry about. Just stuff.) But it's heartwarming and humbling to come back to people still enjoying and reblogging the works I did during Tronblr's post-Legacy heyday. TRON's setting, characters, and community were such a powerful part of my life for over a decade. They dominated my creative development and brought so much good into my life.
I don't even know how many times I watched Legacy in theaters, not to mention consuming all the other TRON media as it became available up until Uprising was unofficially cancelled. But I am not going to watch TRON 3 or anything else under the Disney/Universal umbrella in theaters or on any platform for a very long time.
It's not about anything in the movie; I've seen almost no spoilers and completely forgot JL was involved until recently. It's the irreconcilable dissonance. Corporations that roll over for authoritarianism do not get any of my limited entertainment budget for tossing us a bread-and-circuses bone from a franchise about doing the opposite of that.
This personal and private decision hurts (in its very minor slice of the current awfulness spectrum) because this universe and its characters and message and potential have meant so much to me, but it's what I have to do. It's not a judgment on anyone engaging in the fandom or taking comfort in it in all the ways that were so vital for me in my time here. While I won't be engaging in Tronblr activity, I'll probably see some of your stuff and be silently glad you and it exist. Fandoms, at their best, generate joy and build community. We all need that.
Take care out there. All this, the community and creativity and joy, exists because you do. Stay safe, and I'll see you on the other side.
