Star Wars using this exact formula with droids blows my mind to this day. Like, they really can’t decide whether they’re actually an oppressed group or genuinely mindless automatons whose inner lives we don’t need to worry about.

Given that Solo: A Star Wars Story features a droid liberation activist who's very obviously characterised as a mean-spirited parody of a women's rights activist and whose concerns are consistently treated as misguided and laughable (before they blow her up and use her brain to repair a spaceship), I'm not sure it's that the writers can't decide so much as it that they don't want to say what they really think out loud.

Meet Kleebo! I’m going to need a Jedi to play for a ttrpg I’m working on with some friends, and I’ve wanted to come up with a Rodian oc forEVER.

He was born somewhere around ~80 BBY. I’m still working on his whole deal, but his two closest friends and clan mates were older than him and both ended up reassigned to two different branches of the Service Corps. He stated in contact with them and was relieved that they both seemed happy and fulfilled. While he dreamed of being a padawan and traveling the galaxy, he was never a top student and didn’t expect to pass his initiate trials.

By the will of the Force (a literal miracle), Bo had a year of academic and athletic improvement and ended up passing his initiate trials, much to the surprise and delight of his instructors. He was chosen as a padawan, but his first mission was a disaster. His new master was badly injured, and, embarrassed and frustrated by how poorly Bo handled the stress, terminated the apprenticeship. I haven’t worked out the details of what actually happened, but another Jedi who was in the same sector came to their aid and transported them back to Coruscant. That Jedi was Thame Cerulian, and he ended up taking Bo on as his apprentice.

ok so like.... one of the main things (among others) that makes me kinda pissed that we didn't see more from the nightbrothers is that scene where icarus is fixing maul's leg because it runs against a lot of maul's tendencies when he was younger. like again there's this bit in lockdown where he gets badly beat up and says:

and then right after he gets into yet another unrealistic crazy deathmatch and is really beating himself up over being weak or whatever. which happens at points throughout wrath as well but i dont feel like trawling thru my annotations for evidence rn so pls take my word for it. but yeah the basic conclusion here is that maul has been "strongly encouraged" not to lean on anyone else for help or to tolerate weakness from himself. so the fact that he's 1) letting someone else fix his leg even tho imo he theoretically could do it himself, 2) expressing pain or discomfort while its happening, and 3) letting someone else watch that (scorn). it implies a huge amount of not just trust but like, active defiance of some of the more toxic mindsets he grew up with. and we never got really any detail on how that happened. anywayyyy that line from lockdown always just makes me so sad cause he's basically like if i can have just 5 seconds to lick my wounds i'll be alright and he doesn't even get that.

the biggest crime of the mandalorian franchise is that it inexplicably made bo-katan good with kids like she didn't spend most of her childhood being groomed in the woods by a terrorist. she's the most poorly adjusted least maternal motherfucker you ever did see. the bo-katan i know would offer a kid a cigarette and start beef with a seven year old no question about it
