FranzFeb, Week 1: Favorite Album(s)
Why this beauty, of course:
If she has no defenders I'm dead, etc., etc..
Memes aside, lol, Franz' work is remarkably consistent and while all their albums have great material, but there's just something special about Tonight. It comes together as a single cohesive unit in a way that their other records just don't quite hit. Plus, I have so many good memories attached to it and this era, so it really means a lot to me.
Also, Band Commentary Tracks my beloved.
Runners-Up:
As I said, Franz is crazy consistent, so the gulf's between their albums (to the extent they exist for me) are fairly small. With that in mind, I gotta give a couple other records their due.
RTRWRA contains nothing but bangers* and is one of the most listenable (for lack of a better term) albums I've come across. No skips and such a breeze to play front to back, over and over. In fact, I've listened to it so much without realizing that it'd be my second most played album on Last.fm (behind Tonight, of course) were it not for Spotify's fuck-ass tagging. But, alas.
Yes, technically, FFS is its own, separate thing, but fuck it, I'll take any opportunity I can to give it love because it is criminally underrated. Like that groove on "So Desu Ne" is filthier than it has any right to be, what do you mean it's a just deep cut and not some massive hit single? Preposterous! Bonkers! Also, bonkers? The fact that this record is nearly eleven years old. What the hell is time anymore?
Oh! Also! Honorable mention to the mythical, hypothetical B-side compilation that will allegedly one day exist. There's so many gems among their B-sides that I could see such a thing ranking pretty high with me.
