Hello! Current status is tired! I’ve been doing school remotely since COVID hit and usually have screen fatigue by the time I’m done with classes, so fic writing and tumblr have sort of fallen by the wayside, but I have not forgotten about this blog or this fandom!

In 2016, over 75,000 mail-in ballots were left uncounted and discarded because they were received after mail-in voting deadlines, which all vary by state, according to CBS news.
Some states like California allow you to check with the Registrar of Voters on-line to verify both if a ballot has issued and if it was received to help prevent voting errors.
Remember, the most common forms of voter fraud are 1) gerrymandering, 2) voter suppression and 3) foreign participation through both lobbying and online misinformation.

please please please everyone who can vote make sure you’re registered and check when your ballot needs to be in. they are deliberately slowing things down so be careful and cautious about this, play it safe.
it’s kind of established that there is no “get out of a beatdown” role you can take other than being a cop yourself, right? media, medics, lawyers, all fair game.
Turns out that cops are just dudes who really like beating the shit out of defenceless people. There’s really no other qualification.
For those who hate lawyers I do want to point out that legal observers are sent by the National Lawyer’s Guild, which is the primary organization providing pro-bono legal defense to protesters and black community leaders who have been jailed to try to derail the movement. So, these are not the lawyers you hate.
Just to reiterate: the entire point of NLG legal observers is to deter unlawful or improper behavior on the part of the police / law enforcement personnel–and to document such behavior, if they aren’t successful in deterring it. In the U.S., they have to be trained and certified. Their job is to help you protest to the full extent of your constitutional rights and with minimal interaction with the criminal justice system. I cannot stress the extent to which they are on your side.
The National Lawyer’s Guild’s motto is “human rights over property interests” and was created as a direct fuck you to conservative and exclusionary bar associations. Their dues are way cheaper than other bar associations and you can join even as a jailhouse lawyer (a prisoner who teaches themselves the law to advocate for others).
And just because this is literally my job: your negative perception of lawyers is literally propaganda. The portrayal of defense attorneys as evil for defending criminals, the idea that suing people is something only rich or very greedy people do, the complete erasure of legal aid as a thing that exists, are all designed to make you afraid to advocate for your legal rights.
election day should be a few days even before that, just to be safe. Never assume your deadlines are to the day.
I’ve seen mentioned that you should be able to drop off a mail-in ballot at a voting site if the mail system is further ruined by then than it already is. it’s a good thing to look into because while it’s not as safe as mailing, it can still cut down on time spent in public and around vectors if you’re not standing in line or dealing with the machines everyone has already touched.
For the primary election, Maryland had drop boxes at the board of elections offices. There was very little publication about it, so check directly on your local board of elections website for more information.

How’s life been treating you lately
I’ve been social distancing with my mother and my nana. Every night at 7 pm we watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. At 8 pm, we finish cleaning the kitchen from dinner, then play cards or dominos and take turns picking the music. Every night that it’s my turn, I pick Abba. Last night, my mother commented that it felt like the movie Groundhog Day. I tried to explain the logic behind my time-loop code to them. My nana begged me to stop.
Also I haven’t done any of my readings for school for the past month and finals are in two weeks.
Also I decided that I was going to rewrite Perigean Spring after all, so. There’s something to look forward to.

So I know literally no one wants to hear from me when I don’t have any news on updates, which I don’t because. Well, the world is a hellscape right now and school was already horrible and now it’s worse because it’s all online and I am Bad At That, BUT.
I had a really exciting moment today. For those of you who remember when I said this maybe a million years ago, my initial plan was for Perigean Spring to turn into a series that vaguely followed the same plot-points as the Saga, at least through Eclipse. And of course, that became difficult as I started to realize that Jasper and Alice are very, very different from Edward and Bella, and their motivations and actions wouldn’t lead them to the same places.
Now, when I was a pre-teen reading New Moon for the first time, it seemed perfectly logical to me that Edward would go to the Volturi and ask to die when he thought Bella was dead. Healthy stuff, right? (I like the series, I’m allowed to rib on it a little.) But I don’t think Jasper and Alice, certainly not the Jasper and Alice I write, would be actively suicidal in the same situation.
So this posed an issue for me. I still want to introduce the Volturi into PS, but I couldn’t think of a way to do it that either didn’t blatantly rip off New Moon, or just completely distort the Jasper and Alice I’ve been writing. And then, today, I figured it out.
Those of you who have read this far might be expecting me to say what I figured out, and I’m sorry, I’m not going to spoil it, even though I may not get to it for another 10-15 years. (That’s an exaggeration. Probably.) But if you’ve been following me for a while, you might have seen some of my posts about losing motivation to write, and trying to get back into it, and it was just a really, really nice moment to have that same spark of inspiration, where I untangled a messy plot into something I could use, that I haven’t had in a very long time.

I was genuinely shocked when I realized it’s been over two years since I’ve updated Perigean Spring. It never felt that long to me, but then again, a lot has changed for me over these two years. I won’t go into all of it, but I’ll tell you that the UT of late 2017 would never have imagined she’d be where the UT of early 2020 is. Some of the changes have been good, some bad, but overall, I’m really sad I haven’t kept up with writing, when it used to be something that made me so happy.
Over the past few years, I’ve become very critical of the first couple chapters of Perigean Spring. I started writing them in 2013. I added to them like they were loosely-related drabbles, and didn’t have a plot in mind, then never did a cohesive edit or rewrite when I decided to start posting them. For a while, this has been holding me back. I’ve felt kind of discouraged by them, and while I like the idea of going back and fixing them, I’m not sure that I have the mental energy to do that, given the everything else going on in my life.
For a long time, I let that idea, that I should fix the start before I kept writing any more, serve as sort of a block. It felt like a good idea, but really it was an excuse to not put time into newer chapters. The thing is, though, I really, really liked writing Perigean Spring. Even if the beginning isn’t the most solid. So I’m going to do my best to let go of that insecurity, and instead focus back on the fact that even if it’s not the most perfect piece that I could pull together, writing and telling a story that makes me happy takes precedence over fine-tuning every sentence of chapters I’ve already published.
I really want to write in a way that makes me happy again, and I’m going to do my best to do more of that in 2020. I’m not discarding the idea of going back and editing some parts of the earlier chapters entirely, but I’m going to try to put it on the backburner while I remember how to just sit down and enjoy writing.
For some garbage reason, tumblr won’t let me reply directly to your post. But I am OBSESSED with Perigean Spring, and I am always excited for more of your writing. But writing - especially fic - should always be fun, so do what makes you happy <3 Just don’t fall into my trap of endlessly editing the same eight chapters for five years, or you will go completely insane. ;)
@goldeneyedgirl I cannot describe how happy it just made me to see one of my favorite Jalice writers call herself obsessed with my fic. Thank you so much for the encouragement. And don’t worry about me endlessly editing. Of my many pitfalls as a writer, too much editing has never been my biggest issue, if you know what I mean.

Surprisingly enough, I’m getting better every day. And I think that’s all I can ask for right now. Thank you for checking in.
I don't know where you've been or what happened to you. I just wanted to let you know that you are fantastic and an amazingly skilled writer. I hope that wherever you are, you have found happiness. Your work will always remain as one of my favorites, and if you ever decide to come back and post again, you'll always have readers.
This has been in my inbox for a very long time, and although I didn’t respond when I wasn’t sure I’d be returning to this blog, it really meant a lot to me to see. Thank you so much for your kindness. Knowing that there are people out there who still enjoy my writing just makes me feel so incredibly grateful for this wonderful fandom, and I hope the coming chapters continue to live up to your praise.
