There comes a point in your life when you get tired of everything, about life in general. Nothing makes sense anymore and you don’t know what to do.
All my life I’ve wished for one thing. Peace. I wanted to be at peace. I’ve always been so busy trying to organize the mess that is my life. I’ve wished for a lot of things.
I wished for better days, where I can truly rest and appreciate the few things that could actually make me happy.
I wished that I’d been born in a different family. Perhaps I’d know what it feels to love. Maybe then, I’d learn what it means and I’d be able to trust and let others in my heart. I wanted to experience a lot and make many wonderful memories.
But I don’t have that. It’s just me trying to get through countless empty days.
And I’m so so tired.
I dreamed of traveling the world, having my own house and living alone in a place where I can be myself.
I’ve been moving from one place to another, but I have never felt content no matter where it is. I have never uttered the words “Home sweet home”. Where is home? Where do I even belong?
I went through a year of depression and never told anyone about it. During that time, I was all alone. I wanted to be, and I badly needed to ease some of the pain and so I tried to kill myself. Numerous attempts but I could never go through it. And all I got were scars. Every failed attempt would make me break down in tears. Why? Why can’t I do this? I’m tired. My body and my heart is tired. It feels like I’m choking every single day. I’d stay up late and I couldn’t accept that I was so weak, that I was so fucked up and so I found reasons to cry about. Books, movies, anything I could get my hands on. If it could distract me then it’s good. But writing, it was the one that helped me out the most. When my emotions were getting out of control, I’d go to my room and write.
And I would feel better.
Then I had to move back to one of the cities where I’ve lived in the past. I stayed with my father. I thought this time my life would improve. But I soon realized that that’s not going to happen. It became worse. My father, he was irresponsible. He would be home late at night or the next day, drunk. And he was abusive, verbally and physically. And now, I get easily startled, my heart would speed up and would tense up every time I hear someone older than me raise their voice. My desire to be independent grew stronger, I graduated in highschool as the top of the class and got two scholarships for college. I was happy, it was one step closer to achieving my goals.
First semester of freshman year ended and the second one came. We were barely getting by. I applied as a housemaid and I’d work 3 times a week to do their laundry and other tasks I’m asked to do. I had to juggle these with my studies since I’m taking up a degree in psychology. There were times that I wasn’t able to eat for almost two days that my hands & knees would start shaking and I had no energy left in me and I’d have trouble walking straight. How I managed to pass all my subjects still baffles me. Sophomore year was when the shittiest things happened . My arguments with my father got worse to the point that he hit me so many times that my face had bruises and wounds and my cheekbones and noseline were swollen. I never went to a doctor and it took almost 4 weeks to be fully healed. The next argument that we had ended up with him making my brother and I drop out from school. I was 17 and I couldn’t do anything.
And then I decided to move to another city and I took my brother with me.
I was so certain that this time would be different. A fresh start. Away from people who could hurt us.
But I should’ve known better. I had forgotten about my mother. She had always been unreliable and in my entire life I’ve only seen her about 4 times. And I never thought she’d get worse. Now we’re buried in debt and all she seems to be good at are lying, making up excuses and making promises she can’t keep. Sometimes I wonder whether she went to another country to provide for us or get away from the responsibility of raising two kids.
I’m supposed to be a 3rd year college student right now but I’m not. So many things have happened that weren’t part of the plan I had in my mind to achieve the life I’ve always wanted. And it’s a horrible feeling when you’re stuck in one place and you see the world moving around you. The people you know, even strangers continuing forward while you’re left behind, unable to move or make even a small single step.
AND I am writing this so I would remember just how far I’ve come, that I’ve survived those times even when it felt like hell at that moment. To keep me from falling to another depression because these past few months have been hard. And I don’t want to jerk awake and realize I’ve been dreaming of killing myself again and longing for death.
I have to remember that I have to hold on.
