Writers: Just a friendly reminder that creativity is difficult to quantify.

If keeping track of your daily word count or time spent writing motivates you and makes you feel good about your progress, that’s fantastic. By all means keep doing it! But don’t use those measurements against yourself as a way to size up your failure or shortcomings.

Whether you wrote 100 words or 1,000 words today is not an indicator of your worth as a writer or as a person, nor is it an accurate measure of “productivity.”

Some of my best writing days have happened when my actual word count for the day was very low, but I had a revelation while taking a walk that completely changed how I approached the story the next day.

Be nice to yourself, and try to remember to see the myriad ways your creativity is constantly flowing regardless of your word count or the number of hours clocked behind your computer.

Dear Tumblr,

All those posts you see of young artists charging $3, $6, $10 for a drawing because they need help? That’s fucking exploitation, and fuck you if you think it’s reasonable or a “good deal" to pay nickels and dimes to squeeze a full-color original drawing out of some talented, hardworking kid because things are tight, and they can’t afford their textbooks. Or food. They sure as hell can’t afford to make you art for $6.

Instead, stop. And ask them where you can donate. If you can afford a $6 drawing, then you can afford to spend $6 simply to help someone. You don’t need internal organs as payment.

Don’t allow young artists to be exploited.

I’d go one step further and say: Offer to pay them decent Illustration wages instead if you still want a drawing, say around $20/hour. That way not only will you blow their socks off with your kindness and respect for their abilities, but you will also endow them with a sense of worth that they’re probably hurting for after being surrounded by the sort that makes them feel like their services are so worthless.

Illustration is a professional skill requiring years of training and dedication, regardless if there’s a school involved. If you enjoy that artist’s work and want to help them out, either donate like suggested above or else pay them what their work is worth and pass on the word.

And if someone claims something that took you an hour to draw isn’t worth at least around $10 per hour of work, dont listen to their bullying. To the non-artist, its hard to see the worth in art especially if they didn’t put 10, 5, 2 or even 1 years of solid effort to get to the level of artistic ability there are today.

If the person complaining is still unhappy with the price despite that reasoning? Well let THEM make their own drawing themselves and spend the $10 elsewhere. GL to them getting the level of artistry you have without those years of experience they put behind them!

the worst feeling in the world is when something you’ve written, a fic you’ve poured your entire heart and soul into, gets barely any recognition at all. this piece of work that you’ve spent hours upon hours meticulously crafting, creating the perfect sentences and perfect phrases and perfect words to fit the story, adding symbolism and metaphors and hyperbole, giving the perfect diction… writing something that you’ve placed a tiny piece of yourself in- gets liked in passing by some and barely glanced at by others. no reblogs, no comments, no feedback: nothing to help the author improve or spread their works for others to see. it’s an aching stab to the heart, and nothing compares to the feeling of dejection pricking in the writer’s stomach. was their fic not good enough? not full of enough twists and turns? not fluffy enough? not angsty enough? writers and artists produce content not only for themselves but for others to enjoy, and when no one even takes the time to look at it, it’s a painful reminder that we’ve devoted all of our time to something that may never see the light of day again. 

if you see a writer’s fic or an artist’s fanart, please please please take the time to reblog it, and maybe even add a small comment detailing how much you enjoyed it. content creators pour their hearts into making these works for you and others, and it takes so little time to make our day by showing that you appreciate it and providing a chance for others to see it.  what’s more, it gives us motivation to continue writing, to continue drawing, to continue creating. and now, more than ever, in this grim place we call our society, we need a place to share our writing with the world.

so here is what NOT to do if you’re a loyal fan of adobe who has the cash to shell out for a newer and shittier version of the product you already paid for.

1) DON’T use your search bar to find and open the Run app

2) DON’T type in services.msc

3) DON’T find Adobe Genuine Software Integrity Services and right-click to get a dropdown menu, and don’t select ‘properties’

4) if you happen to click properties, DON’T use the startup type dropdown to locate the option to disable the program. be sure you DON’T click apply to finalize that change. 

5) DO NOT do the same thing in order to also disable Adobe Genuine Software Monitor 

if you do all of these things, this WILL disable adobe’s ability to monitor the software, and you will be forced to continue using the same older software that you already paid for instead of having to sign up for a newer, shittier version and pay more for it. so if you have lots of cash to spare and are cool with putting it the pockets of racketeering capitalists, definitely don’t do any of these things. 

however, you SHOULD reblog this to spread the word, as we certainly want to make sure lots of people know what NOT to do :)
