You grabbed the fluffed and straightened the pillows, stacking them how you liked them as Elliot straightened out the duvet.
“I’ll need to head home later,” you said as you picked up the blanket together, folding it in half along the end of the bed.
“Why?”
“Because I have a case report to finish that needs to be on Cragen’s desk tomorrow morning and laundry that desperately needs doing,” you said, placing the throw pillow onto the bed, “Unless you want me to turn up for work tomorrow in nothing?’’
Elliot raised his eyebrows at you then, a playful smile tugging at his lips.

“Do you ever think about getting one?” My voice is quiet, not wanting to disturb the peace of this late night moment with Spencer as he drags his fingers up and down the ink decorating my collar bone.
He had gotten home from a far too long case a couple hours ago and was too exhausted to do anything but nap. But the second he woke up, he was begging me to come lay with him for a bit. Five minutes turned to 30 and now it’s 12:18am and we still haven’t gotten ready for bed.
“It wouldn’t look as cool on me.” His hands move my clothes out of the way to peak at that Van Gogh quote on my hip.
“Love is something eternal. The aspect may change, but not the essence.” He whispers, smiling to himself. I had gotten it a week after we had said I love you. It didn’t mention him, but we both knew it was for him.
“It would look very cool on you. And they don’t hurt too bad! Unless you get it on a thin area.”
“Like the ribs?” He smirks at me, thinking back to the one and only time he had gone with me to the salon.
“...It didn’t hurt that bad.” I pout and he grins, pushing my shirt up to reveal the tattoo. A sprig of lilacs curve under my breast. He was particularly a fan of how pretty this one was.
“You nearly broke my hand with how hard you were squeezing.” He teases and I shake my head.
“Yeah yeah I’d like to see you get one Mr. Cries when he gets a paper cut.” I poke him and he smiles, hugging me tight.
“If I did get one...what do you think it should be?”
“Hmm...could get something for Dr. Who? Or a book? Maybe your favourite poem?” I peer up at him to see him deep in thought.
“I don’t know if I wanna get all of Annabel Lee tattooed on me.” He chuckles and I laugh.
“Well, it can be whatever you want. That’s the cool thing about tattoo. You just get to carry around something you like.”
“Doesn’t it have to have some deeper meaning?” I smile, shaking my head.
“Nope! It can be absolutely anything. The only criteria is that you like it.” I feel him hum, still thinking.
Soon enough, my eyes start to droop and I eventually fall asleep.
“What are you doing babe?” I rub my eyes as I walk into the living room, still half asleep. Much to my chagrin, I had woken up alone.
“Reading.” He responds, still engrossed in his book. He’s surrounded by various open books. I glance over, reading the title of the one in his hands.
“The science of tattooing?” I read out loud. He nods, flipping through it at his normal fast pace.
“Why are you reading about that?” I sit down on the empty spot on the couch, picking up one of the books.
“Wanted to do my research before I consider getting one!” He smiles up at me before focusing back on his book.
The image in my head of Spencer with tattoos is simply too much for me to bear. I kiss his forehead and head over to the kitchen to make breakfast.
“I’m nervous.” Spencer fiddles with his seat belt as I park infront of my usual tattoo shop. ‘The Blue Room’ was known for it’s amazing tattoos, and I had never gone anywhere else.
“You don’t have to get one baby.” I squeeze his hand and he squeezes back three times.
“I want it. I really want it. Just...need a minute?” He takes a deep breath, staring at the shop. Meanwhile, I wonder what kind of tattoo he’s planning on getting. He had insisted on keeping it a secret, despite my constant pleading.
“Okay. I’m ready. Let’s go?” He smiles at me and gets out of the car.
“Hi Nicole!” I grin at my tattoo artist as she comes over to the counter to check us in.
“Hey! Back so soon? Your last one was only a few months ago!” Spencer shifts next to me, clearly starting to get nervous.
“I’m actually not here for me. Spencer wants his first tattoo!” She smiles knowingly at me, remembering how he paled the second the needle touched my skin.
“Well, we can do that! Come on Spencer!” We follow her over to her station and Spencer sits down, already fiddling with his fingers.
“So Spencer, what are we thinking?” She asks him. He pulls out a small, folded piece of paper. He unfolds it and shoots me a look, warning me not to peak. I smile, sitting back as Nicole preps the sketch.
When she has it ready, he undoes the first two buttons of his shirt, shifting the fabric and tapping the area where his heart is. As he lays back, he opens his hand for me and I sit next to him, interlocking our fingers.
“You can’t see it till it’s done.” He mumbles, big brown eyes staring up at me. I smile, gently kissing his forehead.
“I know baby. Don’t worry, I won’t peak.” I watch as Nicole gets everything ready, before finally holding the tattoo gun close to his skin.
“Are you ready?” She asks him. He squeezes his eyes shut and nods. She presses the gun to his skin and starts to tattoo him. I watch his expressions closely, seeing him grimace a little at the feeling.
“It’s okay baby. You’re alright.” I whisper to him, squeezing his hand.
It’s torture to not peak at the tattoo but I do want to be surprised. After what feels like forever, but is probably only an hour, Nicole is finished.
“Alright Spencer! Wanna check it out in the mirror?” He takes a deep breath, sitting up. I wait patiently in the chair as he walks over to the mirror, inspecting the permanent ink on his skin.
“Come here?” He asks, gesturing me over. I walk over, trying to keep my eyes off the tattoo.
“You can look now.” I smile, immediately looking at the tattoo.
It looks...familiar.
“Is-is that my handwriting?” I step closer to him, inspecting the cursive, identical to the cursive I use when writing love letters to Spencer. I wrote one every time he was away on a case, giving them to him whenever he returned home safe. I liked to joke that it was incentive for him to come back. I knew he liked them, but I never thought he would tattoo it on him.
But there it was.
‘If I had to live my life again, I’d find you sooner’
I don’t even realize there are tears in my eyes till they’re running down my cheeks.
“Do you like it?” Spencer whispers, rubbing the tears away with him thumbs. I smile and nod, unable to get a single word out.
“It was the first letter you ever wrote me...you’ve written so many but this line? This one has always been my favourite. You told me to get something I loved so...I got you.” He smiles, tears in his eyes too. I grin and wrap my arms around his torso, hugging him as tight as I can.
“I love you. I love you so so so much.” He kisses my head, hugging me just as tight.
