i think taylor swift wishes she was bisexual because she knows it would make her slightly more money. whereas sabrina carpenter wishes she was bisexual so she could have sex with someone who looks exactly like herself. and ariana grande wishes she was bisexual because she did too many designer drugs on the set of wicked and now she has kin memories of being glinda for real
a fun fact i can post now: the glasgow subway ticket machines have had a little sticker added to them that says they don't accept the new king charles bank notes and if you have those you have to go to the counter to use them. i assume the keyword here is new and this is because the image-recognition of the cash machine can't for whatever reason be quickly updated to accept novel currency as legitimate. but frankly it's more fun to imagine the machines have refused to accept the transfer of power and are just straight up committing treason on purpose.
I know this is going to be another “man discovers self care” post, but lotion? It’s really fucking good you guys. Especially on toast.

Some D&D party is out there playing the coolest campaign ever.
I saw this when it was posted! Some highlights from the comments:
I think the funniest dynamic for arranged-marriage royalty would be a queen who came here 100% prepared to murder her future husband and rule as a widow queen in her own right, only to discover that the king is autistic as hell and responds to her wish to rule with "oh thank god please do, I don't want to be bothered by these people. I can just tell them to go bother you instead, if you really want that. I've got beetles I wanted to study."
"I'm really not good at it," the king admits with horrible, aching grief. The country is in disarray. Peasants go hungry. Nobles trade power amongst themselves with impunity.
So the queen takes over and ruthlessly sets things to rights. Fires several generals, hangs nobles, redirects wealth to the peasantry. It isn't long before the first assassination attempt, which she expected.
She did not expect her docile, beetle-obsessed husband to go absolutely feral and fling himself at the assassins wielding a pair of sharp knives.
Also, the beetles are intended to attack and kill a certain type of invasive worm that has been killing off the gourd and potato crops for decades. He’s been trying since he was a child to crossbreed several native species to be hardier and better diggers. When he finally gets it right it’s all over for you bitches (“you bitches” being mass starvation of subsistence farmers).
Mad Scientist and the Head of HR ass dynamic
It’s wild seeing people go “okay it’s clearly Stockholm syndrome” to freed hostages thanking Hamas, saying goodbye and smiling/waving to Hamas as the IOF takes them and then also Israel keeping hostages under tight media supervision and advising them not to speak on their experiences when in actuality what probably happened was during this time the captives learned closely the the propaganda of their government that paints Hamas and Palestinians more broadly as monsterous subhumans wasn’t true. You can’t deny that hostages have consistently reported they were treated well and that the real fear was from the constant bombardments.
Comparing that with Palestinian captives being released after years of torture and abuse, some unable to even recognize their families, mothers crying over the lost years with their children, all of them detailing the horrors they face AND the fact that israel is keeping the bodies of those who died during imprisonment to finish out their sentence, them telling release children that they will be back, banning celebrations and expressions of joy in public at the release of captives as “supporting terrorists”
Idk just the more you see the more warped everything is.
"Stockholm Syndrome" was invented when a hostage complained that the police kept doing reckless things that endangered her life so the hostage-taker kept protecting her from the cops.
She was fully aware he was only protecting her because she was useful as a bargaining chip, however the fact remains the cops were the only danger to her life during the hostage situation. Rather than admit this the cops had someone make up a diagnosis as part of a smear campaign.
So the hostages that have been protected by Hamas while Israel dropped countless bombs in an attempt to kill them do in fact have a connection to Stockholm syndrome.
This is the funniest thing I've ever read. I would have LOVED to see that

the problem with autism is sometimes you want to do something (brave) but you need someone to gently walk you through each step so you know what will happen. and people don’t like doing that

Y'all ever open a book on a new subject, read a little bit, and have to put it back so you can process the way in which your mind was just expanded?
The textile book: okay here is some of the ways that textiles are important to human life
me: Okay!
The textile book: Clothes separate the vulnerable human body from the conditions of the outside world, and in doing so absorb the sweat and debris of human existence, accumulating wear and tear according to the lives we live. In this way, various lifestyles and professions are represented by clothing, and the clothing of a loved one retains the imprint of their physical body and their life being lived, as though the clothes absorb part of the wearer's soul
Me: ...oh
The textile book: The process of weaving a garment and the process of a child being formed in its mother's womb are often referred to using the same language. Likewise, when a baby is born, a blanket or other textile material is the first material object it encounters and protects it. Textiles can create the idea of two things being inextricable, as with being "woven together," or can create the sense of separateness, as with a curtain or veil that separates two rooms or spaces, even separating the living from the dead, or separating two realities, such as a performance ending when the curtain falls
Me: ...oh God
The textile book: Odysseus's wife Penelope undid her weaving in secret every night to delay the advances of her suitors. In this way she was able to turn back the passage of time to allow her husband to come home. Likewise the Lakota tell a story of an old woman embroidering time by embroidering a robe with porcupine quills. If she finishes the embroidery, the world will come to an end, but her faithful dog pulls out the quills whenever her back is turned, turning back the clock and allowing existence to continue.
me: ...is...is...is that why we refer to the fabric of space and time?
The textile book: The technological revolution of textile making is sadly underappreciated. The textile arts are possibly the most fundamental human technology, as once people created string and rope, they could create nets for catching fish and small animals, and bags and baskets for carrying food. In the earliest prehistoric times, the first string or cord perhaps came from sinew, found in the body of an animal. Because of this perhaps the body of a living being could be understood as made of a textile material. Indeed textiles have the function of preserving life, as with a surgeon stitching back together the human body or bandages being placed on a wound. Textile technologies are being used to create life-changing implants to restore function to injured parts of the body, as though a muscle or tendon can be woven and made in this way. Cloth can be used to create a parachute that will save a human's life as they plummet out of the sky. Ultimately, the textile technologies are used to enter new parts of the universe. Here's the full article for those interested. I highly recommend the whole thing, and all of the work LitHub has published on Palestine. They're one of the big literary orgs (along with Electric Lit, Kundiman, Mizna, and Academy of American Poets, to name a few) that has truly stepped up to center issues and writers based in Palestine.
