Yippee! I actually wrote some headcanons. I have some more/a possible drabble focused around Mal and Regina in the works!
Regresses from 2-5, typically to around 3
She has dropped younger but only when very triggered or overwhelmed
Her primary caregiver is Maleficent
A lot of her behavior when regressed, especially early on, is informed by how she was treated by Cora :(
Painfully shy and overly polite when first interacting with a new person
It took a while for little Gina to be able to seek out physical affection, but she’s now very clingy and cuddly
Doesn’t like wearing anything too stiff or overly frilly but her wardrobe is still very “girly”
Has a pair of overalls that she would live in if she could
Horse! Girl!
(And actually, really loves all animals)
Definitely not the first person to hc this, but little Gina is obsessed with My Little Pony.
One year for Halloween, she insists that she and Mal go as Twilight and Spike ( “Cause I do magic and you’re a dragon” 🥺)
Fan of the non-fairy tale Disney movies (Aristocats, The Rescuers, etc.)
Loves being read to
Will walk around with her favorite blanket wrapped around her like a cape
All of her stuffed animals have a first name, last name, and backstory. She takes naming them very seriously.
Is prone to throwing tantrums when cranky and/or overtired. Mal just lets her wear herself out and get all her emotions out because it took time for them to get to a place where Gina felt comfortable to do that in front of Mal. It also prevents both big and little Regina from bottling everything up.
trinity who's always been more of a quiet regressor. not just because she tends to go nonverbal, but because all of it is subtle. she doesn't crave teethers or kid toys, she doesn't babble and whine, it's like she's just... stuck in a younger headspace, impossibly sensitive and emotional.
it's not always pleasant. it's scary, it's all-consuming, it's something she desperately wishes she could just turn off. maybe she doesn't wanna watch kid cartoons or color, but she does so badly want her mommy. a mommy. someone warm and soft and safe to take care of her like a kid, hold her and rock her, maybe sing a lullaby.
and it's embarrassing, so embarrassing to want it, when she knows objectively she's big. but she doesn't feel big. she feels so, impossibly small.
when her and baran start dating, it doesn't take baran all that long to notice. she's perceptive, even moreso when she cares about someone. she notices when trinity's words start to fade, slightly higher-pitched and softer til they're silent. she notices trinity's body language change, the way she curls into herself, the way her eyes widen a little, dart around like she's expecting to be in trouble. she notices.
but she also notices trinity's quietness about it— and she doesn't wanna push anything too far, too fast. trinity is closed-off for good reason. she's been hurt over and over, taken advantage of, chewed up and spat out. baran had to coax trust out of her with weeks of proving that she's here, she's staying, and she cares. she cares so much. but baran still knows they have a long way to go.
so as trinity is quiet in her regression, baran is quiet in her caregiving. starts cuddling trinity more, petting her hair. offering to brush it for her, braid it before bed. hums soft songs under her breath, pressing kisses to trinity's head. what makes trinity finally break, bury her face in baran's neck to hide her tears, is when baran just can't help but speak up and soothe trinity with words she's been holding back.
oh, you're such a sweet girl. I know you're feeling small, trinity, okay? I know, I know... I want you to know it's okay, sweetheart, I need you to know it's okay. mama's here. I'll always be right here, shh, shh... always... mama's precious girl.
You mentioned something happening to Trinity on July 4th relating to her self harm, if you're comfortable, would you be willing to write about what happened that night?
"my little versailles." 🪽. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
Baran walks up to the roof after a disastrous first shift on the fourth of july. What she doesn't expect is Dr. Santos already there, hurting.
tw: self harm
origin chapter of my little!trinity au ! this one takes place right after.
Baran grabs her bag from the locker. Today was a day. It was definitely crazier than she had anticipated. Waterslide collapse, the system going down, the Robby and Langdon shit,
She couldn't believe that was just one day. How long was she supposed to do this? Three months? A part of her wanted to find Robby's motorcycle and crash the dang thing so he could come back sooner.
She's about to head out before Perlah stops her.
"Hey, Dr. Al, um."
Baran tilts her head. "What is it? I'm about to head out so-"
Perlah glances around real quick to make sure nobody could overhear. "It's Santos. We went up to the roof to watch the fireworks before we left but I think she's still up there. She was drinking a bit so.. I don't-"
"I tried checking on her, but I have to get home, kids want to light the fireworks."
Baran hesitates. She only met Dr. Santos today and they already gotten off to a rocky start. She wasn't the best person to comfort anyone right now.
"I'll...check on her." Baran sighs.
"Thank you." Perlah smiles. She gives Baran her number. "Let me know if anything, okay?" Perlah heads out leaving Baran a bit confused. She sighs and heads towards the elevators to go upstairs. The rest of the day shift had left after the fireworks.
Baran hadn't joined.
She didn't think she fit in yet. They all had kind of a friend group thing down here. All had each other's back.
She barely knew any of them.
She gets off on the top floor and takes the last stairwell to the roof.
When the door opens she finds,
nothing.
Maybe Perlah was mistaken?
She steps out and glances around. They had packed up after the fireworks and there were still some going off around the city.
She's about to leave and call it quits before she hears light sobbing coming from the corner.
Baran tilts her head and gets closer and sees Santos, with her knees pulled to her chest, putting light pressure over a cut on her arm.
"Hey, Dr. Santos, are you alright?"
The R2 looks up from her knees and the wound on her arm and cries harder. She didn't expect anyone to come up and find her. "I-I-" She whines quietly and lets the tears fall.
Baran kneels in front of her and gets her mini first aid kit out from her bag. Trinity timidly pulls her arm back and shimmies a few paces back, nervous.
"It's okay." Baran says quietly, getting even lower. "I just want to help." She stretches an arm towards her, hoping she'd take it.
Trinity wipes her eyes and gets closer so Baran could treat the injury.
Baran gets some antiseptic wipes out and gently cleans the wound. It wasn't big enough to need more than a bandaid, but it was bleeding a lot and she doubted Santos would let herself be admitted.
"So, Dr. Santos, um."
"Trinity."
"Mm?"
"My name is Trinity."
"Okay, Trinity. Do you have anyone at home you can talk to or.."
Trinity sniffles and more tears fall as she crawls forward and wraps her arms around Baran. "Oh, hey, I-" Trinity sobs into her shoulder, mumbling about how she was alone and it was so quiet in her apartment.
"Okay, okay." Baran hushes and pats her hair. Trinity mumbles and nuzzles into her shoulder. "Dr. Al- Hashi-"
"You can call me Baran, alright? No hospital terms here."
She notices the way Trinity's voice got smaller and more timid, how her arms were close to her chest.
She says the words before she could take them back.
"Do you want to come stay the night at my place?"
Trinity looks at her and nods weakly. Baran helps her up and they start the walk towards the elevators. It was silent minus Trinity's sniffling and her wiping her sleeve every seconds.
When they get to the lockers Baran gives her the spare hoodie to put on since Trinity's shirt had some blood on it. She helps Trinity open her locker and grab her bag. They head towards the parking lot and when they get to the car Baran hesitates before starting it.
"Hey Trinity.. I- um." She didn't want to tell her about the seizure thing quite yet. "I might zone out or something while driving. It's nothing serious, but-" She starts the car.
"It's a pretty quick drive."
Trinity gives her a surprised look before she starts biting her nails. Baran tuts and gently tugs her hand away. "Come on, your hands are probably filthy about now." She keeps holding her hand on the way back to the house.
Once she parks in the driveway she goes around to the side of the car to help Trinity out. "I'll get a bath going, alright hun?" Trinity's head unintentionally drops on her shoulder and Baran flushes.
"Hey, uh Trinity."
"Are you feeling small?"
Trinity tenses up and sort of retreats into herself. "No, I- I don't know what-" She's about to head back to the car. "This was stupid. I shouldn't have-"
"Hey, hey," Baran interrupts. "It's alright, okay?" She holds Trinity's hands gently. "I won't think any less of you."
"Now how about a bath and a movie? Think we both need it after today's chaos." Trinity lets out a breath and nods before letting herself be taken into the house.
It was kind of decorated, like everything had been recently moved around.
"Sorry about the mess, I uh." Baran clears her throat and opens the fridge. "Got divorced almost a year ago, got to keep the house and everything. Never really had visitors."
"Right, bath." She takes Trinity's hand and leads her up the stairs towards the bathroom. She starts the water and makes sure its warm before stepping back. "I'll give you some clothes, and get some dinner ready?"
"Um. I-"
"Can you stay?" Trinity says timidly. "I don't really wanna-"
Baran stands still for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, uh of course." The bath fills up and Baran stops the drain and adds bubbles before helping Trinity undress and step in.
"Enough bubbles?"
"Mmhm."
Trinity splashes one at her and Baran's eyes go wide before she splashes her back. They both giggle and laugh. "I guess I should probably buy some bath toys huh."
Trinity looks up hopefully. "Toys?"
Baran smiles and puts some shampoo in her hair. "Yeah, so if you ever wanna come over again then you can have something to do."
Trinity looks at her amazed and tries to hide her smile as Baran washes her hair.
Baran cooks up something quick, rice and eggs. She didn't really have a lot of groceries, only had to feed herself. Trinity wolfs it down and they sit on the couch for a movie.
Baran picks a Barbie dvd she had stashed under the tv and pops it in. Trinity is enamored and watches it until she's almost fully dozed off.
"Alright, time for bed early shift tomorrow."
Baran leads her towards the guest room. "It's cleaned up, I finally washed the sheets the other day. Let me know if you need anything, okay?"
Trinity nods and goes into the guest room and shuts the door.
Baran sighs. Trinity looked like she wanted comfort but she didn't want to pressure her into anything.
She heads into her own room and goes under the covers. She tosses and turns for the first hour, the thoughts of the day were running around her head like sheep.
Robby acting like she was beneath him,
Langdon stealing drugs,
Being belittles for her condition,
She wakes when she feels a tap on her shoulder. She turns her head to see Trinity wrapped in a blanket looking timid.
"Can I stay with you?"
"Just for tonight?"
Baran scoots over to let her in and Trinity slips under the sheets quietly. They both were having trouble sleeping but didn't want to admit it. Baran pushes her hair back. "Trouble sleeping?"
Trinity nods. She scoots closer. "Lullaby?" Baran smiles and ruffles her hair. "Of course."
She starts singing a lullaby her mother used to sing her when she was little.
"'ank you Mama." Trinity mumbles before dozing off, her head in Baran's chest. Baran stiffens almost and looks down but Trinity had fallen asleep. She pets her head back in slight shock.
Only knew this girl a day and she was already this close. It had been so long since Baran let someone in, but.
Maybe it'd be a start.
The next morning Baran wakes up to Trinity being gone. She sits up, looking around before jogging downstairs. Her bags were gone. Did she leave?
She latches the front door open to see Trinity on the porch, pajamas on, about to call an uber.
"I-I think I overstepped last night. I don't want you to have to worry about me outside of work. I don't have to come back, I just-"
Baran hugs her tight. "I want you to stay."
"I really want you to stay."
Tears well up in Trinity's eyes as she hugs her back tight. "I- um. Thank you." She murmurs.
Baran leads her back in. "Now, how about some breakfast and we can head to work together? And if you want to stay again tonight I'm sure I can find some groceries and-"
Trinity smiles and nods. "Yeah, I'd like that."
Baran wraps her in another hug. This was something new for both of them. They didn't know how to go about it, but,
addison’s cell phone rang as she brushed her teeth in the bathroom. she rushed out, wrapped in a towel from her shower to pick it up. “dr. montgomery.” she answered.
she heard two voices talking back and forth, making her eyebrows furrow. “..hello?” addison answered annoyingly. “dr. montgomery, i need your help.” it was a man’s voice. a voice she recognized.
“o’malley?? how did you even get my number- this is my personal phone.” addison put her hand on her hip, still holding her toothbrush. “it’s izzie. meredith and i can’t get her to stop crying, and she keeps asking for you. like, in almost every sentence.” george spoke with a confused tone, and addison’s face crumpled into sadness.
“i’ll be right there.” addison hung up the phone before george could reply, putting on some comfortable clothing, putting some of izzie’s comfort things in her purse and getting in her car.
-
addison got to the house, knocking on the front door. meredith was the one to open it, trying not to show her surprise to see addison in such casual clothing and no makeup on.
“she won’t let us do anything. i don’t want her to make herself sick.” meredith spoke, leading addison up the stairs. when they got to izzie’s door, they heard the girl weeping pitifully from behind it. meredith nodded, walking down the hall to leave addison with izzie.
addison opened the door, seeing izzie curled up on her side, her back facing the door. the girl whined, hearing someone walk in, thinking it was george or meredith with another attempt to comfort her.
“izzie-bear.” addison sang, making the girl turned around with red, teary eyes. addison saw the wave of relief wash over izzie as she held her arms out, just wanting to be held.
addison sits on the bed and pulls the younger girl into her lap, kissing her forehead. izzie just sighed and rested her head on addison’s shoulder, tired from all the crying. “what’s the matter, sweetie? can you use your words for me?”
“m-miss denny. and sad ‘cause can’t do stuff a’ work, and george mean to me.” izzie whined at the end, almost beginning to cry again. addison was so sad about her girl having so much on her mind.
“what did george say to you?”
“sumthin mean ‘bout denny, bu i made him mad first.”
“that’s still not okay for him to bring up denny, sweetheart.” addison stroked the girls blonde locks, still trying to get her settled. she saw the girl’s eyelashes fluttering, trying to fight sleep. “can you lay down for me, sweetie?” addison fixed the blanket so izzie could slip under without moving so much.
addison laid down with the younger girl, getting under the blanket with her. addison grabbed her purse, and she pulled out the folded pink baby blanket that izzie loved rubbing her face against for comfort, and “goodnight moon” the girl’s favorite book. addison cracked the book open, ready to read.
“m’mmy.” izzie mumbled out of nowhere, her cheeks still baby pink from crying. she was still trying to get comfortable with calling addison that, she was just shy. addison smiled without teeth, pulling the girl closer to her chest. “mommy’s here, baby girl.”
