@until-this-moment
im in awe
So.
The Sound of Silence is probably one of my favorite songs ever. When speaking of the “true” Simon and Garfunkel version (as opposed to the version where they added background music to in post to make it more “pop radio”), it’s a song that gives me chills.
Disturbed is not a band that I really enjoy. I remember in college, my (now) wife gave me a copy of a Disturbed CD, because she had two for some reason. I tried to listen to it, I really did. Didn’t do anything for me.
But this? Holy fuck, this is stunning. This is amazing.
This gives me chills.
Holy shit, you have to listen to the whole sing.
I have chills.
Holy SHIT.
This is the band who did “Down With The Sickness”????
UM?????
If you stop before three minutes you’re missing the truly mind-blowing bit
Absolutely beautiful. I had chills.
DUDE!
Ok, it got a reblog out of me there at the end.
Fhdjf DUDE
The vocal range on this guy. THE VOCAL RANGE ON THIS FUCKING GUY.
I fuckin love Disturbed and always loved it when they did covers. This is amazingggg
i fucking love this video and i fucking love david draiman and his voice
Fun fact: Paul Simon loves this cover and sent a letter to David telling him so.
I think the most enticing(?) part of it is how every verse or two, an instrument is added or the existing instruments get a little stronger or the vocalist raises his pitch or intonation just slightly, giving the impression of a constant never-ending crescendo throughout the whole song. Then you reach the actual crescendo near the end and it blows your fucking pants off. God I love this cover so much.
what if you staged a r&j where the audience had two entrances to get to their seats, one marked capulet & one montague and you had to choose one to enter the theatre?? it would be really obvious too like balloons, some of the actors in the house colours cheering by the door, etc, like make it a Big Deal to pick one
so then during the first scene the fight is really drawn out and hyped up and the audience is encouraged to cheer for their house and they’d get really into it like, at a basketball game or whatever. ben and tybs get grand entrances like star players on sports teams. make it seem fun and loud and exciting like a sports event, that kind of hype
and then the prince’s lines “Three civil brawls, bred of an airy word/ By thee, old Capulet, and Montague…” could be aimed at the audience (as well as Lord M and Cap) who’d then feel like they were part of the whole feud like “dang i just heard the prologue and know what all this fighting leads to and yet here i am cheering along with everyone???” (((((i’m in the cabinet i am complicit))))
anyway i feel like it would help highlight how caught up everyone is in the feud, they don’t even know what started it anymore, it’s just mindless hate and the cause of the whole tragedy
and also just how much r&j were going up against like heck they were so brave to reject all of that hate and anger they were so good and so in love
Oh my god, this is brilliant, I love it.
this is a FANTASTIC idea

Where was this in my AP Comp class?!
I think I’ve reblogged this before, but as the new school year approaches I’m doing so again. I’m for SURE using this with my AP Comp class this year!
I’m never going to be the teacher who gets the shout-out at grad...
As most teachers I know, I grew up loving school. I wanted to share that love of school with all of the other kids and I thought that by being a teacher, I would love to be surrounded by similarly academic students. This is not a lie. I do love those academically-driven students; I love my go-getters and my researchers. I love my high-achievers and my eager participants because they make my job so easy. I love them! However … as I have now taught for a couple of years, I’ve realized that my goals have changed from encouraging students to push harder, strive for better grades, explore further … to lending an ear when a kid needs it, to staying in to talk to the problematic student who loves to disrupt my classes. I’ve focussed mainly on my low-achieving students who don’t participate, and who, most likely, (unfortunately for some) won’t go too far in their formal education. I’m not saying this to be cruel, I’m just saying what the trend seems to have been; they are not academically driven and that’s okay. I’ve loved talking about last night’s game and the bad ref calls with students who are often off task and disruptive. I’m now the teacher who playfully teases the smart-ass and puts him in his place, therefore, earning some ‘mad respect’ from him and his classmates. I break into a rap battle just to convince a kid that I’ve got skills and that maybe he should listen to some of the other stuff I say in class, too. I’ve tried to do hip hop. I’ve dabbed, whipped and nae-naed more times than I’d like to admit just to win a bet and get Sally to say something in French. Because making mistakes and fools of ourselves is part of learning. These are not the students who will ever be valedictorian. These are not the class representatives at graduation. These are, however, my most treasured and interesting students. When Jimmy comes to me after class and asks if he did the two (out of 25) questions correctly and asks for help, I scream for joy (internally, of course, because I don’t want to make a big deal or anything). He actually DID a couple of questions! On his OWN! These are my rewards; these students are my all-stars. So I know I may never hear a thank-you up on stage at grad … because the quiet (and sometimes inaudible) “Thanks, Madame” that I get when I give them a cough drop, a spare sheet of paper, a pencil, a yogurt when they have no lunch, a fist bump, a haircut compliment, or a desk change because they can’t focus … is the biggest reward I could ever ask for.
This is why alternative ed is my heart
Yep.
Finally posting the beautiful mug I got from my mug buddy! (I don’t know who you are but it’s cute and perf for an English teacher!!!) Thank you!
And to my mug buddy I have not forgotten you, it’s in the mail!
Which Shakespeare Play Should I See? - Good Tickle-Brain.
Exactly.
Imagine a wall full of circular holes, that circles can keep walking in and out of with no difficulty.
Now imagine that the triangles manage to get the resources together, after years of not being able to fit through the circle’s holes, to drill a single triangle space into the wall.
Now imagine that the circle — who previously supported the triangle’s efforts because they are well-rounded (har) and value equality — comes along and sees the construction project. But instead of being happy, they get angry.
“Well, I won’t be able to fit through your hole!!!!” the circle cries.
“I helped you get the drill!!!!” the circle shrieks.
“Make it fit me too!!!!” the circle demands.
The triangles, barely holding it together enough to get a triangle hole together, stare at the circle in confusion.
“You have all the holes you need,” the triangles explain. “This is for us. You don’t need to fit through our hole, too.”
“YOU’RE BEING UNEQUAL AND HURTING MY FEELINGS!” the circle wails. “I DON’T SUPPORT YOUR HOLE IF IT DOESN’T FIT ME TOO. GIVE ME MY DRILL BACK.”
“It’s not your drill, it’s our drill. You helped us get it, because you said you cared.”
“I ONLY CARED WHEN I THOUGHT YOU’D MAKE A HOLE EVERYONE COULD FIT THROUGH. YOU’RE PERPETUATING INEQUALITY!!!”
“Why is it up to us, the small group that has never been able to fit through the wall at all, to make a hole everyone can use? Why isn’t it up to you, the people who have been able to cross back and forth at will for years? We just want to see the other side; why are you yelling at us?”
“I DIDN’T ASK TO BE BORN A CIRCLE, OMG. I’VE HAD TO WORK HARD ALL MY LIFE TOO. YOU’RE JUST BEING BIGOTED AGAINST ME BECAUSE OF SOMETHING I CAN’T CONTROL, JUST LIKE EVERYONE IS AGAINST YOU.”
“You are interfering with our project and asking us to comfort you while we’re trying to make progress. Please leave.”
“I’m going to tell everyone about this,” the circle warns. “Nobody will support you now.”
“Apparently nobody ever did,” the triangles sigh, getting back to work.
It’s kind of sad
That we have to draw comics using colorful shapes
To explain systematic inequality to people
Reblogging again because yes good
I may be taking the fact that my first student teacher starts tomorrow a little too seriously
I made a welcome packet with information about my schools expectations and procedures, as well as my class procedures and schedule.
At the very least it’s something for her to read on her first day.
As someone who student taught last year with a ton of figure it outs/you can do whatever you wants, nothing is too overwhelming. It would have been nice to be given basic procedures as opposed to me having to ask a million questions, especially since the kids were already set in routines.
@randomloveofthings as a current student teacher, this sounds AMAZING.
I would have loved this too.
Ditto. That would have been AMAZING!
(My univeristy wouldn’t even let us teach in any capacity for the first 2 weeks. We had to strictly observe (and it was frustrating to no end!), and the kids didn’t know what to make of us. It created problems later for some student teachers because the kids had trouble see us as authority figures because we couldn’t be them for the first 2 weeks.)
WOW. That sounds crazy! My senior internship was like that, except my supervising teacher was more than happy to let me take over, so I was planning and teaching by the start of week two.
I’m glad it happened that way, but it was totally overwhelming at first.
I didn’t actually teach until 2-4 weeks in (I took over one prep for a few weeks before I added the second), but I was working one on one with kids and leading small activities (do nows, homework reviews, etc) so the kids got used to me and respected me. I think I sat and observed without interaction maybe my first day (which I spent learning their names, which really freaked them out when I knew them all by the thirdish day).
i downloaded this god damn episode just so everyone could watch this fukkin clip
The feedback bit is inspired.
Accurate.
