I headcanon Omega bleaches her hair, there is no way the *UNMODIFIED* Jango clone is blonde. She's also intersex :)

WHO IS TECH'S BARBER??? WHAT WAS THE GODAWFUL HAIRCUT??? Luckily I had ideas in mind. I like how many agree that Tech dyes his hair a reddish brown/ginger colour.

Racism in fandom spaces is actually insanely bad and if you ever try to downplay or avoid conversations about it because "fandom is supposed to be fun" then I'm not sorry to say this: You're adding on to the problem.

People demand fans of colour to be soft & gentle & have articulate thought out criticisms at all times. Never be wrong never be loud never be mean you have to coddle White fans and creatives, otherwise you're part of the problem. Never mind that your whole experience in fandom has been one macroaggression after another. Never mind that fandom can never be your escapism, because the discrimination you face in real life is often present in both the media you love and the fandom you participate in. Never mind that even when you are soft & gentle & articulate people will still get angry. Just shut up and let White people go to their beautiful fantasy world where people like you don't exist

Style has always been one of the weakest excuses to justify whitewashing and racist character designs.

Education Minister cut Māori words from future junior books, documents reveal

The near-total ban was driven by concern it would be confusing for children learning to read English, documents show.

This is so bloody racist. The rationale that it might confuse children to have to decode Māori spelling as well as English doesn’t even hold up because in that case why are Māori character names still allowed? Will names like Ngaire be shadowbanned? Children might actually notice that Māori spelling is a lot easier to decode than English because the vowels have one pronunciation each and once you get the hang of the wh and ng sounds you’re away laughing.

New Zealand children know Māori words. Quite a few of them are Māori. Learning about kupu Māori and English words should be integrated to reflect that. This is one more sign of disrespect to a language that was finally getting closer to being treated as important and worthwhile, like English. I am so fed up with this poor excuse for a government dragging us backward.

Why does Aotearoa have a significantly better relationship with its indigenous people compared to other anglophone countries like the US, Canada, Australia? (Better being relative of course because its still a settler colony)

Potentially because the population ratio is higher, we make up 15% of the population, and no longer have legally enshrined blood quantum, due to tireless effort from Māori activists.

I still feel weird about insinuating that Māori have it easy here, everything that you'd consider better has been fought for by the blood, sweat, tears, and lives or Māori activists. None of it has been easy, and it still fucking sucks.

Māori make up 52% of the prison population despite being 15% of the population.

Māori life expectancy is 7.3-7.5 years less than Pākehā.

39% of Māori had experienced digital harm in the last year compared to 14% of the general population. This stat is from 2023, it absolutely went up during the time of the Treaty Principles nonsense.

Only 6% of Aotearoa is Māori land. I'll remind you that it used to be 100%.

My people are dying, we are in pain, we are treated worse by doctors, our kids treated worse by teachers, we don't have access to our land, most of us can't speak our own language, so I really don't appreciate you coming into my inbox, demanding I write an essay for you unprompted, and insinuating that it's actually all chill. No disclaimer of 'it's relative' can cushion 'why do you guys actually have it fine'.

it is really cool that there is now an official maori word for autism, created with input from autistic maoris, and it was specifically coined to be nonjudgmental

It’s also key to note that the word for disabled in te reo Maori is now whaikaha (to have strength or to be differently able), and at the same time takiwatanga and whaikaha were minted, about 200 words were added that also describe other mental health, addiction, and disability issues.

So now, about 125,000 of the roughly 561,000 Maori people in NZ will be able to effectively describe and discuss autism and so much more in their native language for the benefit of themselves and their loved ones. That is the best thing I’ve heard all day.
