TLDWTR; I’m sad nobody cared about my birthday.
Whining below:
Haven’t been active in a long time but I honestly don’t even know where else to post this because nobody I know has me on here. My birthday was yesterday and it came and went like any other day. People texted the words ‘happy birthday’ but nobody actually seemed to care whether I had one or not. I asked to spend time with people and was told that they were either working or spending time with other people. Which I wouldn’t mind if that wasn’t where the conversation stops. There was no “I’m sorry, I’m busy on the actual day but we should do something fun to celebrate later in the week!” No “Hey I know I couldn’t make it, but tell me about your day, update me on what you’re doing” Not a single ‘happy birthday’ came with a follow up or genuine care or even a meaningful word or picture. No “do you remember this” or anything at all. Something similar happened last year, only I did manage to do something at least toward the end of the night. I’d told everyone that my birthday hadn’t been good, and it was brushed off. I talked about it leading up to my birthday this year, and was told people wanted to do things with me, only to give a half ass “oof I’m working” the night before when I try to confirm. And maybe I could’ve planned and paid for an entire party myself, personally set the calendars in everyone’s phones, and reminded them every day for weeks leading up to it. But I didn’t want to. I wanted to be cared about without having to make it easy for someone, or doing everything myself. Just once I wanted someone to take it upon themselves to make sure I was happy, and no one did. A big part of me wants to say something, but again, I don’t want to force people to care, I just wish they did on their own. I also am not the type of person to make vague posts or any posts really, and I find the idea of making a scene over being lonely to be kinda… humiliating? I don’t want to debase myself to guilt someone into being there for me. I just feel like now that things are harder, people are deciding I’m not worth the effort. But they still constantly talk about how I’m always there for them, lift them up when they’re down, etc. They can recognize what they get from me, but not that the person they’re getting it from is worth a damn.
