Rewatching the movie, and the part where Darry just..picks Steve up and tosses him to the side??

Like you know he does that all the time! I live for Darry being an asshole older brother, he’s so silly!!

I already headcanon that Darry moves the gang around. If they’re in his way or annoying him, he will just pick them up and put them somewhere else. Like they’re toddlers or something.

Soda and Pony are the main victims of this, they grew up with it. Pony HATES it and will yell and complain whenever Darry puts his hands on him. Meanwhile, Soda has gotten used to it and just lets it happen.

By proxy, I think Steve also is pretty used to it, since we can assume he’s been around the Curtises the longest (i also have thoughts about this) so Darry’s bein throwing him around since they were little. I imagine Darry is even a bit rougher with Steve since he’s not as soft as Soda and Pony.

Once, when they were little, Darry underestimated his own strength and threw Steve into a wall so hard he got a concussion. Mr Curtis was NOT happy with him. (I also headcanon that Mr Curtis adored Steve in the same way that Mrs Curtis adored Dallas)

He doesn’t to it to Two-Bit a lot, but on rare occasions Darry will get fed up and just throw him over his shoulder. Usually does it to protect the kitchen from his grubby hands.

Darry used to do it to Johnny when they were younger, but after he was jumped, he doesn’t anymore. Johnny panics at sudden touches, so randomly picking him up nowadays is a big no.

Darry consciously chose not to do it to Dallas, since..y’know, he’d probably get his nose broken. But I think one day Darry’s so tired and his brain just isn’t working, so he unconsciously does it to Dallas. And Dally on instinct just..goes limp. Like you know how a kitten goes limp when its mom scruffs it?

Dally REFUSES to talk about it ever again.

Brill and Bev are so interesting to me. There’s just smth about their dynamic that I love so much. How they’re both filled with a fear of failure. Bev is scared of letting down her parents and not living up to her mother’s crazy high expectations. Brill is scared that one day, so many truths about himself that he keeps hidden will get out. And when that happens, he’ll wind up stuck in Tulsa forever. But when they’re together, that doesn’t matter anymore.

When she’s with Brill, Bev doesn’t have to be the girl who carries all of her mother’s hopes and dreams on her back. She doesn’t need to be the girl that has to make it, so she doesn’t become her parents. She can just be a teenager, wrapped up in the arms of a boy she loves. And she knows there’s no judgement. If she showed up on his doorstep, crying and soaked from rain, he’d pull her in, hug her close, and then give her a towel and hand her a pair of clothes that she keeps at his house. And then, in the warmth of his bed and the safety of his arms, she could tell him what happened. And there’s judgement. Because she knows she doesn’t need to validate her pain to him. She can just tell him that her parents were fighting again, and her mom started directing her anger at Bev and she couldn’t take it anymore. And he’d pulled closer, one arm around her waist, the other holding her hand, and would kiss her head and tell her it’s going to be ok. Maybe not soon, but eventually, when they get out of this town, it’s going to be ok.

And Brill found safety in Bev. He found someone who maybe didn’t fully understand him, but loved him regardless. And she always reminded him that her love was unconditional. She was safe for him. And when they were together, Brill didn’t need to be ashamed or scared to be who he was. He could tell her that he loved to dance and it wasn’t something he did just for sports. He could tell her about his family and their history without the fear that she’d tell everyone and then leave him alone. And she loved and supported him completely. How she’d maybe even ask him to show and tell her about things. She’d ask him to show her a dance step that he’d known since he was seven years old. She’d ask him about his traditions and ask to see his family photos. She wanted to know each part of him, and love every single one.

And some nights, when they’d find themselves curled up together in one of their beds, they would start to quietly talk about their future. They planned it out together. How they’d get out of Tulsa and move to some big city like New York. How they’d get an apartment together, one that could be filled with things they loved and they wouldn’t need to hide. Maybe they’d get a cat or dog. Maybe they’d have a kid or two. But whatever they did, they’d be happy together. Suddenly, their quiet nights alone wouldn’t become a once or twice a week thing. Suddenly, they’d be free together. Free from the reminders and the pressure that Tulsa gave them. They’d be ok and they’d be together. And that would always pull them to a comfortable sleep together.

okay i have so many thoughts on bev and brill (dare i say, they are my favorite of the canon musical couples)

i see them being those kids that are like always together and all the adults are like “oh they’re going to grow up and get married”

brill has been in love with bev since they met as kids

meanwhile, people would be saying they're going to get married and bev would gag and be like "mmm no"

but brill was not going to give up because he was already in love and dedicated and he was ending up with bev or no one

then finally in high school, bev was like okay maybe he's not too bad and they finally got together

and brill was over the moon when she finally agreed to go out with him (she asked him. he had been asking her out for years to no avail but one day she randomly got walked up to him and went "we're going out tonight at 7" then walked away) (he ran to the guys screaming and cheering right away)

i went into this in my soc family headcanons but bev's home life and family is very toxic

so she is spending all of her time at brill's house when possible

brill's family is very supportive so they are more than happy to have her over

bev gets along really well with brill's mom but it took her a LONGGG time to be able to let her in and get close to her

he has def come home to her just being at his house and he’s like “i didn’t know you were coming over tonight?” and she’s like “oh well your mom and i are having a girls night tonight”

so brill has to go hang out with the guys while bev hangs out with his mom (he acts annoyed by it but he’s thrilled that his mom likes bev so much)

bev is a passenger princess to the max

like she has her license and even has a really nice car

but what’s the point of dating brill if he isn’t going to drive her places?

so she will be like “hey babe, i need to go to *insert place* so can you drop me off and then come back and get me like 2 hours later”

and brill is WHIPPED so he’s dropping all of his plans to do it

there have been times where he’s been out with the guys and he’s like “oh, it’s 4, i have to go get bev” and he just leaves (not caring that he was the guys’ ride and that they’re now stranded)

they are the least toxic of the soc couples (ie them, martrip, and cherrybob)

that's not to say that they can't be toxic with each other

they definitely can (self promo for my fic 'they're my best friends' which is a bev focused fic where we see a bit of that toxicity between them) ESPECIALLY post canon

in my head, brill is very close to every single member of the friend group, including cherry. like i went into in my family headcanons, brill's parents are the go-to adults for advice, so he's used to having all of them over at random times to hang out

and he is also definitely the best at recognizing and dealing with his emotions so i see him being the first of the group to recognize that bob was an issue and that what happened to him, while awful, was his own fault. and he's definitely the first of the guys to acknowledge that they hold some of the blame as well, not cherry

and this definitely causes fights between him and bev, because bev is not used to acknowledging her own emotions and she does not want to start with realizing that she could hold some of the blame for her friend's death

but they are able to work on it and heal (it takes a longggg while but it does happen)

and they are just sooo deeply in love and brill is so cocky about the fact that he managed to get with the girl he has been in love with his entire life

and he is never letting anyone forget it

i cannot emphasize enough that he is SO whipped for her

all the Soc boys HATE brill on Valentine's day bc of how all out he goes for Bev where he publicly sings to her, gets her her favorite chocolates, gives her a ridiculously large bouquet, and writes her a love poem and they have like. a rose and a card.

When Darry and Paul are seniors, there’s this crop of annoying freshmen Socs on the JV football team who follow Paul around like rich, spoiled ducklings. Apparently Paul’s parents are friends with a lot of their parents or whatever, connections from the same rich, snotty west side neighborhood. They’re always hanging around Paul, bugging him for rides and booze. (At seventeen, Paul’s fake ID is more convincing than these preppy kindergartners.)

One day they play a prank on the kids - Paul generously lets all the Soc boys pile into his mustang with Darry driving. Darry has perfected his technique of driving like a bat outta hell to entertain his little brothers. He speeds, takes razor sharp turns, spins the car in circles, skids a little too close to ditches. It has the desired effect. The passengers are all terrified, nauseous, or both. Trip screams like a girl. (What kinda name is Trip anyway?) Brill (ditto on the dumb name) has a death grip on the door handle so hard his knuckles are white, eyes wide with terror. When they get out of the car, Chet throws up. And Bobby (“Paul, quit calling me that, it’s Bob now!”) looks like he ain’t even breathing.

Darry and Paul laugh their asses off.

Darry gets a sudden sense of Deja vu in Pershing park. Through the coating of rain, mud, and blood, he sees swatches of torn madras shirts floating in puddles, wobbling upright, and stumbling away toward cars that somebody had stupidly given them a license to operate.

Darry and Paul are glaring at each other like they’ve never laughed together a day in their lives. Trip takes a nasty looking punch from Two-Bit, and screams like a girl. Brill stands frozen for a moment until his friends grab him, fists clenched so hard they’re vibrating, eyes wide with terror. Chet drops to his knees on his way out of the park, and throws up. And Bobby - Bob -

Bob isn’t breathing.
