“Shade!! If my memory is serving me right…”
Yuzu catches the older lady full of wisdom in the middle of the monastery’s exterior, with rather ordinary weather in spite of the changing seasons. The ordinariness of it all makes the student feel like the professor has been with them here for much longer than she truly has. Perhaps it is simply…the past speaking, memories of three girls from neighboring countries needing to fight wherever the wind blows them next.
Oh, but this is Shade’s special day, not Emma’s. The samurai shakes her head as she continues her miniature speech, not before revealing a small cloth satchel from her pockets.
“The inability to select anything for your date of birth was troubling me for days. But then a visit to a sweets shop in town reminded me of a flavor…of oranges.”
Yuzu unravels the cloth slightly to reveal the circular contents that previously stuck to the bag’s edges. Inside were a small handful of candies of colors varying between yellow and orange. While balancing them all from falling, she reaches out to offer a dark orange one to the mage.
“Aye. They harbor a mix of sweet and sour, but are savory all the same. I felt that you would find more use of them than I…just as with the oranges from our past.”
She leans in slightly more toward Shade, a smile on her face now that the presentation to her teacher has passed.
“May today shine more blessings upon you, Shade.”
"Yuzu. Hello there. I-" But Shade is immediately cut off and caught off-guard with what the Hoshidan presents. A present from Yuzu is not so strange in and of itself; it's been far from the first time that she's been lovingly gifted baffling curisine or more often, training weights. But it's clear that for once, Yuzu has had Shade in mind all along, and she's touched with the girl's intentions.
She accepts the candies into outstretched palms, a lock of shock still stuck on her pale face. "Well, I... I hardly..." Her words come back slowly, until an authentic Shade smile parks itself.
"Well, I'm delighted, Yuzu! Thank you." After a beat, she pops the dark orange sweet into her mouth. Orange flavouring wakes up old tastebuds, reminder her of more normal days... It's a bit too sweet for her liking, but perhaps Yuzu, and Emma, could help her whittle it down. She chuckles to herself, then winks at the girl. "At least you didn't try making them yourself. But who knows, maybe you should give it a try?"
Now's not really the time for teasing, but she can't help being herself, hm?
