One reaction I didn’t expect to see to Beyoncé’s stunning Grammy performance were people talking down on her for celebrating her pregnancy. Claiming that Beyoncé is arrogant and prideful because she is showing off her belly and being open with her pregnancy just tells me that in your eyes that black women will never be good enough. That’s bullshit.
Seeing how happy Beyoncé is while pregnant empowers and uplifts so many black women who have struggled because we rarely see such positive images of black motherhood. So Beyoncé being extra AF is the very least we deserve and an affirmation for black women reclaim to their bodies and reproductive rights.
“Black women deserve to be just as corny with their pregnancies. Black women should be allowed to drape themselves in gold and yellow fabric and pose with their mother and child looking regal. They deserve to embody their pregnancy as boldly as they want because CARRYING LIFE IN YOUR BODY IS LITERAL BLACK GIRL MAGIC.”
