AA Final Diversity
I put this together because the FIG likes to pretend that a 2-per-country format with 24 gymnasts is “more diverse.” Basically, with 24 finalists, it didn’t matter if you had two or three gymnasts per country…only 2 non-team countries would get spots in either format. But with 36 finalists and 3-per-country, all 12 teams would be represented in the individual final along with 7 gymnasts from non-team countries, AND the field would fully represent the best from qualifications, eg the true top 36, moving on. Your move, FIG.
24 Finalists, 2-Per-Country
Countries Represented: 14 Belgium (1), Brazil (2), Canada (2), China (2), France (2), Germany (2), Great Britain (1), Italy (2), Japan (2), Russia (2), Netherlands (2), Switzerland (1), USA (2), Venezuela (1)
Non-Team Countries Represented: 2 Switzerland (1), Venezuela (1)
24 Finalists, 3-Per-Country
Countries Represented: 13 Belgium (1), Brazil (3), Canada (2), China (2), France (1), Germany (1), Great Britain (1), Japan (3), Netherlands (2), Russia (3), Switzerland (1), USA (3), Venezuela (1)
Non-Team Countries Represented: 2 Switzerland (1), Venezuela (1)
36 Finalists, 3-Per-Country
Countries Represented: 19 Belgium (2), Brazil (3), Canada (2), China (2), France (2), Germany (2), Great Britain (2), Guatemala (1), Hungary (1), Italy (2), Japan (3), Mexico (1), Netherlands (3), Russia (3), Spain (1), Sweden (1), Switzerland (1), USA (3), Venezuela (1)
Non-Team Countries Represented: 7 Guatemala (1), Hungary (1), Mexico (1), Spain (1), Sweden (1), Switzerland (1), Venezuela (1)
Keep 2 per country but expand the AA back to 36. That’s going to give us the greatest diversity.
look at me the way aly looks at simone
The close up view of those leos makes me love the design even more.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Věra Čáslavská:
She won 11 Olympic medals, 7 of which are gold
She won 8 Olympic medals in individual event finals (the record)
She is the only gymnast to win Olympic gold on every apparatus
She scored two perfect 10’s at the 1967 European Championships
She won every single All-Around competition from 1964-68
Between 1964-68 she won 19 individual gold medals in major international competitions compared with 7 for all the Soviet female gymnasts during that time
She was the most decorated gymnast from the 1968 Olympics winning 4 golds and 2 silvers
She is one of two female gymnasts to win back to back Olympic All-Around golds
At the 1968 Olympics she famously protested the Soviet occupation of her country, Czechoslovakia, on the podium and as a result was forced to retire by the Soviet regime and was denied the majority of her rights upon returning home. Her protest is still considered one of the most iconic moments in Olympic history.
Čáslavská was a legendary gymnast, but she also sacrificed her career and much of her life for her country. Others may call Khorkina or Latynina the ‘Queen of Gymnastics’ but Čáslavská is more than a Queen, she is a hero.
RIP Vera!
Petition for the COP to allow a lunge step-out on each tumbling landing, and reward gymnasts who "stick" the landing (with no steps/lunge) with a bonus (0.1)
Sticking the landing is very hard on the knees/shins/ankles, so I don’t think we should make it commonplace to “stick” the landing. Rather, if gymnasts elect to do it or have enough control that they do stick it, the COP should reward them.
I think lunges look a lot more clean and tidy than hops/steps and I think the code should reflect that and reward gymnasts for choosing to make their landings neat and tidy
I’m all for bringing back the controlled lunge. The question is, will the judges properly deduct when it is obviously uncontrolled or a half assed step cover up?
Probs not, which means this would be another thing judges don’t deduct for.
Nastia vaulted a yurchenko 1.5 and literally had to cowboy her double front so much that it looked like she was in Gyno stirrups in order to get it around. But keep trying to shade Gabby and Simone. They’ll be laughing with their medals all the way to the bank. 🙃
#also gabby was literally one of the most balanced AAers
LOL seriously. Both Gabby and Simone were way more balanced with d scores of 6+ on every event.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimised by the Olympic Games
I was never the same after Daiane dos Santos flew OOB in Athens.
Same except it was with Aly Raisman in London in the AA touching that FUCKING BEAM
YOU COULD HAVE MEDALED ALY YYY
It’s interesting to look at these comments Pre Rio Olympics.. anyone care to update this post now.. I bet it’d be quite interesting.. ;~)
SIMONE FUCKING BILES AND HER FUCKING PUNCH FRONT.
After some thought.. I’ll say Vanessa Ferrari finishing Fourth on Floor in Event Finals.. I like Amy Tinkler but I guess bc of London and that she’s retiring.. it kinda gets to me a little..
I really don’t like Vanessa so I honestly wasn’t fussed over that result.
Komova taking steps after her all around vault, Cheng Fei in the 2008 EF’S
^still crying over cheng fei
Ferhat Arican missing pbars in qualifications
Kohei and Zhang Chenglong missing high bar in qualifications
Eythora and Sae missing floor in qualifications
Eythora qualifying to the AA in the 7th spot thus competing at the same time as Simone during the AA therefore no coverage of her
Sam Mikulak
Manrique Larduet
Seda on beam and floor during the AA
Songsong not getting an individual medal
David’s massive lunge on his rings dismount that cost him an AA medal (or his form break on pommel horse, either one would’ve done it. ugh)
Nikita having a minor meltdown in qualifying, including missing floor
Kenzo and Kohei making mistakes in floor finals that cost them medals
John Orozco not even making it to Rio :(
Asuka missing beam in qf
CANADA MISSING QUALIFYING FOR THE TEAM FINAL BY 0.2
Anytime the American men are in a team competition

ALSO NBC CAN EAT A BAG OF DICKS FOR OFFERING 576P30 FPS STREAMS WHEN BBC IS 720P50FPS AND CBC IS 720P (OR WAS IT 1080P) 60FPS
Shang Chunsong finishing fourth in the AA. Yeah I said it!
The case of the non-existent acro series.

It has been a minute and I’m still so damn proud of Aly.
The Gebeshian
Submitted by: Houry Gebeshian, Armenia
Apparatus: Uneven Bars
Element description: A hecht mount with a 360 degree turn with repulsion off the low bar to the high bar.
Element value: D
Note: Gebeshian is Armenia’s first ever female gymnast to compete at an Olympic Games. [x]
This makes me so happy :)
how would one go about learning this skill because this looks FUN
First ever female Armenian gymnast and she competes her best when it mattered most! New element named after her and a personal best All Around score in the qualifiers.
Don’t forget the cute gifs of her kissing every apparatus!
I quite enjoy the media trained US team. You never have to worry about someone saying something racist or defamatory.
I love this!
Chellsieeee
when u hear martha is retired
oh my god.
Routines That Weren’t Aired on NBC, But Should’ve Been
Tutya Yilmaz- Turkey- Balance Beam
Score: 14.5- 8.2/6.3
2016 Rio Olympics- Qualifications
This makes me a little mad because judges really put the pen down to paper on her form breaks and flexed feet on some of those skills. I always hate to be the one to toot on the old horn but no one from the Big Four would have scored less than 8.5 for a routine this solid. The only kinda sorta large deduction should have been the deep landing, but still, man.
I really wish she had made the final cos that routine is amazing and it’s so refreshing seeing a gymnast from a lesser country really attacking the beam & nailing it!
This routine was fantastic! And don’t forget she had an extremely long wait before getting on the beam!

Simone Biles becomes the first American female gymnast to win four golds at a single Olympic games.
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles just made history — the 19-year-old star clinched her fourth gold medal of the Rio Olympic Games on Tuesday after placing first in the floor exercise, making her the the first American woman gymnast to win four golds at a single Olympic games.
Biles has won a total of five medals in Rio: four gold and one bronze. Biles nailed her famous move, “the Biles,” during Tuesday’s floor exercise event and earned an unbelievable score.
follow @the-movemnt
If anyone ever criticizes Simone’s leaps again I’m gonna direct them to this performance because they were divine here. Best Gogean I’ve sever seen, even better than Sacramone’s.
Isn’t she the first American gymnast to win 4 golds in one games PERIOD? I’m pretty sure the Men haven’t done such a thing...
