using the HER app is such a miserable reminder of how little i fit into my ownĀ ācommunityā. I swipe left if I see any of the following

any sexuality that isnāt lesbian or bisexual

any mention of āqueerā

Iāve forgotten how to use this site. I tried to reblog something with a comment and ended up reblogging it without a comment and had to edit it and uaghhh
Learned something interesting from talking to a fellow lesbian that was old enough that she was out & involved in the LGB community back when the AIDS epidemic was going on in the US. The narrative (on radblr, and other places that care about gay and lesbian history) has been lately that lesbians took it upon themselves to care for sick and dying gay and bi men because no one else would, that they were selfless angels, etc. Which is partially true, lesbians likely did want to help gay men out of altruism and a sense of shared community. But the other reason was that hospitals would literally advertise for lesbians to come in and care for gay men, because they thought that lesbians were somehow inherently immune to the disease, observing that they were not contracting it (of course we soon knew this was because HIV was primarily being spread through sexual contact during that epidemic, and gay men were the primary vector, and of course lesbians were not having sex with men). So they were literally like, 'well lesbians seem to be immune, so let's send them in' lol. And some lesbians took them up on it. there was a lot of ignorance among medical professionals and also a lack of communication to the public even after doctors had a pretty good idea about what caused HIV transmission in those first two decades. So I wasn't entirely that shocked to hear about this, but it was an interesting piece of the story to learn about.
that doesn't really make sense though. wouldn't near all women be 'immune' then, since they wouldn't be having sex with the gay, hiv positive men?
Iām not sure what to make of this. If the doctors/hospitals were asking lesbians to take care of AIDs infected men, then it sounds like the (presumably straight) staff wanted lesbians to take on the RISK of treating AIDs infected patients.Ā
Could it have been that the straight doctors were too bigoted to care for them? And any gay men were too scared of mysteriously contracting it, which only left the lesbians as the only willing party.
And of course, lesbians arenāt immune. HIV can be contracted through cuts or dirty needles, so--assuming the straight or male doctors werenāt having sex with their patients--the lesbian caretakers were just as susceptible to the virus as anyone else.
I mean, itās a cool thought that the hospitals looked to lesbians as these superwomen who were immune, but considering the climate they probably thought of them as disposable...
Thereās a problem with the abortion narrative. The argument needs to start and end with bodily autonomy.
It should not take a sob story for you to agree that abortion is a human right. If it requires that, youāre not fighting for the right reasons.
Should the government have the power to force one citizen to sacrifice their health, and possibly their life, in order to keep another citizen alive?
If so; why should that power start and stop at pregnancy? Why not force everyone to give blood, marrow, a kidney? Where is the legal and moral difference?
If a fetus is a human life just like every other citizen, and we can force certain citizens (aka women) to give up their health to keep them alive, why can't the government force everyone else to sacrifice their bodies for the greater good of keeping non-fetal citizens alive?
holy shit my account hasnāt been deleted. incredible.
I originally made this account in order to journal my thoughts about (radical) feminism, lesbian life, dating, whatever. I didnāt post a lot but it provided a decent outlet.
Iām posting again because with RvW being overturned Iām really feeling the suffocation of womenās rights in this godforsaken country. Itās a brutal reminder that the signs of female rights being scraped away at were not just our imagination or paranoia, but itās here. Itās concrete.
My body feels heavy knowing how many women will lose their lives to this bill, either literally or figuratively through loss of opportunities or being trapped in abusive relationships. I ache knowing how many kids will be born to parents who arenāt equipped to raise them. I think about how newborns being found in dumpsters and women dead in their own bathrooms from births gone wrong is going to be something back in the limelight again. I was naive to take abortion rights for granted. Now theyāre gone for most of the country. hell world.
If you have been called a TERF or would be considered one by tumblr standarts, THIS SURVEY (take 2) IS FOR YOU
I was having a good day when I came across this image on this hellsite
As you can see, there is no data or evidence for such claims, and I wanted to fix that. That is why I made my original SURVEY POST which I took down due to being misinterpreted.
So I decided to make a new, better one with explanations. Please have patience if you already answered the last one.Ā YOU CAN FIND IT >>>>>HERE<<<<<<
MAKE SURE TOĀ *REBLOG* THIS. THE MORE PEOPLE, THE MORE ACCURATE THE RESULTS WILL BE. I DOUBT I WILL REACH 10000 PEOPLE, BUT IF YOU HELP ME I MIGHT.
Take this survey if you have a moment
I'm waking up this sleeping account to verify I filled it out.
We all know what erectile dysfunction is but literally no one is ever taught what vaginismus is and it can cause people to feel extremely lost, broken, and cause people to take their own lives. Raise. Awareness.
For the uninformed, vaginismus is when the vagina painfully tightens and spasms when faced with pressure, usually from anything trying to insert into the vagina. Itās the reason I canāt wear tampons, and why many people canāt have vaginal sex without severe pain.
Thereās not a lot of treatments, and there isnāt a single one that is for vaginismus exclusively - theyāre all medications or treatments to treat symptoms, but not the causes. In fact, for a long time doctors waved off vaginismus as a purely psychological disorder in cis women.
Seriously, this is so unaddressed and uncared for in medical circles. Please spread awareness, even if all itās for is to let those who have it but donāt have a name for it finally be able to understand whatās happening to their bodies.
Iāve never even heard of this??
Me neither. :(
Thank you for sharing bc I think I might actually have this but I thought it was just me. I can barely handle so much as a tampon. Will have to bring this up at my next doctorās appointment.
So, there is a website dedicated to vaginismus which I suffered from for years and had no idea how to talk about it. I found this website ten or twelve years ago and bought some of their products which helped immensely. I know nothing about the medications, but the dilator set is probably the best you can do because it is a way to help widen the vagina on your own terms. I still have mine even though I havenāt needed it for years because it could come back later.Ā
One thing I appreciated about this website is that it emphasized that this is not your fault. Another thing I learned was that one cause could just be, you know, being part of a culture that gives women extreme anxiety about sex. This resource helped me when I was a lot younger and terrified that I was broken.Ā
Anyways, hereās the website. Please share it with everyone you know: x
I HAVE THIS AND IT FUCKING SUCKS SO PLEASE SHARE
