I raise my children to acknowledge and understand the power of story, of telling. I teach them the power of words, of releasing ideas so that they can empower others. Of letting hurts loose so that when someone comes to us in pain we can be available to listen, to nurture. I hope that in sharing my own story I can be an example to others of what abortion really is, besides all the medical jargon and distanced presumptions. An example of why judging and persecuting and continuing to shame women who get abortions is wrong. I hope I can be the vessel for a story someone needs to tell. This is just the beginning of my journey to try and educate, relate, and inspire others in my life and afar to things I have experience with. Abortion is now one of those things. This is not about forcing others to share your ideals, but allowing each other to have safety in their own choices. No one should be forced to have an abortion, and no one should be denied the right to have one. . . . #abortionisnormal #thesestoriesareourstotell #thisisnotadebate #shoutyourabortion #quitthefuckingwitchhuntalready
This is not about changing your ideals or what you would choose for yourself. This is about respecting the strength it took to overcome all the obstacles to do what was best for each individual woman. We live in a global community where what is needed more than anything right now is love, respect, and support for all. It's not our jobs to judge, but to show compassion beyond what we imagine our limits to be. . . . #shoutyourabortion
And this is mine : A year ago I was living in an abusive and hostile environment, grieving the loss of a grandparent, watching one family member rest after beating cancer as another one was diagnosed, raising my two children, coping with anxiety and depression.. and falling madly in love with my best friend. As things will go, we found ourselves pregnant. In another time we would have born and loved with all our hearts the child I would have carried but life doesn't always offer the same support as it may six months prior or later. This was what we knew was best for us and the lives we were living, as hard a choice as it was for us. We had an abortion. . . . #shoutyourabortion

Caring for the environment is neither a chore nor a hobby, but rather a citizen’s duty. Look around, and get informed. Educate yourself about the impact of our society’s wasteful habits, it will soon become clear to you that we can’t keep on doing things the way we’ve done them for generations. If you don’t want to do it for yourself, then at least have some compassion for those that will succeed you.

This is one of my favorite quotes about caring for our environment.

Because good art is worth sharing - especially when it's a pic of King Kong with my pitbulls head drawn by my daughter.

Don't just wonder.. go find out for yourself.
Being passionate about many things, it's appropriate this blog started with birth and will now go in any direction I find interesting and worth sharing. Such is life. Share your passions, inspire, and soak it all in. There is so much wonder out there to appreciate. Start now!
One of the many resources for unschooling. #yesiseetheirony
Where to start with a blog? Well, yesterday was the sixth birthday of my daughter, an anniversary of one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Natural birthing has been a passion of mine since that day, so we'll start, most appropriately, with birth.
Our homebirth was an intimate start for our life together, supported by family and an amazing groups of midwives. I spent a lot of time yesterday reflecting on this and the space my body was then and where it is now. I was left feeling extremely fortunate. What a wonderful beginning for motherhood, for my daughter's existence on this earth, for the profound awakening it stirred in me as I recognized the strength within myself.
As someone living in the U.S. I know our society does little to support, let alone allow, events such as homebirth to be experienced. Depending on the state you live in and your health care, it may not even be an option. I was fortunate enough to have an understanding of the term midwife and I went from there. With the internet, library and book stores, I went and educated myself with the help of my partner, and we decided this was how we wanted to go forward in supporting the life that we had created.
Not everyone has the same support I did. Not everyone has the resources so readily available to learn and follow through with the idea of a natural birth with a supportive midwife, at home or in a birthing center. So here's to keeping the knowledge alive! Here's to starting with reminding and empowering women of their own strength - mental, physical, and emotional. Educate! Yourself and those around you. Let's not shy away from talking about even an issue as private as birth. Especially in the U.S., where sex is so openly discussed and advertised, why should open discussion about birthing options be so taboo?
No one should be excluded from an opportunity to be educated on this issue. Every year we celebrate our births. Let's give this special day of our children's first breaths more significance with education, support for planning, and respect of the event itself. Let's not deny ourselves the pleasure of completion of a process women's bodies were made for.
