She was mildly surprised at how well the name rolled off her tongue, although she really shouldn’t be. Many dishes she made had french names, so she was used to the language on a basic level.

"..." He pondered over her question while he watched her. "We'll see."
"Then that makes us friends. You get to hear how funny I am now." He smirked a bit at his comment.
"You’re funny?" She shot back, teasing. Her smile had returned.
"Of course I am. My sense of humor is one of the best there is." He was happy she'd returned to normal.
"Don’t talk back to me. Friends is better than not talking at all, isn’t it? Be grateful I suggested it in the first place." He walked towards her at a leisurely pace, closing the gap that was created between them.
She took a nervous step back, worried he was going to hit her again.
"Y-yes, sir…I’d much rather we be friends than hate each other."
"Then that makes us friends. You get to hear how funny I am now." He smirked a bit at his comment.
"That…Was what I was aiming for originally, but you started walking away." He stated.
"You said you didn’t want to be friends, sir." Karin reminded him, exasperatedly. She appeared to be emerging from her funk, at least.
"Don't talk back to me. Friends is better than not talking at all, isn't it? Be grateful I suggested it in the first place." He walked towards her at a leisurely pace, closing the gap that was created between them.
He put on hand on his hip and the other rested on his cheek. He didn’t like this. It wasn’t as bad as seeing someone die right in front of you, but he felt like he should do something.
"What do you want me to do? Leave you alone?" He wasn’t very experienced when it came to things like these, and it was one of the first times where he had no idea of what he should do.
"No."
She sighed, annoyed. If anything, that was coming back.
"Why can’t we just be friends?"
"That...Was what I was aiming for originally, but you started walking away." He stated.
She stood her ground, staring directly into his eyes with dull ones of her own. Karin refused, absolutely refused to let him know how badly being rejected like that hurt her. She hadn’t even said anything offensive, or creepy. She’d only wanted to be friends with him. If anything more came of it…so be it. But there was no chance of that now.
"Yes, sir." She murmured, meeting his eyes, but not really seeing him.
He sighed and rubbed his eyes with his hands. What was he supposed to do? He didn’t like her like that.
"Look, just call me Rivaille, alright? Now get a hold of yourself. This - whatever you’re feeling - is most likely just a crush, and they’ll go away sooner or later. You have to understand why I did not accept your feelings for me."
"I understand. Sir."
She pointed at him, then at herself. “Corporal, baker. ‘Old’-" She managed to not roll her eyes at the word. “Young."
Pointing at him one last time, her mask cracked just enough for a hint of hurt to show in her eyes.

She points at herself, turning to walk away again.

"The park.. would be nice.. I-If you don’t mind, that is..!" Rue exclaimed. The park was where she would usually go when she had the time to even take walks.
"The park...?" He tried to remember where it was, but he couldn't. He was usually away memorizing the locations of landmarks on the outside.
"Sounds alright. Lead the way, I don't know where it is." He stood up straight, like he was on duty. It was a habit, really.
"And I never fucking said that I even HAD any feelings! You just assumed that for yourself, you stupid, egotistical c-cocksucker!" Her face flushing angrily, “Go back to your army. There’s no point in talking to me; apparently, I’ve just been a bother to you this entire time."
