Thematically Babylon Berlin exemplifies noir because it’s set in the perfect period for it, since the core theme to all noir is that misery is inescapable the Weimar Era encapsulates the extravagance of wealth and corruption that’s locked itself into becoming one of the greatest evils in the last century
Watching the show as an American and seeing history repeating itself is not only horrifying but add to that the other seminal piece of noir, the corrupting power of exuberant wealth and indifferent or out right immoral authorities, and it makes watching that much more enjoyable/terrifying
