* The fish girl came stumbling through the dark. She recognized… science-y stuff. Science-y stuff meant nerd stuff. Nerd stuff meant the cute nerd!
“ Alphys? ...Alphys!? Pfft… I’m… lost in your lab somehow? Did you invent a teleporter or something ‘cause I don’t even know how I… ”
* She trailed off. How DID she get here? What was she even doing before?
She was so close. She could feel it in her bones. Just a few more experiments with her little test subjects and surely she’d have the research and evidence needed to present to Asgore. Down in the dark depths of her lab, the scientist worked in solitude, preparing her reagents for her next test run.
That was when she’d heard something she hoped she’d never have to hear.
“Alphys?”
That voice… that was Undyne’s voice!
Dropping everything she was working on, she sprinted off as fast as her short legs would carry her. Down the corridors she followed the voice. She had to find Undyne before they did…
Turning one last corner, Alphys finally spotted the fish wandering aimlessly in the dark. She didn’t wait to see if Undyne had spotted her in the dark, instead running straight up to her and grabbing for her hand.
“Undyne! What are you doing down here?!” She called in a breathlessly hushed voice. It was sharp, yet it held a hint of worry to its tone. “You need to leave. Now!”
* Undyne had fairly good vision in the dark, but even she couldn’t quite make out what was coming towards her in the corner of her one eye. It was only when she felt a familiar grip in her hand did she relax, even smile, before growing confused at the other’s urgency.
“ Oh! Alphys hey, I-- ...Down here? Where even IS here? Alphys, wait, wait-- is something wrong? ”
* Undyne stopped to turn the urgency back on her, taking her other hand and trying her best to see any upset in the small lizard’s face through the murk of the dark, but she could hardly even notice she didn’t even look like her usual self.
“ If something’s wrong-- I can help you, you just... have to tell me what’s going on here. ”
