The Giovanni Story
Fan fiction based on the video “The Simple Interview” by Jack N John
1.
Giovanni is in immense fear. It is dawning on him that his memories / “identity” / “experiences” are akin to the feces in his diapers micromanaged by his family, unworthy of entering a larger competitive market of matter/imaginaries. Not part of the Great Exchange. A truly abject horror opens up when he is forced to say his own name. Unable to utter it correctly, it is obvious that this was intended to be the name of a normal person. Not living up to the challenge posed by it, never asked for it etc. Still forced to sweat, defecate, interact, remember, formulate ideas etc.
This is the simple interview: eventually, there will, or “should”, be more difficult ones. Giacomo knows his body can be many things: in relation to Giovanni’s, he sees it as something liminal to his brother’s field, not as a barrier, a rigid dump of flesh that obstructs for no good reason, but as a gatekeeper, an actor with the capacity to decide what gets to pass through his gate, one that makes the conscious decision to give Giovanni the chance to pass the test, to see if he’s good enough to get out. Evidently, Giovanni will never make it, still, there is a difference. The job interview game is a favorite pastime for both brothers, repeated on a near-daily basis with minor variations. One might say, “a bond between them is reaffirmed”, but the exact parameters of this bond remain stubbornly shrouded in some sort of mystery.
2.
Giovanni is working out how his weewee can be stimulated. As the (obvious) euphoria wears off, he is overcome by an immense anxiety. It is as though by figuring out this automatism, he has betrayed his one true principle: that of a purely aleatoric living. He identifies the presence of causality in the universe as the ur-bully: if similar input always yields similar results, he will likely always be a retard, and that would just be too much to bear. He runs a toy truck repeatedly over his balls, over his taint. His taint is like a highway, except the destination is different each time.
The first time Giacomo’s semen crashes into the bedsheets, there is only a warm, knowing smile. All along this was part of the deal, part of the investment etc. Giovanni cannot imagine a world where his fluids / emissions can be accounted for. He has come to know the idea of the diaper as a buffer between himself and whatever there is outside of him as a given. Where his obscure, vaguely shameful emissions go then is none of his business: the discontinuity is immediate. No one should have to see those materials, which is why SHE will ALWAYS take care of and absorb ALL of them for she is WARRIOR MOM. She is a warrior and a saint meaning no aesthetic, moral or sensory factors will hinder her absorption of the entire content of Giovanni’s diapers so the outside world doesn’t have to. She will create black holes, chasms in immanence and dissolve the abject all to herself. The diaper-mother, the absorbent-mother.
At this point, Giovanni does not hate* his genitals as much as he is perplexed by them, or the apparent significance Others seem to ascribe to their equivalents of his own uncanny pee apparatus. The obvious difference between being 8 and 12 seems to have escaped him in a way Viewer sometimes likes to think they wish it had them. Perhaps in a few decades, the PR of the biopolitical free agent lifestyle will have grown strong enough that Giovanni will learn to seize upon the opportunity to have his penis and testicles removed, attaining the genital status most befitting the “personality” he was assigned.
3.
As all systems, a human will tend towards homeostasis. Meaning the more its linguistic capacities are left in / forced to silence, the more its bowels will take up the role of medium in contact with the outside world. This leads to attempts at contact largely perceived as unpleasant (i.e. incontinence, excessive and inappropriate flatulence / bowel movements), furthering the retard’s isolation from society etc. It is unclear whether we may speak of some “inherent” hierarchy between information conveyable via language and via bowel movements; that said, better adjusted humans are largely able to confine their communicative activity to upper parts of the body. It is arguable that the platonic ideal of man being “in control” can be equated with a sovereign, immutable agency of communication that is all language / no lower body movements. However, most humans are considered to be the happiest during adolescence, when information is conveyed by both upper and lower parts of the body in approximately equal measure.
While Giovanni is able to recognize the communicative faculties of his upper body parts as being somewhat insufficient, the thought of establishing any “meaningful” contact with the outside world, whatever that means, has never really entered his mind. The outside world seems to persist on nurturing him with various stimuli, however, these stimuli are not to be “taken in” (by whom?) or “judged” (by whom?) in any hierarchical sense, although one emotional response seems to nonetheless be recurring: humiliation. The only concept of “self” Giovanni is able to muster up is “that for which one can be humiliated”. An endless series of mock job interviews carving out its shorelines. Who is “one”, then? Utter fucking darkness.
Giovanni sees his own body as an assemblage of different objects, each of which have some use but have no unifying principle so they can be reassembled in any random order and he only has a limited amount of objects to work with so why not try every available combination. This may lead him to do things like smearing the feces from his diapers over his cut up arms for no apparent reason etc. Giacomo is feeling moved by the idea that a being that, albeit with obvious imperfections, ostensibly sprang from the same cunt he did, is capable of some deep thought.
4.
The video description reads: “Inside all the people there is a unique world. Who is a down? I don’t know, but i can tell who is Giovanni.” What, then, constitutes this „unique world”, what are its borders, its laws, its nature, its geometry, its inhabitants, its peculiar customs to differentiate it from other “worlds”? What, for Giovanni, does it mean that Giacomo “can tell”? To be known, to be figured out completely, may have been the question Giovanni intended to ask when he stabbed Giacomo in the throat with a kitchen knife, then stabbed him another 296 times. It ostensibly started like this:
“We are going to make so many videos together. We are going to be so famous, we are going to be bigger than the Leonardo Di Caprio. We are going to win the Oscars. Daddy’s back is going to be bent from all the heavy golden cups, all the awards he’ll be carrying, but he’ll also be crying because it’s his sons who won all those awards and he’ll be so proud. And all the bigwigs on Hollywood Blvd. will be whispering, they will be like, nobody fucks with Jack N John”. A heavy miasma of body odor and exaggerated limb movements to signify that Giacomo is highly invested in this idea, this thought pattern. Tears in his eyes because some faggot ass shit.
Giovanni is feeling defeated by the smell. It is not so much a question of his brother “smelling bad” but one of: what right does he have to this judgement? What source does this unspoken agreement derive from, the one under which he clearly has no right, reason, language, power, or means to voice this discomfort? Who is even making this judgement? If he, known object that he is, is merely an ontological subset of Giacomo’s mind, are his thoughts technically just Giacomo’s as he is bothered by his own smell, talking to himself, crying? Bringing it up would be “inappropriate” even on a surface level, meaning the hierarchy of signs currently in place regards the linguistic / “emotional” content of what is being said to be more important, that much Giovanni can tell. Or does it? How can this hierarchy be a) known b) addressed c) overthrown?
“Jack N John is no more” – he says. It’s just something he’s taken to saying because he thought it sounded good, like a tagline for a movie (he doesn’t watch movies but loves the taglines). It does not cross his mind how this might relate to anything he’s just done. He’s been saying this for a while now and he’ll continue to say it for a while longer.
