I find old books, I buy them, and I scan things from them. Things I like.

I tag the information, the title, the year, sometimes the publisher.

Then I see them on my dash. The original source being somebody else.

No tags, no source. You know who you are. Stop laming up the internets.

There is a consistent attribution problem with artist comments being erased by rebloggers right and left. When someone makes a creative work of art, draws something, paints something, takes a photograph of something, and then writes their thoughts on it, it’s rude and incredibly disrespectful to delete the original artist’s comments.

I am an artist (though I don’t post art on this tumblr), and I have a lot of friends who are also artists. I am saddened when I see our remarks on our works deleted by people who just troll tumblr for material with no care in the world who took the time to create it… and then they deliberately delete the original creator’s comments/credit.

Why on earth would you do that? Stop it. Show some respect. Credit and cite sources properly, please!

When I was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I would get annoyed and bitter when people would talk about the things that bothered them. I would feel it was grossly unfair that I was worrying about being able to walk, or being able to taste food, or being able to function without puking or writhing in pain. My friends would worry about their hobbies, their jobs, their tv shows or games.

Later, this sense of injustice completely passed. I remembered that every problem is a problem to the person experiencing it, no matter how comparatively trivial or how important other people may feel it is.

The disparity in scope of my own problems came back into focus. While I was worrying about whether or not I’d be able to drive myself to work, I was equally (if not MORE) worried about why my cable bill was $10 more than it was supposed to be.

Everyone is entitled to be concerned about their own problems. Everyone is entitled to feel troubled. Everyone is entitled to vent. Though we might judge other people harshly for the things that trouble them, what we need to remember is that everyone’s problems are their own. Without being them, we cannot assume we have a full understanding of the relative importance of other peoples’ troubles.

It’s all about perspective… and everyone is entitled to their perspective.
