Sefa, Bandit Queen in Skyjacks total anarchy stance is more aligned with we will have no formal set of governance or rules. Maybe ideology built around doing what's best for the world as a whole. Which is idealistic after the conflict is over unless they get rid of the gold system, which is possible. I think she can accomplish it , rather or not that's seen in the actual game. Her Aramda seems loose enough to have a chain of command and formal recruiting process, without relying on strict oversight protocols. They hire out other ships and coursairs for work in pursuit of the cause, which is smart, limited risk if they're caught and can't break into however their passing along information.
She does employ strategic alliances and planning with resource guarding to have brought stability to certain places in Sphere where they can continue to hold off Syndicate influence. She openly recognizes other seats of power, people of influence, and ability to form trade deals, with usual preference given in her arrival. I'm guessing that was probably both working to keep trade routes safe, Syndicate influence away, and providing resources that otherwise hard to get. Examples to of places that can tolerate them only as stabilizing presence while catering to anyone outside the Syndicate to other extreme of full control down rule of law. Would they embrace the Armada as a new stabilizing force? Would it be a free for all? Who knows.
Anyways since Syndicate don't seem to be doing much propaganda work besides you don't want freedom, give freedom to pelican, pelican keep freedoms safe, you are willing to surrender freedom for Pelican. Sefa continued consolidation of power fo the Aramda would be interesting to see how they present an alternative to people so far outside the idea anything other than the Syndicate. As in uh Sorrows End colony recently very quick revolution from , can't believe it's probably not people! Dye factory.
Skyjacks Lastest Arc Jolly Jack and Potàmia Cuomo- Thoughts and Lore
I don't think people do enough appreciation for making up questions for how the world building works here. It's definitely slow burn , expansive, lots of directions
Cool stuff: drowned sailors lore, coyote biting dead dick salty balls, giant crane, forest queen deals and trickery, Travis having at least one person he rather never see again and a new one by the end of the arc, Margret trying to do her job and more lore, lumens fighting each other while normal people are trying to work and get on. Wendell very big adventure.
I liked this arc. I also like Jolly Jack overeall as a character, sad to see Jiyrace didnt make a big appearance, I'm sure they were out there.
Thoughts:
The whole point was, I think, to force Travis to begin his character redemption arc. Way back in Buzaneeth (spelling?) it's hinted that he was the cause for Courier Ashworth, who delivered Gable letters and his bird, parents going missing. I mean literally one line, I won't do a heist with you, I remember what you did last time. That could be me reading into it, but I listen to all of Couriers Call to. He tore up Margaret's letter at the Jungle, he obviously regrets that in this arc. So wherever he was after sizing up with mom , he decided he probably should try again to have a conversation.
The lore of Margret dying is so off the power of Lumen stories and Travis which has been more overtly shown, just how deep that tangle goes. Eventually the Forest Queen will have to die to allow the cycle to continue, who knows if that's going to be in campaign or not, but I think it pushes a narrative been repeated over and over again, finally see it played out with larger stakes. In Nordia, there was the Mariner, but since Jonnit was the pull of his focus, the river was the only thing separating them.
Jolly Jack is some kind of lumen. I don't think we got any more hints. We know he knows how to make feather weave, and for some reason I was absolutely convinced it was going to be let me show you how I make salt and then salt canons at drowned soliders. We got how feather weave is made. That's important. The syndicate either doesn't know or knows to the extreme and is resource guarding, reinforcing again capitalism limits. He stilted in his own journey, and Margret with Travis was a great distraction to go, actually let's focus on your problems.
Travis seeing direct omens and not taking them seriously at first very on point.
I think the arc reallt highlights that the listener understands that the lumens, literal in the physical with Travis, Margret, drowned and marked sailors, and the unphysical , forest queen and the river, that their affects and presence for people trying to get on with their lives. To the people there one minute their entertaining a well known merchant and Keifs got a crane side project and the next the lumens have decided actually fuck your settlement, their having to pull up to keep going.
If you knew a god that represented enternal changing stories was hanging out eating dinner with you, you probably have some questions.
I think it also points to the limits Travis and Margret have over directly stopping other forces like the Mariner. Or else they would have been able to change the direction of events completely. The forest queen to requires people to willingly accept her help in some cases, I guess there has to be a forest there for her to have power to divide up a place or eat it. That's interesting for the story going forward. Margaret ability to escape death, without the Cutting Stones being alerted, is interesting to. Do lumens have an unnatural abiliy to avoid dying? Forest Queen arc so far shows that's probably a really bad thing as stories should be allowed to change.
Vital things leave you; this absence may be temporary, but there is no telling how long it will last. A soul caught in The Drought will be in great need, they may be forced to do unthinkable things in the name of survival.
