Cant reblog this enough
I love that this shows both sides, how society is ingrained to see women as baby-makers and men as walking wallets who’s only worth is if they make good cash. Both are equally demeaning and limiting in different ways.
Sorry but am I the only one SOBBING after Louis' interview???? So much of it just hurt my heart but a lot of it just made me even prouder and jfc I have too many emotions rn pls tell me I'm not alone
…I mean…I liked the pictures?
I’ve been thinkin about this a lot. So I’m going to elaborate.
When it comes to just about anything to do with Louis this is 100% me
And while there were definitely parts of the interview that had me wanting to cry in a very not so cool way, a lot of it just didn’t quite sit well with me. I’m not surprised with how they’re marketing Louis, since this is the same incompetent “team” that’s been behind his PR for years, but the content of the interview just had me like
Let’s focus on the positive for a moment…he looks incredible.
Like
But then as you start to add headlines to these photos it’s gets a bit…eh
Louis is so incredibly talented as both a a singer and songwriter and this narrative is disappointing because when you’re trying to launch someone’s solo SINGING career, exactly what good does it do to begin a headline with “Not the best singer”?
Which is why when people praise this article saying how great it is I’m like
There are certainly very honest and raw moments in this article, and I do think it was well written. The parts of actual dialogue are gripping, but the way in which they’re framed sells Louis short in my opinion. I can’t sit here and say, “Wow this part was great and I’m just going to ignore all the other bits that kind of stuck out as odd to me.”
They are using the same, and I mean the EXACT same, marketing tactics that they used with One Direction.
They’ve always tried to sell him as this working class Donny lad figure, which I’m pretty sure is why his relationship with Jamie Vardy has been so heavily publicised (aside from the rumours that he’ll play him in the biopic), but they’ve really made it sound like if he hadn’t made it into One Direction that he’d be mining coal somewhere right now…
And as ever, his image is tightly wound around a heterosexual “he’s taken” narrative.
The difference between the use of “girlfriend” and “partner” is significant in that it implies permanence and adding fatherhood to that really shows how aggressively they’re veering away from targeting a young female audience demographic in terms of traditional marketing. They managed to put all that information into this article without any actual words from Louis.
The unfortunate thing about this article, is that the two things Louis actually talked about the least are now becoming the focal point of the narrative.
Like, okay. We get it. He is doing the sex with the women. And all these seemingly random pap shots and snapchat cameos are suddenly coming out of the woodwork and they still can’t get a new quote about it…
What concerns me is that they’ve used their first opportunity to market Louis’ solo career this way. The end of the article is oddly dark and unsettling…
What the hell even was that? Like a pat on the back and a “Good luck kid,” as he chain smokes into the sunset? The vibe was very
And yeah, there have been some aggressive injustices in Louis’ life, no one should have to lose their mother that young and that suddenly, and I thought that part of the article was extremely well handled and verbalised. But, as someone who has appreciated Louis’ talent for years now, this article really didn’t have to make his insecurities the focal point. He didn’t have to diminish his existing collaborations by saying that he couldn’t get “big names” in the studio with him, therefore now isolating himself from pretty much everyone in the music industry. And the fact Simon Cowell got a nod in the article was like, “Hi! I’m a red flag!”
Like, Jesus Christ, he was put in a boy band, not sent to war. And if you’re telling me that Simon Cowell can’t pick up the phone and get big name writers into a room with Louis Tomlinson then I don’t know what to say. What bothers me the most is that this entire article sounds like a regurgitated speech from Simon Cowell that he probably used to manipulate Louis over the past five years. Despite his HUGE fan base, which has made him the most engaged with celebrity on Instagram, someone is still telling Louis he isn’t a frontman, when he has a global audience telling him the exact opposite. This article makes it sound like Syco is taking some kind of chance on one of the most successful musicians of the last decade. Louis wrote more of One Direction’s songs than any other member and there’s absolutely no reason to make his debut album sound more dramatic than Dunkirk. Like, “In a world where no one believed in him…Louis Tomlinson had to learn to believe in himself…COMING SUMMER 2017!”
Ugh. It just…
Anyway, I’m crying in a cool way over how gorgeous Louis looks here as a dramatic cat lady.
And now it’s time to sashay away. Thanks for listening!
“…And then there’s me.” I asked his fans to describe Louis in one word, here’s the result. (some words are repetitive because I put every word that people used to describe him, the repetitive ones are by different people mentioned again +click to enlarge)
You’ll always be missed 👼🏼💔 #RIPJohanna #RIPRobin

So proud of my mother for doing her own research after I sent her that meme. A sign she hung in her car window.
Stay woke
Is this true?
Not only is it true, it gets worse. The Susan G Komen For The Cure Foundation has actually successfully sued “competing” charities, because (paraphrasing) their “message or branding was infringing.”
You read that correctly: they took money that people had donated to cure cancer, and hired attorneys with it, to sue ANOTHER group of people trying to find a cure for cancer, who, in turn, had to us their donated money to hire their own legal counsel to defend themselves.
Yeah signal boost because not enough people know about this and seriously FUCK SUSAN G. KOMEN THEY ARE THE ACTUAL WORST

Komen For The Cure is pretty much awful.
My mother died in 1996 from breast cancer. Most cancer charities are scams, in that people throw fancy parties and get rich off them and very little money goes into research or support for patients. Here are some vetted cancer charities that get good scores on Charity Navigator and pay medical expenses or fund research:

Philadelphia’s new pride flag honors LGBTQ people of color

Honestly I think this is awesome, symbols should be as dynamic as the needs of our communities, we should not be afraid to change them whenever we feel it is needed.
And while this is symbolic and doesn’t immediately translate to real change, the messages it sends, both “POC are Here” and “Racists not welcome” are important.
All the white people flipping out about this because they think it’s not beautiful or not traditional or not a rainbow as it appears in nature are showing how used they are to a sheltered condition of not having to seriously consider the needs of people of color, because they think an esthetic matters more than the question of whether this is an effective way to adress a real issue. How did we get to a point where that level of apathy is normal?
So I support this. Heck, I’d support it if we wrote ‘RACISTS FUCK OFF’ in large print on every single pride flag until the day when we didn’t have a single racist left in our communities. That would be worth changing all our symbols for.
An important thread on Obstruction of Justice
There you go. This was the best summary for those that couldn’t or didn’t follow our live tweets and posts. THIS is what happened in the James Comey Testimony.
Something I’ve been wanting to explore for a while now - The differences between the UK and US education systems. (Spurred by one of my friend’s claiming America has it harder, and the decision to explore this fact. Basically, it’s a bit of a rant.)
I think the main assumption that U.S. exams are difficult is the fact that you need to get 97-98% on exams to get an A+, whereas A* in England require 90%. Coupled with the fact that A’s in the US are 90-92% upwards, whereas in England you only need 80%, at first glance it could be seen that American exams are harder.
But the main difference isn’t the mark schemes. It’s the way exams are held. As far as research shows me, American grades go towards your GPA, from 0.00 to 4.00 (5.00 in some states). The exams you take, accumulating over middle school and high school go towards your final grades when you graduate high school or apply for college.
These exams are based on school terms / semesters, and are accumulative. And, if my research is right, students in the U.S have the capability of retaking tests if they don’t do well.
Apparently Americans study 6-8 subjects and each exam is an hour, with half of the exam being multiple choice and the other being a written essay.
However, in England, our exams take place at the end of our courses. GCSE’s from ages 14-16, and A-levels from 16-18. We start our two year course and take all of our exams at the end of it: There’s usually 2-3 exams per subject.
During GCSE’s, I personally took 9 subjects, with a total of 22 exams at the end of my course over June and July. The average exam is 90 minutes, so I had on average 33 hours of exams for GCSE’s on a whole. (That’s excluding the 18-hour drama exam I had to take).
People in UK don’t get to retake GCSE exams - the only retakes schools push for are those who get below a C in English or Mathematics - and they don’t get to retake A-level exams anymore.
At A-levels in the U.K, you typically study 3-4 subjects, in depth with a range of sub-groups. Personally I’m studying, Sociology / Psychology / English Literature and Language, each forcing me into 3 exams. That’s 18 hours of exams over a 3 week time period.
Okay Mint, you say, where are you going with this.
Give me a moment, I have a point.
In my psychology course, I have to learn 11 topics in depth. In just one topic, it’s necessary to be able to recall over 20 names, each with specific studies and specific evaluation. That’s 220 names for just PSYCHOLOGY.
Sociology, luckily, only has 5 topics. Sadly, you need about 50-60 names /studies/evaluation for 4 of those topics specifically, and you need to have about 40 extra names and studies to evaluation any question with. That’s an additional 240-280 names.
That’s up to 500 names that are necessary to remember to pass the course. All that need to be remembered over a 3 week exam period. All that are required to get marks. No multiple choice questions - well, maybe 6 multiple choice questions in all of psychology - because everything is essay based over here.
And then, to top it off, most of the English exams over here are closed book, meaning I have to be able to quote by memory and then analyse these quotes. Cramming, is practically impossible - they got rid of yearly exams three years ago, meaning retakes in second year of A-levels is impossible.
And universities don’t give concrete places. They give offers and if you don’t get the grades they say they’ll take you for, then oops you’ve got to go through clearing.
There’s a point to all this knowledge other than complaining about the exams I’m currently suffering through. It’s the place a point to the percentages necessary for grades that I pointed out earlier.
The grade boundaries are lower in the U.K because retakes are unheard of. Since we need to remember so much, need to recall over 500 names / 4 books / 50 poems, the grade boundaries give a little leeway for it’s students. If you make the percentages too high, then only two or three people would ever pass.
The grade boundaries in the U.S. then, are higher, since everything is on an accumulative scale. You give in essays and take tests that go towards a final GPA. Retakes are possible if necessary. Grade boundaries are higher since you study for one test per subject at a time.
Listen - I’m not saying either system is harder. (Although, if I’ve got you thinking one way or the other, that’s okay. I’ve got my own personal view on this that I’m not gonna go into right now).
I’m saying both systems are COMPLETELY different. It’s impossible to say that one is more difficult than the other without having studied both. U.S has higher grade boundaries, but that doesn’t mean that those getting those grades are any smarter than those studying in the U.K.
Let’s just say that both systems suck. And that we’re all suffering.
(Also, I’m not sure about America, but in the U.K, a lot of people say that A-levels are actually harder than the degrees we go into. Mostly because it’s all at the end of 2 years, whereas universities test after every term.)
If I’ve gotten anything about the U.S education system wrong, please tell me and I’ll adjust it! And what’s everyone else’s experience with the schooling system. Do you think you have it easier or harder?
Political Post - UK
The UK General Elections are tomorrow, and I just wanted to say something. Having Theresa May as PM will be terrifying and potentially ruin the country.
Let me make a few points, in no particular order.
1) She wants to abolish the Human Rights Act to ‘better combat terrorism’.
Implication here is that she’s willing to torture to get want she wants. Torture does not work. People get tortured because you believe they have useful information. You won’t believe them if they truthfully don’t know. They will eventually tell you exactly what you want to hear, even if it’s false, just so you’ll stop. Even it doesn’t lead to torture, anyone could be arrested and held indefinitely without ever receiving a trial. It may initially get used for terrorists or terrorist suspects, but how long until it’s used on ‘suspected sympathisers’ who may happen to live on the same street as a terror suspects. Then how long until it’s ends up used on anyone who’s against the party in power? All protesters, even peaceful ones, could end up arrested and locked up for life without receiving a trial.
2) She says Britain and its police force is not prepared to combat terrorism.
Before David Cameron resigned, Theresa May was the Home Secretary, and had been for the entirety of the Conservative Government. It was her job to make sure Britain was prepared for terrorist attacks and to prevent them happening. She basically got rid of, I believe, 10,000 officers and cut the funding to the police. How can the police effectively combat anything when they physically don’t have the officers to do it?
3) She wants the Government to be able to monitor everything everyone does online ‘to prevent terrorist attacks’
For this to happen, she’d have to go all-in. She can’t just pick and choose. She wants to get rid of all cryptography on the internet, so those who bank online, your information is now vulnerable and up for grabs to anyone who wants it. All websites would have to be authorised by the UK Government, so no Youtube, or Netflix or Dailymotion, etc. Also any website criticising the government or the Conservative party would be instantly closed down. All technology would have to be approved by the UK Government, so nothing could be bought or developed abroad, all foreign visitors would have to surrender their smart phones, tablets, etc., upon entry. She wants companies like Whatsapp and Facebook to create back-doors to allow the Government to see what people are doing. If the way exists, it will only be a matter of time until criminals find a way to use them and cryptography’s gone so once they’re in, there’s nothing to stop them. Say goodbye to any privacy on Whatsapp, or Facebook, or forums, or chatrooms, or Tumblr, or even games like World of Warcraft where even if you could still play, you wouldn’t be able to play with someone who’s not in the UK.
4) Funding to schools will be cut.
The amount of funding schools receive will be cut by hundreds of pounds per pupil. Teachers are overworked as it is. More teachers will quit as rising living costs, and slow salary growth for most of the general population, will make it too hard to make a living as a teacher. Schools themselves will have less money to spend on hiring and paying teachers. The quality of children’s education will drop as there’ll be less teachers available, and all of those will have to work even longer hours. They claim there will be a £4 billion fund for schools to draw from to counteract the hit from the cuts. In that case, why make the cuts in the first place, if you’re just going to provide a relief fund anyway? Also, this £4 billion will only be raised by making cuts elsewhere suchs as in NHS funding.
I don’t know if any of the people who read this post are able to vote in the UK general election, but if you are, I ask that you vote for any other party. Vote for Labour, SNP, Plaid Cymru, whoever, I don’t care, just please do not vote Conservative.
‘What has the European Convention on Human Rights ever done for us?’
