An open collection prompt fest that focuses on Teen Wolf AUs. It will run over the course of five weeks, starting in May. FAQs and Rules AO3 Collection
Teen Wolf AU Fest is an open collection prompt fest that will take place over five weeks, starting in the first week of May.
This fest will be similar to fests like Flufftober or Kinktober in that anyone can participate as little or as much as they want. Instead of daily prompts, however, there will be two weekly prompts to choose from. For 2024, these prompts will be beings and places. We're also introducing bonus prompts for genre.
FAQ
This is a low-key, participate as-you-wish fest. You can create something for all five weeks or just for one.
The prompts will be posted weekly through the Tumblr fest blog (@twaufest). At least one of the weekly prompts should be incorporated in the work.
There will be two prompts per week. You can use one or both of them. There will also be a bonus genre prompt, if you wish to also include that.
You can create one work using just one of the weekly prompts, or create one work with both prompts, or create two works using one prompts for each work.
All ships are welcome (or lack thereof).
All types of transformative fanworks are welcome.
Your work can be shared in the AO3 collection (twaufest24) and/or on Tumblr by tagging @twaufest.
Rules
AU works only. Since this is an AU fest, all works must be AUs. They can be human-AUs, supernatural AUs, or any other type of AU. But they cannot be fully canon or just canon divergent.
Tag your works. Fics must be tagged appropriately. Please tag for major content warnings and other common warnings/triggers.
At least one of the weekly prompts must be used in your work for that week.
Late submissions are accepted while the fest is ongoing. The collection will close a week or two after the fest is over for the year. If I run this fest again next year, Iâll reopen the collection at that time.
If you are participating as a reader, please practice good fandom etiquette. If you donât like a work or a particular ship, donât read it or use the back button. All TW ships and all types of transformative fandom works are welcome.

Week 3: Garden Gnomes
Summary: Stiles just wants to enjoy his backyard in peace. His new neighbor seems hell-bent on ruining thatâmostly with his creepy taste in garden decor.

Read a preview below the cut!
âStop being a stalker and leave your new neighbor alone.â
âIâm not being a stalker! Iâm in my own house; I canât be a stalker from inside my living room.â Stiles puts his phone on speaker and balances it on the window ledge so that he can more easily pull down just a single blind. âI just donât get it. It doesnât make sense.â
Stiles hears the clanking of a cage opening and mewing sounds as Scott huffs on the other end of the line. âGardening is a perfectly normal hobby.â
âItâs not the gardeningâitâs the gnomes! They are creepy!â
âTheyâre cute.â
âThey are not cute. They are weird little demon statues waiting to take your soul.â
Scott sighs. âYou really should lay off the b-horror movies. A couple of months ago, you were convinced that werewolves were surrounding your house.â
The blind snaps back into place as Stiles releases it to pick up his phone and glare at it. âIn my defense, there were glowing eyes just past the fence line.â
âYes, that family of raccoons was very scary.â Scott doesnât even sound mocking. He sounds like heâs placating a small child.
Stiles sets the phone back down and carefully pulls the single blind back down. His eyes narrow as they land on two garden gnomes stare back at him from the other side of the chain-link fence. He wonders how long it would take tall shrubs to grow if he planted them along his side of the fence. They wouldnât help with the view from his upstairs bedroom window, but then he wouldnât have to see the creepy gnomes from his kitchen, living room, and backyard. Of course, then he also wouldnât get to see his very attractive neighbor doing all that sweaty landscape work either. It really is a no win situation.
âIt just doesnât make sense. He barely says âhi.â Heâs always glaring and broody and is in a perpetual bad mood. Shouldnât he have⌠I donât know⌠like angry garden decorations?â
âAngry garden decorations?â Scottâs voice sounds further away, and thereâs more kitten mewing. Stiles wonders briefly if thereâs another abandoned litter he can come cuddle soon, but he refocuses. He needs validation, damn it!
Stiles huffs loudly. âI donât knowâwhatever garden decorations dark broody people have! Probably none. That would be more normal, right? It should be, like, plain and boring to go with his resting murder face! Ughâheâs the worst.â
âIs this because he doesnât talk to you?â
âNo.â Stiles glares at the garden through the small slit.
Scott sighs again.
âIt wasnât like I was talking to him all the time! I was just trying to introduce myself. Be a good, friendly neighbor! Whatever. Itâs fineâI get it. Heâs all Adonis levels of hot, and probably has all hot, cool friends, and doesnât need to be friendly with his dorky neighbor. And itâs great, really. I can go outside and have some peace and quiet without someone constantly trying to talk to me about their roses. He can do his thing and I can do my thing.â
His neighborâs house sits around the patio and garden in an L-shape, so that the patio partially faces Stilesâs property. With his last neighbor, the layout was the source of much annoyance. Mrs. Milpeper insisted on talking to him every time he was in his own backyard, acting like it was just an extension of her own space. Even if he had friends over or was on the phone (and once on a work Zoom call), sheâd start up a conversation with Stiles. She was a nice lady, but Stiles really didnât want to have to talk to her every time he went outside in his own backyard. Sheâd even wave to him when sheâd catch sight of him in his kitchen or living room windows.
Then the new guy moved in and Stiles spent a good few days thrilled at the garden layout, especially when he realized that Derek liked to work on his yard shirtless. Stiles finally mustered up the courage to go over to the fence line to introduce himself, but all he got was a muttered name, Derek, a quick nod, and a look that could curdle milk before the man went right back to shoveling a large hole that later turned out to be for a Japanese Maple. Stiles hovered at the fence line, his face heating up before awkwardly turning and going back into his house. Heâs been avoiding his backyard since.
âPlus, thatâs not even the issue. Itâs not about him not talking to me. Itâs about the gnomes! Serial killers shouldnât have flowery backyards with happy creepy garden gnomes. They should have bare patches of grass, and, like dubious-looking sheds and shit. And maybe a door that looks like it goes to an underground bunker.â
âLet me see if Iâve got this straightâŚâ Thereâs some shuffling and then the whine and clash of a metal crate shutting. âYou would be okay if your new âserial killer neighborâââ The sarcasm is loud and clear. ââput a shed and an entrance to a bunker in his backyard, but because heâs planting flowers and putting out garden gnomes, youâre suspicious?â
âCreepy garden gnomes,â Stiles corrects.
âSure.â
âWhatever.â
âIf they bother you that much, get a privacy fence.â
âThose are expensive. I looked into those after Mrs. Milpeper interupted my one and only date in the last year, remember?â
Scott makes a sound that Stiles interprets as heâs either lost interest in the conversation or has moved onto a more difficult task with an animal. Stiles should probably let him go so that he can do whatever vets do all day.
He stares for another minute at the stupid gnome faces with their stupid grins. âI should just turn them around. Maybe he wouldnât notice.â
âStiles. Do not go into your neighborâs yard.â
âTheyâre probably sentient anyways. Maybe heâll think they moved on their own.â
âIf they are sentient wouldnât that be a good reason to not touch them?â
âUgh. Fine. I should probably let you go anyway.â
âSure,â Scott chuckles. âGood talk.â
âWhatever, man. Iâll see you Saturday. You know, unless Iâm killed by sentient evil gnomes before then.â
âSee you Saturday, Stiles.â
Stiles doesnât move to hang up, letting Scott end the call. He stares at the gnomes for another minute and then finally releases the blind. It snaps into place with a click as he grabs his phone and heads over to the sofa. With a sign, he plops down on it and grabs the remote. After a minute of flipping through the horror options in his queue, he settles for one about a giant lizard paralyzing people in a small town. Itâs still less creepy than those stupid gnomes.
