█ ▌ When angels fall from the night sky || Raiden & Paula
Non-organic lungs hoisted and slanted when they breathed in the tasteless tang of night, hauyne irids directed towards the great crossroads they were heading to now with constant steps. Normally, Raiden would prefer a few narrow alleys and sealed off streets over the public civic center and footpaths, even if they’d take up a whole lot more time to reach certain settled destinations. This time, however, he’d make an exception. Solely for her sake and the unspoken wish to get over with this deal as soon as possible. With a heart that felt as real as any other would, he certainly couldn’t just look away and leave her to her miserable and lost fate. People would take advantage of her position, her confusion and disorientation, fool her with dishonesty for the sake of their own sick [ amusement ] and lure her into the lion’s cage where she, for sure, would not find a way out all too soon again. With too much blood and misdeeds sticking to his hands like a never fading pest, he knew he’s not the greatest of heroes people would recognize from their movies and comic books or even look up to, he’d buried that thought a long time ago. However, giving her at least a small shine of security and promise her guidance until she’s far away from the public danger was still something he felt like doing. And it’s all he could offer for the moment anyway.
The flickering lights of nearby street lamps were illuminating the asphalt with a dismal glow, marble emerging like attrite wood amidst the cast flow of shadows. This city was a beast at night; cruel and ruthless to those who dare to wander aimlessly and hesitant in the dark, these darkened alleys equipped with eyes and ears as sharp as razor blades to be always up to date and properly informed about what’s going on and especially [ who’s ] gonna come along. And this was one of the few reasons why Raiden had decided to take the public center. It’d be a whole lot safer this way. No troubles, no intermissions. Just the way he liked his ‘escorts’. It’s certainly not the first time he did work like this after joining Maverick, that’s for sure.
Hearing those skinny feet abating upon the cold concrete, however, caused him too to stand still, silver-haired head turning in a smooth motion to throw a glimpse sidewards and where she was standing. All cuddled and wrapped up in his jacket like a frozen to the marrow-puppy, she uttered her plea, careful and slowly, yet determined. To his apartment? This late? Not that he’d seriously consider to profit from that, not even closely, but it still had a strange taste to it when he pondered the idea over and over a few times within the back of his shallow mind, ashen brows drawn together stern. Why would she want that? What’s the difference of being at a Police Station or his apartment at the bottom line? Seizing the sense behind her words and intentions and draw conclusions out of them was a hopeless endeavour right now so maybe, he should just … accept it and agree. Taking a stranger, a grown, half-naked woman to his place, however, still felt incredibly wiggy. If not to say, [ wrong ]
A slant sigh is present as it left his pale lips like a cloud of vacillation when his foothold shifted sidewards silently, the swift breeze dying along with his words that followed to her questionable resolution like they’d cut through the eeriness of an endless Night.
❝ To my … apartment? Why would that be a feasible solution regarding your little memory problem? Is there something s p e c i f i c that’d jog your head and memory a little or what’s the big idea? ❞ , echoed his voice in raspy low volumes, gloved forefinger tipping against his own skull emblematical. He’d like to hear her answer first before leaping to any conclusions.
She walked alongside the man, silently, but entirely thoughtless. There was absolutely nothing on her mind but an endless seeming void, a hole that'd normally frantically search for answers, just /anything/ that could rudimentarily explain what has happened to her before she got here and fill in the blanks. But she couldn't, her senses were dead, not even the cold seemed to bother her any longer. Maybe she'd grown too tired to feel or think anything right now. All she wanted was to go somewhere safe and rest rightfully, even if it's just for a few hours. Her body urgently needed it. And thankfully, this man had changed his mind about leading her to one of the closest police stations he could possibly find and now intended to bring her to his own home. Well, actually, it was rather her convincing him to do it than him proposing the idea but did that really matter? To her, it didn't. And it seemed like she displayed this non-caring attitude quite well right now. She didn't even feel like answering his question, struggled against her drowsiness, however, and formed something that's close to a decent sentence -- eyes falling shut briefly.
"I don't know. We'll see, maybe. Just... take me there, okay? I need some rest..."
