i think the mcyt fandom needs to unlearn this habit they’ve picked up of engaging uncritically with any accusation thread regardless of source

because it ends up with a lot of people equating grooming with any inappropriate behavior and discrediting anyone who points out issues in the thread’s story or source which is just dangerous for everyone involved, to be honest

there’s a new dream thread going around and i don’t want to disregard op at all, but the screenshots they provide read more like “this is an inappropriate joke that shouldn’t be being made, not a genuine attempt at grooming” and op also makes the claim that they can’t provide proof of anything worse because it was on snapchat

both of which should set off alarm bells if you’ve been paying attention to the kinds of stories that have been spread in the past in this community and the types of evidence used in them

framing any inappropriate conduct regardless of intent as grooming is also dangerous in general as it kind of makes it harder to talk about actual warning signs of grooming, if that makes sense at all. i worry that it will be harder for kids to notice when they’re actually being groomed

it’s like, i can’t help but feel that stuff like this is what leads to the kids who say that their teenage peer a few years older than them making a dick joke is grooming but not recognizing that an adult who continously tries to market themselves as safe is more likely to have nefarious intentions
