Security is elusive. It’s impossible. We all die. We all get old. We all get sick. People leave us. People change us. Nothing is secure.
Eve Ensler (via feellng)
Instead of saying “I don’t have time” try saying “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. Often, that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don’t want to. But other things are harder. Try it: “I’m not going to edit your résumé, sweetie, because it’s not a priority.” “I don’t go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.” If these phrases don’t sit well, that’s the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently.

Dreams
It seems so long ago that I was standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, in disbelief that I finally got to see something I’d dreamt about. Ever since I was little, I’ve wanted to go to Paris & see the Eiffel Tower. Part of that probably stems from my Aunt Joan. she once lived in Paris, and abandoned her favorite place for true love. That’s another story for another day. She’s now a retired French teacher. But she once took trips over there with her high school students and met up with an exchange teacher in France. My mom also went as a chaperone. Every time my aunt would go over, she would bring back souvenirs for me and my siblings. When the time came to take a language in middle school (8th grade), it was a no-brainer to take French. All my other friends took Spanish because they said it would be useful. I didn’t argue that it wouldn’t be but I just wasn’t into it. I didn’t want to do what everybody else was doing. My first year of French was a really great year. I had one of the best teachers you could ask for. She was young, enthusiastic, and made class enjoyable. If it wasn’t for her, I might’ve not been interested in French anymore. I went on to take two more years, and simply stopped because the teacher was not a good teacher. You could tell she was burn out on teaching. She didn’t have the vibrance, or passion anymore. Little did I know, that would be the last year for her too. The same year I had this teacher (my sophomore year), some of the teachers were planning a trip to Paris. Excitedly, I told my mom that I had to go. It was my dream. I was so passionate about the culture, the language, and the landmarks. So we had a long talk about it and planned on going to the meetings. We went to the meetings, found out the dates, about the itinerary, and secured my spot. Then one day during French class, I was delivered a little envelope from the office. There weren’t enough people going on the trip so they had to cancel it. I was so upset. It crushed me to hear this news. This probably triggered me not to take French anymore. Cuz all I could think was I’m never going to see France now. My junior year, I continued to stay close to some of the friends I had met my freshman year. I found out that my best friend was going to go to Paris with her grandparents & I could come too. What could get any better, two best friends seeing Paris for the first time together. It was one of her dreams too to see Paris. We were both so excited. Although, my family was going to go to Myrtle Beach that year & I really wanted to go. We hadn’t been in a long time and we used to go every year. It just so happened to be the same dates they were going to Paris. So I chose family over friends. And if it was meant to be, it’d find a way. It was a great vacation. But I told myself, that I would see Paris my senior year no matter what. That was my goal I established. So my aunt & my mom made it my graduation present to go for a week to Paris. Best gift ever. Hands down. It was definitely worth the wait. I felt so blessed to be there. I just enriched myself in their culture. Especially the fashion. About every day I wore black, and a scarf. That’s typically what most Parisians wear. I’m so happy that everything just fell into place while I was there (except my mom getting lost). That was just a test that we all have to stay together in this world.

Love doesn’t just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.
