Men speaking over women
Has anyone noticed that?
How guys not only tend to interrupt women, but also completely speaking over them without stopping to apologize or giving them a chance to speak up.
I’m currently sitting in a tutorial with 50 people, the tutor being a guy and we’re supposed to just speak. Which I’ve noticed to be a disadvantage for the present females.
When a girl and a boy speak at the same time, the boy just continues to speak and talk over the girl until she stops talking because she’s not being heard. I get that when two people speak at the same time only one of them can talk first. That’s fine. But when it’s two guys the one speaking first goes sorry you were saying?
With girls they don’t. Or at least not always.
I know this is not always the case but it’s something I’ve just noticed specifically. I know it’s science that men are more likely to speak up in group settings and that men’s brains tend to recognize female voices less than male.
A girl has to fight a lot more than a boy in order to be heard.
It’s happened to me multiple times in the past 20 minutes and for some reason I was the only one who noticed, while with guys he apologized and gave them a chance to speak.
All of this happened unconsciously, he wasn’t purposefully trying to silence me. He’s not a bad guy.
This completely baffled me and I had to talk about it.
Has anyone had similar experiences? Not in a malicious way, but in a completely normal setting.
For all those “never been diagnosed”
Just because you’ve never seen a doctor or therapist about it, just because you’ve never been “properly diagnosed” by a professional, doesn’t mean you can’t have it.
You can still be depressed, have anxiety or be fighting an eating disorder. You can still be mentally ill.
It doesn’t mean that you don’t need help.
It doesn’t mean you don’t deserve help.
You’re not “not sick enough” to qualify as mentally ill or deserving of help. This is not a competition. You are not taking away from those who “really” need help.
Also, good days/weeks don’t take away from the bad days. Not every day needs to be a bad day for you to struggle with mental illness.
You do not have to have hit rock bottom.
You can realize for yourself that you’re mentally ill or are on the best way to becoming mentally ill.
You’re not not ill simply because you have noticed your own behavior and are no longer in denial.
Not everyone can get themselves out. Most people can’t.
Don’t be afraid to speak up just because “others are sicker”, “I have no reason to feel like this”, “others will say I’m exaggerating” or because you are not “far enough in yet”.
—————————
This is something that, although I’ve seen people post about it before, is not addressed enough.
Not everyone knows this. And they need to.
Please share this so people who might be struggling will stumble across it and will be reminded!
—————————
If you feel like this post spoke to you or you want to share your experience, or you are doubting whether it’s “bad enough” yet or you are struggling, or you’ve been diagnosed, are in recovery, relapsing, having a bad day and/or need someone to listen, maybe someone who actually has been there, you can always message me privately and I promise to keep your privacy and be willing to listen and be free of any judgement.
Don’t worry that you’ll “bother me” or that it’s “not that serious”.
(This also includes any pressures regarding school/uni/friends, burn outs etc!)
when a woman is faster, stronger, better at sports - it’s because “she’s on enhancement drugs” “she’s manly” “the sport is easier when it’s played by girls.”Â
when a woman is smarter, classier, makes more money - it’s because “she studies something easy” “slept her way to the top” “used affirmative action to get what she needs”
“overwhelmingly, men are perpetrators of mass violence” i say. this is a fact. i am reminded not to be too generalizing, because that isn’t fair. not all men, after all.
women are used to this. when we hold up serena williams, laverne cox, mae c. jemison to prove: we can do the same as you. we are told: no, those are the exception. there’s something wrong in the system or in them that makes it so they rose above their station. they’re not like other women. but every woman who is bitter, bitchy, cruel: they’re proof all women have personalities that follow the stereotype rules. it doesn’t matter that women are better surgeons, girls do better than boys in school, women are better leaders, better lawyers, are better at investing and finances, better drivers. but all women are stupid, hysterical, emotional messes that can’t drive and would nuke the country if someone called them a mean name.
but it’s not all men. not all police officers. not all frat boys. not all, just some bad apples, just some, don’t i know to judge people on the content of their character and not on who they are.
from the time they’re young, boys are given the benefit of the doubt. from the time girls are young, they’re told the majority of them will drown.
people are scrambling to figure out what is wrong with american schools that girls are doing so much better. maybe it’s because girls are suddenly now more likely to be morning people? is it unfair grading? is it some type of learning-style difference? is it all the exposure to female teachers? after all, if girls are doing so much better, there’s something wrong, right? there’s something wrong with the system?
men overwhelmingly are to blame for mass violence. just last night i watched a reporter ask the camera: “is this because of the women in his life?”

I like a lot of people, but my favorite are the ones who stay. The ones who you give a million reasons to leave and they find the one to stay. The ones who won’t leave you even if they know they should, because they care. They care so fucking much, and it kills them, but they won’t ever dare abandon you. They won’t ever, because they know better than anyone the feeling of being left when you need someone the most. So here’s to the ones that stay.
Stay. (via dreamsofaparadox)

Within one year we went from best friends to strangers, back to best friends and somehow ended up as strangers. Again.
And that with two different people. What have I done to deserve this ?
I'm done with him, absolutely, but that doesn't mean I don't care anymore.
The end always hurts
Best friends are supposed to be there for each other. Best friends are supposed to get through issues and problems between them. Best friends are supposed to have each other’s backs no matter what. So what happened between us? Best friends aren’t supposed to cut each other off without warning. I guess we weren’t really “best friends” after all.
