Authority (Southern Reach series) is truly just. bureaucracy gothic lmao. What if your workplace office water cooler contained a full ecosystem including plants and a decomposing mouse. What if your file system was full of cryptic messages and seemed to be growing organically by itself. What if the unreliability of the senses was encoded in every moment of every interaction in every phone call and meeting and hallway chat. What if your senior executives were running highly personal agendas within the guise of a unified company purpose, and in fact any mission statements are funhouse mirrors which are not entirely untrue and yet malleable beyond recognition. What if everyone was constantly trying to manipulate each other while being manipulated. What if your identity was depersonalized to your role and yet each person is also bringing with them an immense amount of personal baggage into everything they do. It is just a Tuesday
