The Serpent’s Eye; of things to come.
DECOY 5 by Marko-Djurdjevic
Of things to come: the exile.
Dark days on Osiron.
Concept for Nepheron, seat of the Ministry’s power.
And...we’re back.
The Mantalese Hall, Empress Roshanak Senapati’s summer palace.
(Sketch of Russia’s Winter Palace)
One bad operative - of things to come. Early concept study for a character that won’t appear for several more chapters.

It wasn't long before the low hum of anti-grav engines could be heard above the howl of the wind, and growing louder by the second. Turning from where he sat beside the body, he could see the narrow craft descending through the clouds, snow billowing out from beneath its repulsor field. It was oddly shaped though not ungainly; long, tapered, and slender from stem to stern. If it had lost its engines, you could believe it was capable of flying by more conventional means.
Despite it's narrow frame, it could still hold a substantial cargo, or crew as the case warranted. Swinging low overhead, the hovercraft – no doubt piloted by a computer - scanned the area with its sensors, building a picture of its surroundings with a cold, mechanical mind. Finally, the craft came to a landing solution and powered down on a nearby ledge.

Jorin sat perfectly still on the floor of a wide balcony overlooking the ministry commons, a long corridor of old-world palaces and grassy lawns enclosed by an ancient moat from centuries past. Beyond this and on all sides, the monolithic towers of Nepheron rose high into the mists of a gray morning. Between the buildings, swarms of drones hummed in narrow streams of automated traffic, racing like silverfish over busy streets below. It was mesmerizing to watch, and he meditated to the quiet rhythm of the city, trying to take his mind off of what was to come.
It was about twenty minutes later that they drew close enough to see the ships, or what was left of them. Melony almost wept as she looked down over the waters that shimmered with oil fires, strange objects bobbing amongst them, debris and bodies forming a long tail of destruction that ended in a cluster of black and broken vessels, blazing like a funeral pyre.
Seeing movement to her right, Melony turned to watch as the chief began his long, slow taxi to the far end of the runway. As he went, she reached back over her shoulder and carefully slid the glass canopy forward with one hand until it found its place, sealing her within. All she could hear now was the soft drone of her engines, like white noise all around her. The world outside her cockpit had become strangely muted, as though the battle and everything else was suddenly far away.

Wow 20,000 words! How many chapters is that? How do you keep the whole story in your mind
Yeah writing a novel can be a beast of a thing. Right now I'm at seven chapters, 25000 words and growing a little more each day. I actually wish I had more time to devote to it. As for how I keep it all in my head, I think it comes from visiting the story every day. I'm always trying to work something out plot-wise because characters and situations constantly challenge me to think more creatively. Thanks for your interest!

You may have heard this in one or two movie trailers recently. When I try to get inspired about writing my story, this piece always, always gets me.
More studies of Osiron. Hi I'm back! Also, hit the 20,000 word barrier, that means my novel is like a sixth of the way written! So much further to go...
“That is why we are sending you to Eurys, Jorin. You will be the long arm of the ministry that reaches out across the stars to deliver us our great victory. When they see their rocket destroyed on the launch pad, their hope will fail them, and their spirit will break. Then, the war will end.”

“Always seems closer than it is” her father said, shaking Melony from her hazy reverie. As he spoke the first of many monolithic oil wells whipped by on the left, one among many others which rose high and dark from the land around the outskirts of the town. These rusted, decaying relics once fed a web of pipes that ran deep beneath the fields and which had made many men very wealthy before the well dried up and with it the riches of the community.
"I have just one request."
