They also had a different model that could also self destruct but they make you install an app to do so

the "only 50% of dutch people wash their hands" statistic brings with it an interesting social dynamic. See, 50% of the population is an amount that's just big enough to the point where you don't want to be caught *not* washing your hands.

When I worked in a large office, the bathroom had two toilets and one sink. The bathroom was very small so people usually waited outside of the bathroom if there was a line. Unless the two people on the toilet happened to finish at the same time or a person washing their hands gets walked in on by someone going to the toilet, your toilet break was completely anonymous. Even so, the sound of footsteps and the faucet being turned on were still very audible to someone sitting on the toilet and I did notice only about half of people washed their hands.

But this is where the interesting bit happens. Whenever a group of Dutch people is observed by several bystanders, the amount of us that washes our hands raises to almost 100%. There are many instances of bathrooms where the bathroom sink is observable by people waiting in line to use the toilet. Either because the door is open, people wait inside of the bathroom instead of outside, etc. and pretty much everyone washes their hands without fail. This means that everyone knows that they should wash their hands but half of us only do so under supervision.

Are we affected by a muddy germanic peasant yearning to break free unless acted upon by an external force? Or are Dutch people affected by the Observer Effect from quantum mechanics? Who knows..
