still caught up on collin graf’s genuinely horrible luck i constantly feel bad for him

a talented, determined little kid, but he started later than his peers so he was at a disadvantage. a talented, determined young boy, but he was undersized so he was at a disadvantage.

couldn’t go to a boston school even though he wanted to because they didn’t want him. couldn’t get drafted even though he wanted to because they didn’t want him. noted as always being a serious kid because he had to sacrifice everything else about himself to work for what he wanted.

a large part of the reason he chose san jose was because of the opportunity available for him, but after his signing the sharks get a handful of shinier new young talents who did get drafted, so he has to work harder than everyone else just to belong all over again. a smaller part of the reason he chose sj was because he had a friend in henry thrun who really wanted him to sign with sj, and he did, and they were so close, but thrun got traded away.

and he was back and forth between the nhl and the ahl in his first full season in professional hockey. and in his second season they finally saw him as a full-time nhl player, but he was still getting constantly overlooked. and he still didn’t really seem close with his teammates.

he finally finds another friend who he played with when he was young in vincent iorio, just like thrun, but oreo gets put on waivers and claimed by a team on the other side of the country.

also his teammates injure him. also people want to trade him for darnell nurse. also the sharks have yet to extend his contract on a roster overflowing of forwards. also no one cares about him outside of being an extension to willmack

i know we’ve pretty much all seen by now graf has family cats named flame and hat trick. and we’ve confirmed that ekygraf are 100% cat dads. my take is that they end up with maybe 2:

one that they adopted from a shelter. she attached herself to graf so eky was like “that one” and graf was so happy that was the cat eky wanted because that was the cat HE wanted (eky wanted the cat because he knew she was a perfect fit for graf). something something about this being a cat that mirrors graf’s fight to find a home or something.

another one that eky like randomly found and decided to bring home. he’s tentatively like “i found something on my walk today…” but he’s not that scared of graf’s potential reaction because the joy on graf’s face will be eky’s favorite part of the whole experience. and it is. and graf is like “if this is a joke, william eklund, i’ll kill you. *cat1* needs a friend please can we keep him” and eky’s thinking like “in what world would i play around with making collin graf happy.”

funny if the cat that loves graf BEEFS with eky. but he’s not *seriously upset over it. graf loves that cat so much and that cat loves graf so much. but he'll act like it annoys him. like bonus if the cat always steals eky’s spot next to graf so they can’t cuddle. and graf will smile and giggle and eky will be like “you’re lucky i fucking love you because this cat is stealing my boyfriend.” or if eky and graf are already cuddling together the cat will start repeatedly meowing asking to be fed or something. but she’ll only let graf feed her of course. she bites eky when eky tries to feed her. he thinks he’s angry about it until he sees the look in graf’s eyes

cat2 is the menace gremlin cat they’re both fond of. except, when he acts up graf will be like “you brought him home you discipline him.” and eky will be like “look at his face he’s an angel:((“ and graf will roll his eyes but cave because. yes. their cats are angels and they can do no wrong.

ekygraf has skyrocketed recently omg wtf. everyone’s in my house and i’m so happysbdbfh i prayed for times like these!! especially right now more than ever i feel like ekygraf hits so fucking good, with everyone saying either/both of them should be traded💔 these guys really have always gone and still go through so much and can never catch a break. i love the idea of them finally catching a break with each other

they have similar paths of constant struggle, perseverance, and dedication to get to where they are but it’s not exactly parallel. and even after all they’ve gone through, they still suffer so much and do so much for their team, and it gets overlooked. what made me fall in love with them was the concept of them finding this relation in each other. and feeling comfortable enough to put their guards down. and finding solace in each other

collin "needs to be strong and do it all by himself" graf being vulnerable and able to lean on eky for support. william "needs to be fine and there for everyone" eklund being his honest, raw self and in an equal relationship with graf. they take care of each other

we really don't talk enough about Collin Graf giving up that empty net goal in the last game against Nashville so Mack could break Jumbo's record. We really really don't. Because he only beat that record instead of tying it because Graf chose to pass to him instead of getting that goal for himself. The way Mack talked about it in post-game too...he was so shocked Collin did that. shout out Collin Graf for being the sweetest most generous hockey player ever <3

he also gave up an empty net goal for mack in the sharks-habs game on march 14!! i don’t think anyone realized that but it’s really sweet to me how selfless he is when it comes to his teammates (specifically mack/grafbrini)
