Glancing over at Nejire, Emi perceives that the girl is deep in thought. “What’s on your mind?” If anything, this was about Nejire and her getting experience, not her. She told herself that she was going to do everything in her power to make this an enjoyable learning experience for the girl. Well, the best she could by accepting the girl for who she was and how she processed things. Afterall, Emi would never tell anyone not to be themselves.

Glaring down at the spot about where Nejire is staring out, Emi recognizes what the girl must be contemplating about. But, they would have to wait there until the woman acted illegally.

Nejire wasn't normally one to say something about their looks, but the expression on the girl's face seemed a bit twisted, like she was about to do something bad. Nejire grew a bit worried and focused on her, readying herself to jump in when she needed to.

Packing up her belongings to get ready for the next school day, Emi headed out of Ketsubetsu and back to her apartment. Dropping her items off at home, she quickly changed into her hero uniform, hoping that she could at least meet Nejire halfway from her apartment and UA.

Leaving her home, Emi jogged to where the two had agreed to meet. It was quite unusual to see people out and running on the side of the street, but most days, the public was probably staring at her strangely anyway.

Arriving at her destination, Emi realized she made it there reasonably early. Sweeping the area for Nejire, she decided it was okay for her to relax as she waited for the young girl. Lounging her back against the wall, Emi concluded she would watch for anything out of the ordinary.

Nejire looked down at her phone to check the time. It was still a bit early, but she decided to get ready anyway. Without further delay, she changed into her hero outfit and took a look in the mirror, adjusting her hair and headband a tad bit. Once she deemed herself ready and presentable, she made her way out of the house and to the meeting location.

As Nejire walked, she kept an eye out, looking for anyone who had met the description of her mentor for the day. Upon spotting Ms. Joke, Nejire waved her hands above her head and ran over.

“Hello! Sorry if I’m a bit late. I didn’t expect you to be here yet!”

Observing the crowds, Emi couldn’t find anything abnormal. Tilting her head up, she closed her eyes and pondered how her day on patrol would go with Nejire. If anything, it baffling to think that UA would have their students travel an hour or more to their destination just to roam the streets closer to Ketsubetsu. Either way, it felt like an incredible honor to have one of the top three of UA ask to go patrolling with her.

Giving the young girl a charming smile, Emi waved her hand dismissingly. “It’s no problem, Nejire! I am a bit early anyway! So, you’re perfectly fine!” Tapping her lips with her pointer finger, Emi asked, “Is there anything, in particular, you want to get out of today’s experience? I know we talked about what and where we were going, but I want you to grow from this. It may benefit you to get familiar with the area more. My only thing about that is I would feel horrible if that was the only thing you took away from this. So give me all that you got!”

“Anything that I want to get from this? Well, I’d like to be able to focus on one objective without getting distracted but that’s a personal goal. Umm..”

She placed her index finger near her lips and thought for a moment. What exactly did she want to get from this? She basically jumped at the chance to get experience in a different area and with a different mentor, but what did she want to learn?

“I can’t think of anything in particular at the moment, but when I know exactly what it is I want, I’ll let you know!”

Cocking her head back at Nejire, Emi assured her, “We’ll have plenty of time for you to dwell on it, so there is no rush!” Leading the young woman to where they would be watching for crime, she attempted to get them there reasonably quickly.

Arriving at one of the highest rooftops, Emi hopped onto the corner edge. Dangling her legs, she grins, “How do you feel so far, Nejire? I’m sure you’ve done this plenty of times before, being the number three her at UA.”

Leaning back, Emi glared into the sky. Humming to herself, she sought to make Nejire as relaxed as possible. She was confident that Nejire would do impeccably well, but she needed to convince her that. “Any thoughts yet about what you what to work on or about the area so far?”

Nejire had been staring down at the street for awhile, legs swinging off the edge of the rooftop. She looked back up and at her mentor for the day.

“hm? Well. What’s this area like? Is it often busy or can it get really quiet? What’s the crime rate here?”

Her mind had been flooding with questions to ask, but she decided to narrow it down to just a handful of them. She didn’t want to overwhelm Ms.Joke.

“I haven’t really been here in this area much so I’m curious.”

Chuckling to herself, Emi was already fond of Nejire. Keeping Nejire in her peripheral view, her eyes burned with passion as she responded to the young lady’s questions. “Oh, you’re curious! I love it! Seeing a young individual with so much determination and purpose, it makes my heart race!”

Whipping her head with an enormous grin plastered on her face, Emi presented everything the girl would have to know. “The area is very laid back compared to UA. We still get our villains or criminals in this part of town, but I’m sure it’s nothing you can’t handle.” Returning her attention back on the city, she specified further, “Depending on the day, it can be horribly busy, but many days are steady. I would say the crime rate is at about twenty percent.”

She let out a small laugh and grinned upon hearing praise. Nejire looked back at the ground below her and listened carefully to the other’s words. She took mental notes of everything said, also noting to write everything down when she got home.

“So, this area is most likely rather calm at night yes? I can imagine there would be a lot of foot traffic during the day, especially after 5. That would be a good time to patrol a bit no?” She placed a hand under her chin and thought to herself momentarily. “However, I’m sure the weekends get busy towards the night time as well. That would be a good time for a villain to strike, so that would also be a good time to patrol.”

Nejire shook her head and laughed softly.

“Sorry about that, I tend to talk a bit too much when I get deep in thought.”

Attentively listening to Nejire as she thought through how to approach this part of town for patrols, Emi kept watching below. It was intriguing to listen to the girl’s thought process, but as soon as Nejire apologized, Emi corrected her. “Don’t ever apologize for doing your job. From what I heard, you theorized it correctly from what you could at least. Everyone has their own way of figuring things out, don’t apologize for being you."

Spotting a sign of what could be distress in a matter of moments, Emi turned to the girl. "Looks like we’re going to be headed down in a few moments. Do you see what could be our problem down there?"

Stretching her arms, Emi prepared herself for a possible troublemaker. "Watch her carefully."

She blinked a few times. Not being scolded for talking too much? That was a first. She felt a small smile pull onto her lips. Nejire liked her already. Slowly, she stood and nodded.

"Alright, I won't. Thank you."

Her gaze switched to the woman on the street. She watched rather intently for a few moments. Something seemed off with her. She curled a finger on her chin and thought for a moment.
