I keep wanting to post about femmes not having to be hyperfeminine but it might be a “wrong messenger” situation lol

like I keep seeing “I’m not masc or fem I’m more like This” and it’s a collage or edit of quite feminine women/characters that are maybe edgy, alternative, or outspoken. none of these things are even unfeminine?? look at pictures of self-identified femmes from the 80s or 90s, they are not necessarily hyperfeminine or traditionally feminine. because femme as a lesbian label isn’t about being as feminine as possible 😭

but tbh it’s also because butch/masc/fem(me) are being buzzword-ed and aesthetic board-ed to hell and back… and young people want to feel a sense of belonging to a certain label or community. I just wish I could show all these young (I assume) lesbians some older lesbian literature and photography, they would see femmes with shaved heads, body hair, etc

We want Flawed Female Characters! No, not THOSE flaws. 😕 Those aren't sexy, COOL flaws. You know, the ones that I don't think actually SHOULD be considered flaws, that I might even feel personally judged for. The "unjustly martyred by the court of public opinion" kind of flaws. So like a "flawed" woman who's actually kind of a Saint in a way. I didn't want, like, FLAW flaws. What she did was WRONG and that makes her a BAD PERSON, and how can you justify that? If you still like her after what she did, that makes YOU a Bad Person too. Ugh, disgusting. 😕 But anyway, WHY isn't anyone writing flawed female characters?

not sure if this counts as a straight answer but imagine a local band asks you last-minute to join as their bassist. they’re all kinda fucked up emotionally, because their former bassist suddenly left to become a pop star. but especially the vocalist. You get to know them all, especially the vocalist, who has pretty severe abandonment issues, only exacerbated by this event. vocalist clearly had complex feelings for former bassist, and seems resigned to hate her but can’t actually manage to do it. She never fully gets over it. 6 years later, vocalist reveals she has reconnected with former bassist and is having some sort of bizarre affair with her. Because of former bassist’s former betrayal and how much shit vocalist has talked about her, you’re predisposed to not trust her, and to be scared that this is going to turn sour. your suspicions are confirmed when former bassist hurts vocalist’s feelings and she relapses on coke. A few days later they are dating and your friend, prone to mood swings, is elated. A few weeks after that she wants former bassist to rejoin the band as a guitarist

more and more I’m seeing the sentiment “why would you write about (fictional character) in pain and at their lowest point???” and it shows such a fundamental misunderstanding of fiction, like as a concept

tomodachi life should have a morality slider in character creation. so you can create characters who are jerks, to create more friction and have more interesting interactions. and if they meet the right person, an evil person can have a change of heart, or a good person can be corrupted to the side of evil

something I’ve noticed in fandoms lately is a lack of… object permanence? perspective? Just reacting to each episode/chapter of something as if it’s final & whatever plot line they dislike is the status quo forever? like…… have a tiny bit of patience

I kinda understand because a lot of franchises lately have ended in shoddy and poorly thought out ways, but tbh either have some faith in your fav show or just write fanfic
