Posting this here because if I said this on my TikTok then I’d genuinely get death threats and be doxxed
This is probably gonna sound like an “extreme woke” thing but I feel like most of the hate towards Rotunda is borderline misogynistic or just straight up misogyny
Now, for me, I dislike her character more so for personal reasons, her character just makes me incredibly uncomfortable, but for others it’s always about Betrayus, it’s usually the Betrayus defenders who hate her. Betrayus defenders hate her because she supposedly “neglected” him or “abused” him. In which it could be true, or it could just be another lie from Betrayus, but that’s why they do.
Now, I’m not saying you can’t hate/dislike her, but I feel like hating Rotunda because she supposedly “abused/neglected” him but then turning around and supporting Betrayus and his act of genocide is pretty bad. There’s literally nothing that will justify a literal genocide.
And I don’t know, but I feel like defenders of him try so hard to justify his actions because they don’t want to consciously like a horrible person. You can like a horrible character without supporting their actions.
Anyway, back to Rotunda. I’ve seen some make her homophobic towards Betrayus, or make her down right rotten, when that’s kinda like nothing of how she was in canon. She has some sass to her and she’s like mean once to Betrayus at the end of the episode but he deserved that for possessing her and using her. Now, you could say it’s because he “cares” and “loves” her still and that she did canonically abused him, and I’ll say this, it feels more like he’s justifying to himself that “oh because this happened to me, then I get to do this and that”, he’s pinning the blame on everyone but himself for his actions. Also back to making her homophobic towards her bisexual son, uhm, that feels weird to be honest. It feels like the whole “woman in the way of mlm romance” and just another way to make Betrayus seem more “justified” in his actions because his mother abused him, neglected him, and is homophobic. It feels they’re babying Betrayus by having characters care for him and have him be just seemingly misunderstood and not in the wrong and then have cruel punishments happen to Rotunda because of this and that, that are usually made up but she still for some reasons gets the worst of it while Betrayus gets maybe a slap on the wrist or some “noooo baby you did nothing wrong, the mean old witch is just being a meanie to you again, don’t worry I’ll protect you.” Like people in the fandom want her to suffer, be tortured, or just straight up die, but just be like with Betrayus “yes king! Commit a genocide!”
Bro got like put in a mustard costume every Halloween and maybe got bullied by his brother when he was young but Jesus Christ that was when they were LITTLE, Betrayus might as well be in his late fifties or something when he started the war. Also yes I find it weird they seemed to have a whole racial hierarchy if I recall correctly with the whole title of “Yellow Leaders” that was glazed over and never talked about again, but I doubt Betrayus cared about that shit, he just wanted power and the throne.
Now, people can make AUs of her being like that, and I have too (again personal reasons), if you wanna make Betrayus good or like the trope of “misunderstood villain”, then you gotta make him not commit a literal genocide cause once you do then you legit just can’t make him good. However a lot of people in the fandom seem to try and justify the genocide, EVEN IF IT WAS A RACIAL HIERARCHY like others speculate there was, IT’S STILL A GENOCIDE AND STILL A VERY HORRIBLE THING TO TRY AND JUSTIFY.
To be honest this whole thing feels like the “‘mean woman vs mean man” where the man is praised, justified, or glorified and then the woman is wanted dead.
This post isn’t meant to attack anyone but this is just how I feel about how the fandom treats Rotunda.
Sorry if this feels out of place I’m not very good at writing out my thoughts
Idk I’m just kinda getting really frustrated and upset that people are defending this man and making him seem like a misunderstood villain, then throwing all the blame on a female character we see only once.
Conclusion: Betrayus is horrible and should be held accountable and Rotunda shouldn’t be blamed for all of his actions when he made them consciously
