A/N: Hopefully this is okay 🥺 I rushed a little at the very end because I LOST ALL MY PATIENCE but here we are. I love this man so much. That is all.
SUMMARY: Volleyball season is near and your ever-loving fiancé tries real hard to prepare for the upcoming events. That is, until his teammates decided to take a day off to clear the mind. This is the ONE and ONLY time where he takes a day off from volleyball. You’re happy you can spend time with him, but you knew what you had to do.. you had to tell him the big news. Will you be able to tell him?
- Koutarou Bokuto has always dreamed of becoming the best volleyball spiker in the world. He‘s held onto this ball of growing passion for volleyball ever since high school. And the ball never stopped growing. He practiced and worked days and nights on his volleyball skills. He was always the last person to leave the gym. He kept on hitting balls till his palms were numb and covered with blisters. He even tried doing it left handed when his right hand became way to beat (He’s not half bad with his left hand now!!). Even when his hands were in agony, even when his legs couldn’t move anymore, even when he barely got any rest, all of this work paid off once he arrived to rhe nationals. He surprised teams with his spikes again and again and again. Every year he showed immense growth that one can’t help but notice.
- Every spike, every block, and every serve was surely impressive, but his sense of teamwork out did it all. He brought the team together. Made them as one. Volleyball is a team sport. No one can play on court on their own. The moment someone thinks “I’m special” is when they’re done for. He learned this quite quickly, as he has always been a people person. He understands his mistakes and failures and confronts them. Kou now, 28 years old, is a professional volleyball player. He is one of the best spikers in all of japan, and is getting even better as time goes on.
- You have always admired Kou and his love for volleyball. You’ve been with him for over five years and it has been one hell of a journey. Going to every match, watching him spike every ball, score every point, winning every match and going up to nationals. You’ve seen it all. You’ve seen every win and every loss. You’ve seen him on stage and behind the scenes. You know the ins and outs of this man.
- But, it wasn’t his volleyball skills that intrigued you to dating him.
- His personality really outshined everyone elses. He was loud, maybe a little obnoxiously noisy, bubbily, energetic, and moody. He was definitely a handful to take care of. To some people, they saw him as an obnoxious idiot that didn’t know any better. Well, knowing him these past couple years, they aren’t completely wrong. But to you, he was something much more. It was almost like love at first sight. Except, you didn’t fall in love right away. Your first thought when you saw him was “I want to be friends with this guy.” And (spoilers) you did! You and Kou really clicked when you started getting to know each other. He brought out the best side of you and you brought out the best side of him. You guys were really inseparable.
- Before you even realized, you started falling in love with that idiot. Not only were you thinking of him in a more romantic way, you thought he suddenly looked 100x hotter? You even asked if he got a haircut or changed his stlye which he only replied “No?”
- Every little thing he did made you attracted to him. Every laugh, every smile, every word. It just made you fall head over heels for him. And when he (horribly) asked you out you could almost cry. You were just so excited. The man you adored just asked you out. Imagine that!! Well, you don’t have to imagine. Because that’s what exactly happened to you. Timelapse to current time, you’re still with the love of your life. Just like his love for volleyball, your love for his stupidly pretty face never stops growing. His awkward personality is brighter than ever. To be quite frank, you feel the most content right now.
- Volleyball season is near, and Bokuto is practicing harder than ever. You rarely get to have quality time with him, as he comes home to go straight to bed and wakes up about to leave for the day. You’re pretty used to him acting like this. After all, he is a professional volleyball player. This is his work. This factor never bothers you because you understand. But, recently, it has made you slightly annoyed. You’ve been trying to find time to spend with you’re loving fiancé, but he is always busy with volleyball. You’ve been cursing at the volleyball gods a little bit (don’t tell Bokuto, though).
- You have something really important to say to him. Something where quality time is a necessity.
- Today is the one day where Bokuto stays home to get away from volleyball. To take a break. Although the volleyball season is near, that doesn’t mean you have to practice hardcore till you puke out guts. The best thing to do is to not overwhelm yourself especially around these times. Everyone else in his volleyball team were taking the day off, too. It was a whole group thing. Bukuto really hated it. like truly hated it. He wanted to practice! Yet, he knows better than anyone it’s for the best. Doing too much of something is always never good for the mind and body. He’s jusy impatient and want to spike a ball! Critique his form! Perfectionalize it!
- Despite hating the time off, he is enjoying it in the aspect of you. He can have some alone time with you without needing to worry about volleyball. Well, all his mind thinks about is volleyball. It can really burn him out and make him have a week long depressive episode. But with you here? Your cuddles, you’re laughter, he could care less about the sport. All that he needs to think about is you. He’s happy. You make it worth missing practice. He knows him leaving you for volleyball can hurt you. You always say it’s fine, and Bokuto knows that it‘s fine, but he still worries sometimes. He wants to use days like these to clear any of those doubts or thoughts in the back of your mind. This is his day to prove himself to you. He never leaves your side!
- Bokuto sits on the couch watching TV as you sat next to him. All day you’ve been trying to find the right time to tell him the news, but its been a tougher task than anticipated. It never seems to be the right time. And it‘s already seven o’clock.. you‘re running out of time till he’s back to his everyday practice. You often have to reassure yourself that these things take time and shouldn’t be rushed. So what you don’t tell him about it tonight? The time will come.
- But you‘re determined to tell him today.
- “Koutarou?” You call out.
- Bokuto hums in response, breaking his attention from the TV to you, “Hmm?”
- You fiddle with your fingers, nervous as heck. How is he going to take it? Will he be mad? Sad? Happy? You have a guess as to how he’ll react, but you don’t know when it comes to Bokuto. He can be quite moody at times, so you truly can’t pinpoint how he might react. You take a deep breath, “Can I talk to you?”
- Bokuto smiles, “You’re talking to me now, aren’t you?” He chuckles, “What is it?”
- You sigh to ease your slight nervousness. Well, slight is an understatement. You shuffle around the couch so your body is fully facing him. Bokuto reaches out for the remote and turns down the TV audio. He made it so it was barely audible. All his attentikn was on you. He wouldn’t usually do this, but he can tell the change in the atmosphere. He doesn’t know the what, or the why, but he wants you to know he hears you. His body also shifts to face you. As he studies you more, he notices you fidgeting. You’re nervous. No matter how good you hide it, he can see right through you. He can read you like a book. His brain isn’t too sure what you could be concerned about. It’s him—you’re fiancé—what is there to be nervous about? But he still sat patiently with a hint of concern in his eyes.
- You look down at your lap, picking and looking at your fingers. You aren’t too sure how to start this conversation. Even though you rehearsed it in your head plenty times, your brain went blank. At the night he proposed, you told yourself to look at your ring when you’re feeling any source of sadness or doubt. So, you do just that. You study your ring finger like it’s your first time seeing it. It‘s so beautiful. The ring takes your breath away everytime. It’s truly perfect. Bokuto told you it was basically calling your name when he first saw it at the jewelry store. It makes your heart flutter imagining Bokuto picking out a ring without you knowing. He got literally everyone to help out. Your parents, siblings (if you have any), friends, and even HIS family and friends for advice. He really wanted to pick the perfect ring for you. And he did. You couldn’t be happier.
- You deeply inhale, looking up to meet Bokuto, “Kou... you know the night you asked me to marry you?”
- “Yeah, I do.” Bokuto smiles to himself at the thought. That is, until his face turns into a worried expression, “Do you not want to go through with it? Are you not ready? Are-“
- “No, no, it’s nothing like that!” You reassure, shaking your head. You grab his hand, “I’m ready—more than ready! I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about when we... you know.”
- Bokuto looks at you with an oblivious expression. What? What are you saying? What did we....? He sat there and stupidly thought about it. You would have called him ding dong by now, but you’re too busy collecting your OWN thoughts. Thankfully, after a little time, he slowly started connecting the dots. A small smirk was formed on his face, “Oh, yeah? What about it?”
- “Uhm.....” Your heart beats a second too fast, “I... well..”
- You look at Bokuto in the eyes. Despite being a complete, clueless idiot, he still picked up on a lot of things by watching you. You’re nervous. That’s already out of the park. But he also sensed another emotion in side of you. He couldn’t figure it out since he doesn’t know what you’re going to say. But he knows it’s there! And he’s right. As much as you’re nervous, you’re also VERY excited to see his reaction. You take a few deep breaths and give him a soft smile. Adrenaline pumps through your veins as the words roll off your tongue.
- “I’m pregnant.” You whisper, taken aback by the statement yourself. An overwhelming smile takes over you.
- Bokuto looks at you. Looks at you with what? Happiness? Sorrow? Anger? Surprise? He isn’t mad, that’s for sure. Happiness? It’s questionable. He isn’t showing signs of ANY emotion. It’s a blank face. Blank canvas. If someone were to ask what a loading screen looks like, you’d use his face as an example. His mind came to a full hault with those two simple words. They’re just words, right? You start chuckling as he processed it. Even though it takes him forever to find the puzzle pieces, he started getting it the more you talked.
- “We’re gonna have a baby, Kou.” You hush. You feel if you say it any louder, it will ruin the moment. He blinks a few times, his mouth open and eyebrows raised. A slight, surprised smile shapes his open lips.
- “Wait.. wait a damn minute....” Bokuto looks at you with wide eyes, “Y/N, are you serious?”
- You can only nod, smiling widely and chuckling. Bokuto’s eyes sparkle so bright you almost had to look away. He’s not sad. He’s not mad, either. No. He’s happy. You could tell the moment he started talking. Your chest fills with warmth as you watched your future husband look at you with the biggest puppy eyes. Big, glossy, and happy eyes. You start tearing up from the overwhelming sensation of happiness.
- Bokutos hands plaster on his thighs, pushing him upward so he is out of his seat. There is no way he could sit still after receiving news THIS big, “PLEASE don’t tell me you’re messing with me.”
- You wipe a threatening tear from your eyes, shaking your head, “No, I’m not, Koutarou!”
- “No!” You laugh, his reactions are priceless, “Honey, I-I’m not lying!” More tears well in your eyes as you begin to feel emotional.
- The biggest smile forms on his face as the news settled in his mind. He’s gonna have a baby! A baby! That thought goes across his mind multiple times, his grin growing into a bigger one each time he thought it. Bokuto ran a hand through his hair, pacing around the room. Really, it‘s more like bouncing. He claps his hands, “WOOOOOO!” He whoops loudly, pumping his fist into the air. You laugh at his frantic dancing as he paced around the room like a child.
- Bokuto laughs in excitement. His eyes make eye contact with yours for only a second. Those pearls of his always shows his emotions by a landslide. You can see right through him when he’s lying or have other plans. And, right now, he has the biggest heart eyes you’ve ever seen. And it only took that one moment of eye contact for him to come rummageing forward. He kisses you silly. This is definitely the most passionate kiss you’ve gotten from Bokuto. Scratch that--it’s the most passionate kiss PERIOD.
- “I’m quitting volleyball, babe. I can’t leave you and the baby alone—“ Bokuto smiles as wide as he possibly could, his own eyes a little teary, “Oh my god, Y/N! I’m gonna be a dad! I’m gonna be a dad! I’m—I’m a dad!!”
- You giggle, your smile as wide as his by now. Yeah, he’s right. He’s going to be a father! And you are going to be a mother... you can’t even believe it yourself. Having a kid never really occured to you. It was never thought a whole lot your whole life. Yet, ever since you’ve met Bokuto, you thought about it more frequently. And the night he proposed... the whole night was really loving and caring. There was lust, of course, but the love that radiated from him was very apparent. It really makes you happy just by thinking back to it. Bokuto hugs you and engulfs you with his broad shoulders. He gives pepper kisses all around your cheeks and neck and shoulders. You hug back, your hand balling a fist full of his tshirt.
- Bokuto is the first to disconnect the hug. He looks at you in the eye, “How long have you...?”
- You didn’t need to know the rest of his question to answer, “Only a few days. I’ve been wanting to tell you but I couldn’t find the time.”
- Bokuto smiles endearingly, “Really? This was probably the most perfect time to tell me.” Bokuto smiles, radiating love energy. Your heart aches in the best way possible. You love him with all your heart and soul—you couldn’t have asked for a better man.
- You’re glad you get to spend the rest of your life with him.
