one of the many things i love about kirk and spock’s relationship is the fact that unlike most of the other characters who don’t understand spock or want him to be more human, kirk really admires spock exactly the way he is. even others close to spock (like mccoy, chapel, his own father) all expect him to act a certain way and are disappointed when he doesn’t, but not kirk. kirk is constantly impressed and in awe of the ways spock differs from humans. instead of finding him cold or robotic, he finds him so intelligent and special. and the little ways in which kirk tries to get spock to use human idioms or admit to feeling emotions are purely to make him comfortable with his human side and because kirk enjoys banter (cough flirting). he’s never offensive or ignorant. he encourages spock to lean into his human side, not because he wants him to be more human, but because he wants him to be comfortable with himself. kirk has defended spock several times to those who don’t understand him. kirk’s brain doesn’t ever go to the “spock is too different” place because it’s just not how he sees spock. kirk really thinks the world of spock, and it’s so lovely to see when spock faces so much prejudice from just about everyone else around him. to a lot of people, both humans and vulcans, spock is simply too different, an anomaly. to kirk, spock is simply amazing. and anyone who disagrees will have to hear about it.
