"i don't ask, i gently suggest." because, for some damn reason as well as several obvious ones, nahla always had to argue against stella; always poised for a fight, easily lost in her own stubbornness and the denial that came with it. it provided a distraction, too, and helped stop her from getting lost in thought of stella's teeth against and in her skin. she wouldn't give her the satisfaction, even if the older woman wasn't a mind reader. her brows arched at what she felt was the nerve. "and get left on read or sent to voicemail? i'll pass, thanks." she countered stella's step forward with one back, but only to move out of the way to let her inside in a silent invitation.

“explain to me how the fuck that’s not the same thing. in any case, you know what a needy girl you can be.” stella rolled her eyes so hard, she was certain they’d fall into the floor with a splat. it would have been more of a slight bounce, but that was hardly the point. she wasn’t even sure she had one anymore, that’s just how things went with nahla. the woman inspired something adolescent, generally immature in her. “you never know – i might have gotten cliche and drunk called you back.” she handled things more directly, texting was for losers. with her brows arched, she stepped inside; kicked off her shoes and looked around. there was an instant swell in her chest, this place had become a second home to her. whether she showed up uninvited 9 times out of 10 was irrelevant. “i did almost call,” she confessed, voice quieter than usual. “had google do it for me and everything, but then...” a bitter laugh pushed past her lips. “i can’t get you out of my fucking head and it’s driving me fucking insane. i fucking hate it.” that probably drove in her point and why she hadn’t called. "makes me want to blow my brains out to be quite honest."
