book one wylan is so fun because we never know his inner thoughts and he’s kinda unhinged. swings wildly between “kaz don’t kill that guy” and “we could wake them.” sings once. looks shocked when the bombs he made work. flirts. truly unreadable from an outside perspective.
and then you get book two wylan and you realize that every decision he’s made is entirely spur-of-the-moment and panicked and he exists in a constant state of fear and it’s like oh. yeah that makes sense
okay but whenever I reread soc or ck, I get a little excited whenever wylan does anything. it doesn't have to be anything big. even if he's just mentioned I smile like a fool. I just love to see my little guy existing

Godddd ts definitely deserved a longer run than this cause what the actual fuck was that. I'm still running fresh on it but i wanna get this out before I get my opinion influenced by socmed SO, honestly the story was nice in my opinion like if it was in a regular season and had the pace that we were used to from the past 2 seasons then I think I would have rather enjoyed it a lot.

What kind of makes me sad is the fact that we didn't get much time to marinate with the moments that were supposed to be hard-hitting and were supposed to make us panic or get us excited. I really really would have wanted to spend more time with Jesus/Joseph cause his shenanigans with Harry were pretty nice and I would have liked to see whether or not the effects of his preaching would have mirrored what happened to him in the past and idk maybe we would have gotten some stuff to think about regarding the message of human nature and kindness and all that stuff idk. Maybe we could have seen his perspective on the modern world and how people are misinterpreting/misrepresenting/selectively choosing what to take from the bible ykyk. I would have really wanted to spend time with the mystery in heaven and maybe follow Muriel's investigation more closely and maybe see more of the administrative work that happens in heaven beyond the archangels. I would have wanted to see a slow-burn of Michaels descent into madness rather than a quick 30 second reveal from aziraphale and crowley then a quick cut to Michael killing Uriel.
I wanted to spend so much more time with crowley and aziraphale picking up the pieces of their relationship and understanding each other's perspective. WE DIDNT EVEN GET A PROPER KISS MAN. Crowley losing the bentley wasn't that much of a surprise because of the trailer but the fact that we just skip over the whole "you ran out of miracles" and the fact that he was guarding the bookshop really pissed me off because WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE NEVER GET TO SEE HIM SOLEMNLY LOOKING DOWN AND REMINISCING. The whole thing with satan and god was cute like I'm fine with it I actually like that we get to see the big bosses of each side but again, WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME WITH THEMMM. Maybe a scene with crowley talking with god about the whole fate and human nature thing and aziraphale with satan talking about the war and kind of seeing where lucifer was coming from since azi was like (idk the right word for it) in denial or fully convinced that demons were bad for the sake of being bad and idkidk man i just wanted sum more nuance to it ig. ALSO ikk that the demons and angels can all have different bodies and can present differently the next time we see them like ts was established with beelzebub I KNOW but kinda sad we didn't get a little benedict cucumber.
SPEAKING OF BEELZEBUB, kinda sad there wasn't any cameo. Ik they fucked off to somewhere in the universe but god idk maybe just a little acknowledgement of where they are would have been nice. Same kinda goes for the characters in the previous seasons like idk would've been cool to check with adam and anathema and NINA AND MAGGIE. deadass i was so disappointed when we didn't even see them beyond a 'oop yeah the record shop is dead and the coffee shop was sold.' ALSO IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, (idk if it's like an implied thing for citizens in the uk likeidk man maybe they're gentrifying the street idfk) WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HARD TIMES THEY FELL ON LIKE MAYBE WE COULD HAVE HAD A SCENE WHERE AZIRAPHALE TURNS TO THE LESBIANS BECAUSE CROWLEY WOULDN'T REALLY SPEAK TO HIM AND THEY COULD HAVE HAD A CHAT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
LAST WHAT-IF CAUSE GAWD DAMN. I really really would have wanted an episode of just the bookshop as the center of the universe like the contemplation and conversations would have probably been beautiful and I wanted to spend more time with them in the bookshop of eden conversation like god I genuinely could not stop crying. I'm stopping with the could-have's cause really there is a LOT.
One thing I did really enjoy though was the aspect ratio change. All throughout the movie there are letterboxes and it's fitting it's cinematic afterall it's a story and it's one written and (im pulling this outta my ass) by god so of course it would come across as dramatic and like the camera is always steady there's going to be establishing shots galore of each set piece and the lighting and color-grading is vibrant and gorgeous, but the moment that god rewrites and recreates the universe to the demands of crowley and aziraphale we lose the letterbox and get the scenes in all it's glory. The camera isn't steady anymore it's hand-held, it's just slightly shaky and the colors aren't that vibrant and the lighting isn't deliberate in the way that it was previously but it was so human. Early on, I noticed that the set, especially the street and the bookshop looked so cartoon-y and I was put-off a bit at first but after finishing the movie it all made sense, we lose the set pieces and we see the depressing english streets of soho but it's comforting because it's real. In the end, aziraphale and crowley gave up their eternity and powers and position for humanity because they fell in love with it and ended up embodying it themselves. They were tired of ineffable plans and wanted to give humanity a real and actual shot at living. Their surroundings may not be pretty and bright and warm but they bring that themselves and seeing them start so simple without the pressure of "I don't want to anger the side I'm on" and the weight of having to solve something bigger than themselves is so so beautiful. They get to live a life of their choosing, no more hell or heaven because they have each other. I won't say I was satisfied but I will say that I am soso happy for them.
Overall the movie ended up being so tell rather than show that it felt like I was being spoon-fed information atp and idk it just doesn't feel like that's what movies are supposed to do like c'monnnn. But in the end, I'm happy to know that Asa Fell and Anthony Crowley are happy to watch the stars in their own little cottage in the south downs. They can finally be happy.
(also kind of obligatory but entirely voluntary FUCK YOU to Neil Gaiman for the (allegedly) weird shit you have done to women) edit: also I'm rescinding my statement regarding the real kiss cause in the second season the "real kiss" that Crowley gave Aziraphale wasn't purely an act of love it was desperation. Crowley was begging Aziraphale to stay and he thought that if he just did that one act of "love" then everything will be alright. In a way, he was being selfish. He didn't give Aziraphale a confession and let him decide for himself what he wanted to do no, he was trying soo hard to keep things the way they were. In the third season, while they didn't lock lips, Aziraphale gave Crowley an act of love that didn't have a second emotion or motivation. It was just that, love. The action was so sweet and innocent too. It was the start of something new and exciting and free. It doesn't matter that they didn't swap spit because this new beginning in their relationship was new and exciting, they'll have time for the more saucy bits later.
kaz, nina, inej, and jesper all regularly exchange letters post-ck. jesper reads all of them out to wyaln, word for word. at first, when jesper writes back, wylan gives his input in detail, both of them working on the next letter together. but after a while, it starts to make wylan a little sad that he can't really have his own say without having to dictate to jesper first, because he just wants to be able to communicate with his friends like they all do with each other and he feels stupid for even thinking it, but he feels so left out. so he stops giving as much detail, slowly taking himself out of the letters. he's not sure anyone notices
then, one day, two envelopes come together, with the same handwriting on both. one is addressed to both jesper and wylan, but the other is just for wylan. wylan is dubious (so is jesper, who briefly worries that it's jan van cunt, but wylan assures that's not his handwriting) but takes it to his room. the letter is essentially a comic of shittily drawn stick men depicting a heist. it's rushed and the stick men aren't exactly detailed, but wylan understands the story completely. right at the bottom, as a little stick figure with a hat and cane and little black dots for hands
since then, wylan and kaz draw little comics of stick men for each other. it's their way of discussing what's happening in their lives. wylan's ate much more detailed - he has more time on his hands than kaz, and a lot more drawing skills - and kaz's are scratchy and short, but it's their form of communication. wylan can tell kaz about things without having to dictate them to jesper first - not that he hates telling jesper what to write, but he finds it nice to have that autonomy in communicating with his friend
eventually, kaz tells inej, who tells nina (kaz is not telling nina, because she'll acuse him of being soft) (he is), and they also hop onto this idea. soon enough, wylan is sending his little stick man comics in with jesper's letter, telling his friends about his life by himself

actually i think Inej is the first person Wylan tells about his father trying to kill him. i think in the weeks after ck before Inej leaves there’s an evening when Jesper is gone and it’s just Wylan and Inej, and they sit and talk. and i think Inej tells him about Van Eck almost breaking her legs and confesses that she wasn’t sure Kaz would save her if he had. i think Wylan tells her that she didn’t see what Kaz was like, and that even if he hadn’t wanted to save her Jesper and Nina and Matthias and him would’ve come up with something to get her out. i think Inej tells Wylan his father is awful and he apologizes and she tells him to never apologize for something someone else did. i think she tells him the Suli phrase for sorry and reminds him that he can’t promise an action he isn’t responsible for will have no echo. i think she says she can’t imagine growing up with someone like that and Wylan admits, with tears in his eyes, that Van Eck tried to kill him. i think Inej hugs him and tells him he deserved better and Wylan cries and he thanks her. i think they talk about Inej’s plan to sail and kill slavers and Wylan swears that he’ll help her however she needs. i think they talk and talk and talk and talk, and Jesper comes home to them curled up on the couch together, fast asleep.
