cageblade but it's sonya, a known workaholic and efficient soldier, covered in dirt and blood when she gets to base, and john is there waiting, a bright smile on his face as he sees her-- and sonya feels disgusting, covered in grime, sticky and dusty and feeling like she's in a foreign skin, but john smiles all the same...

"you still see me, under all of this?" are her first words to him, and she sees his stupid smirk and his effortless head tilt and his open arms.

"how could i see anyone else, sunshine?" and she's stunned, because there wasnt a second of hesitation. not a moment where john doubts her, where he questions her, where he questions and doubts them. and after years and years of hearing countless partners tell her that she's unrecognizable when it comes to her work, that they dont know who she is anymore after a rough mission, that they just dont know what to do when her job and life are difficult and force her down. and she's so relieved.

it's a weight off of her shoulders that john doesnt question, doesnt doubt, doesnt flounder under the pressure of her coming home battered and bruised and bloody. and she's grateful that even covered in blood, and dust, and dirt, and unknown grime of every kind, he still opens his arms and welcomes her home with a hug and the offer of a nice, hot shower, food if she's hungry, a movie is she's restless, sleep if she's tired; he does it all, and she just cant help but let him after her work is all said and done, because he tells her every time she comes home that she deserves it.

last time i posted was november 2025 lmaooo so heres some mk headcannons ive thought of during my accidental hiatus:

before reading: all of the original earthrealm champions (ex. battle of the realms or mk9) have children and there was a time merger similar to mk11 but its them all meeting their children, not their future selves

- jacqui and jax instantly click, no doubt about that. she is literally him as a girl lol. they bond over mechanics, their farm and martial arts

- it takes sonya a while to figure out why her daughter only somewhat acted like her until she learned that cassie wasn’t only her daughter, but johnny’s too. besides the discomfort from that idea (which she’d eventually get used to), sonya realizes that she sees alot of herself in cassie and puts her pride aside

- liu kang and kitana are two very proud parents. their daughter is a reserved high school valedictorian and lacrosse captain who also fights in the tournament to carry on their legacy. i like to think she mixes liu kangs shaolin monk style with kitanas fans but in her own kind of style.

- kung lao expected someone who was just like him down to the last detail but got something completely different. disappointed at the fact kung jin left the monks to join the special forces but intrigued by how his journey is going/has been.

- kenshi was 10x more excited than takeda was solely because of the absence of his father during his childhood. kenshi can obviously see that takeda is gravitating towards scorpion more than him and is wondering why. its not like they dont get along, its just… awkward.

- johnny absolutely loves cassie and the idea of a family with sonya. he learns cassie was a high school valedictorian and that she found a way to make both jer parents equally proud, following in her mothers footsteps and joining SF and also keeping up with her fame by starring in movies and cameos here and there.

On a serious note folks, we are in a Cageblade content drought and we have been for a long time. No Sonya in MK1, no tidbits or nuggets to source. Hopes that the new movie will give us... Something. Moments on the screen. Ideas to play with.

smth to think abt: sonya waking up after first banging johnny, wandering around the cage mansion without knowing who she slept with— and finally finding the room with all his awards and reading his name on nearly every one. (pleasent but somewhat unpleasant surprise) suddenly she smells bacon and tracks the scent. to her surprise, no chef but him cooking breakfast for two (obviously sonya being the other person) with his shirt off and an apron that says “kiss the chef” and an arrow pointing at himself and him catching her staring at his insanely sculpted back

(It's mainly the music industry.)

Shao Kahn/General Shao owns a record label called Outworld Records.

Kitana, Mileena, and Jade are a Pop girl-group called Crown, under Outworld Records. They debuted in 1999.

Shao is married to Kitana's & Mileena's mother, famous actress Sindel. So they're Nepo Babies.

Johnny Cage is still an actor.

Erron Black is a rebellious Outlaw Country singer.

Skarlet is a singer who also models. Her music is like a combination of Lana Del Rey, Nicole Dollanganger, and (2000's) Paramore.

Nitara is a singer with the same vibe as Evanescence.

Erron went from dating Nitara to Skarlet in the blink of an eye. Erron & Skarlet broke up after a few months.

They all dropped albums with songs pertaining to this situation within months of each other, and people LOVED The Drama™️!

BIG Team Nitara vs. Team Skarlet shit going on. (Even bigger than the Olivia/Joshua/Sabrina hoopla was.)

Skarlet later starting having an affair with Mileena's boyfriend, Punk-Rock singer Reiko!

This eventually came out when the girls had a huge public fight about it!

Skarlet wrote about this on another album.

Mileena made an album about it, as Crown had broken up by this point, and they were all doing solo things.

...Skarlet & Erron eventually got back together a few years later.

Kano owns a club in L.A. that is very popular among the famous crowd called The Black Dragon. Erron is shareholder in the club.

Liu Kang is like the Bruce Lee of 2000's Hollywood.

I want Sonya Blade to be, like... a pop star, but I just can't see it with her. 😔

Regardless... the endgame ships are Skarlet/Erron, Kano/Sonya, Kitana/Johnny, and Shao/Sindel. But Johnny & Sonya had a brief relationship because I need Cassie to exist.
