trying to finish «Pan Tadeusz»... for the third time.
i don't get why it's so hard. the plot is interesting, the characters are vibrant... they say that the translation i'm reading from is not a good one (and maybe that's the true cause of my problems), but i don't have any other options.
«Syzyfowe Prace»: A tiny, weirdly personal review
two days ago, i had my final exam, which opened many opportunities for me to start reading books i've wanted to read for a long time. i decided to start with Stefan Żeromski's novels because i particularly like his writing style as it invokes so many deep emotions through metaphors and different references.
the plot of «Syzyfowe Prace» follows the transformation of Marcin Borowicz, a young boy from impoverished nobility. the book is heavily centered on Marcin's school life and his relationships with his teachers as his friends (one of which is Andrzej Radek, a son of a peasant) struggle to rediscover their national identity. this book is inspired by Żeromski's experience of studying in a similar institution.
it was an exceptional read. this novel, although quite short (i suppose that Żeromski could've dived deeper into some subjects that were described a bit superficially, like the character of Biruta, for example) encompasses so many great topics and provokes so many possible discussions.
the moment that stood out the most to me was the recitation of the poem «Reduta Ordona» (Ordon's Redoubt) by one of the students, as it is one of the most important parts of the book.
and honestly, it was a bit strange to read about the young men struggling with the same History stuff that i struggled to with when i was preparing for for my exam. weird things happen
Caucasian backrooms but i can't draw
excuse me i have to AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
DZIADY 1968
(this is one of my first edits. it is not perfect, but i'm really happy with the result (even tho i intentionally misinterpreted the lyrics). the photos of this theatrical production are outstanding and exceptionally eerie. I wonder what it was like to watch it live)

currently searching for references for an outfit for an important event with the gnawing realisation that though i've always admired people who dress alternatively... i won't be able to dress like that in the near future. kinda sad ngl

Jane Eyre (2006) as text posts: pt. 6/?
today i've spontaneously read "Wierna rzeka". I wanted to read it as the summary claimed that it was set during the January Uprising (which is an interesting subject for me). even though that I expected the book to lean more on the historical aspect rather than the themes of romantic love, i'm feeling pretty impressed and even a bit bitter because of the ending — i happen to posses other books by Stefan Żeromski, so i'll try to read "Syzyfowe prace" and "Popioły" after my amazing and cool and spectacular exams which will certainly not drain all the life from me 🎉
