          Once again, he’s left to feel pathetic in front of his own people. At least the first time, he’d been told to kneel in the privacy of his office. But now? This is in front of his entire community, out in the middle of the grass. He doesn’t know what to say, and his comments right now wouldn’t be particularly nice to his FRIEND. So to save himself the trouble, he remains silent, just staring up at the other.

We may not be Negan but you’ve seen what we’re capable of. You’re either with us or against us. And you don’t wanna be against us, Gregory.” A brief yet tense silence followed. 

          “By the way, that is how you make a threat.”

          It’s kind of amusing, the threat the other leader makes. He has cards up his sleeve too. “You know Rick, I’ve been gracious enough to allow your people into my humble home. And you repay me by asking my people to die, when they don’t have to? I have a good thing going with the Saviors, we have an understanding. All it would take was one little slip, and then your people are gone. Now I understand they believe dear Maggie is dead. I don’t think you want to find out what happens if they discover you’ve been hiding her here all along.”

          The more and more he went on, the more she just found herself questioning why it was this man who was leading them and how he’d managed to keep such a position for so long. Then again, he was under The Saviors’ thumb, there seemed to be no sort of evidence that he tried to stand up to them. “ Maggie can’t deal with The Saviors personally, because they think she’s dead, you know that. We had to get her to a doctor after what happened, and us letting them know that we’d come here, it only would have linked you to Alexandria. ”  Sasha explained, giving a shake of her head. It was taking a lot to try and keep her temper in check, it wasn’t exactly a secret that she didn’t handle grief well as it was.  “ Wasn’t it you who said we should be a united front? ”  Raised brows asked the question as she tilted her head, almost expectantly at him.  “ Clearly if your people, including your right hand seem to believe in Maggie, then it’s a mostly unanimous feeling. Maybe you should listen to that. ”

          He doesn’t like that she’s right. He had said that, yes, but that was before his people witnessed his true abilities, or lack there of. This place, he founded it, he started it. He took charge when no one else would and now they’re all turning on him. It was a load of bull if you asked him. “The reason we allowed you people in here was because you had leverage. You had stuff, resources that we could use. We had a trade happening, and now? Well it’s pretty clear that has ended. In fact, what’s there to stop me from turning the both of you in? I’m sure the Saviors would reward the Hilltop for the wanted widow.”

       the new world was mostly filled with brave and dangerous people. some were leaders and some were soldiers. there were the rare few who were no brave but still capable of getting those people to support them and getting the soldiers to do some of their work. there were two extremes of that, dwight thought. there was negan, a leader with charm, the cruellest of braveries with skill and strength and then there was gregory. a man with no real strength and the only value was that he had hilltop, a thriving community under his own leadership. how that happened in the first place, dwight had no idea at all.

              “ aren’t you a leader, gregory? what kind of leader asks for advice?                           get control back from your people in the hilltop.                                               we own you but you own them.                                                         show them that. ”  

          Well, that was a lot easier said than done in his situation. He didn’t have the fear factor that Negan or the Saviors did. His people knew he wasn’t really the strongest. He was a business man, and that was quickly becoming a less ideal quality with the new members in this colony. Though despite his lack of interest in Maggie, he still was holding onto the secret for her. Mostly because if he dares speak out, his people will turn on him.

          “I suppose you’re right. Bring the hammer down, as they say. Didn’t want it to have to resort to that but... If I must, I must.”
