Pasteups in NYC pointing to the various political and structural forces that led to the murder murder of 30-year old homeless black man Jordan Neely 2 months ago, by a white ex-marine named Daniel Penny.

On the NYC subway on May 1, 2023, Jordan Neely started telling passengers that he was fed up being hungry, thirsty and having no place to rest. He began to shout in his frustration, and threw his jacket on the floor.

An ex-marine then choked Neely to death while two other passengers helped.

@saudadiste7: Very very scary that Neely's sickle cell trait was used by Penny's defense that he would have died anyway, unclear if the trait was even expressed, if you have "the wrong genes" they can straight up kill you and say it was God's will. I'm late for work, this floored me

An autopsy by the city’s medical examiner’s office found that Garner died as a result of compression of the neck and body, and cited his history of asthma, heart disease, and obesity as contributing factors. The office ruled the death a homicide, which simply means the killing of one person by another. The question that the grand jury faced was whether this was a lawful killing. After its decision was announced, Pantaleo issued a statement in which he said, “I became a police officer to help people and to protect those who can’t protect themselves. It is never my intention to harm anyone and I feel very bad about the death of Mr. Garner.”

i must believe it seems it is what convinced the jury it wasn't an unlawful killing and rather a tragedy where the police could not be at fault because how could they possibly know? it doesn't matter that force wasn't even needed, what matters is that the officer had a right to use it, what was contested was if he was at fault for that force killing someone who couldn't withstand it, they concluded eric garner was at fault for his own death, the right to violence is not only protected, any excess is simply seen as natural to the order of things because he was had three conditions predisposing his death.

So the thing about sickle cell trait is that it is not particularly damaging UNLESS the body is put into a state of low oxygen, at which point normal red blood cells can lose elasticity and become sickle cells. Which is even more horrifying! Jordan Neely should not have had to worry about this unless he was like climbing a mountain. Until this racist fuck put Mr Neely in a chokehold, his sickle cell trait would have had little to no impact on his life. Using the trait as an excuse to say the guy’s innocent is such a blatant falsehood, I want to vomit.
