big fan of this post i found on twitter
a reflection on ten years of undertale and grief. heres a big thank you to undertale for changing my life <3
LOVE | part 2/2 (previous)
Thank you for reading!
god. I haven’t thought much about undertale for years now but “chara is the last person you have to save” is CRAZY.
it’s like. they’re characterized as someone who’s ruthlessly efficient. of course they would choose to sacrifice themself—it was like a trolley problem, if it was between their life and the life of Every Monster in the Underground then the answer was simple. but then, years and years and years after their death, you can finally FINALLY show them that their family would’ve never accepted it no matter how many people they could save. it didn’t matter if everyone else in the underground went free because They would be gone, and they meant the world to their family in an utterly illogical way. undertale is about convincing a child who never saw any value in their own life that they were truly Loved.
was actively getting ready for bed and t hen suddenly got completely overwhelmed by the need to draw this sprite. so here's the quickest sloppiest mouse drawing i could muster
i'm obsessed with this sprite man. he's really just chilled the fuck out
genuinely amazing job on the first day of the anniversary stream mike!!! it's a little treat seeing you and everyone's work pop up- and this extends to them as well. was also very insightful hearing your little tidbits in chess's discord, as well! hopefully when it's all done we can hear more about it ^^'
thanks for watchin. i’ll have more to tell tomorrow when it’s done
y'know i said this and now i realize there wasn't much to say to begin with. wayne and i were the camera ops for both days (i mostly manned the close-up cam but we took turns) and i helped with filming the pre-filmed segment when toriel pinata killed the guys. the last shot of that was originally a much simpler pan up but while i was trying to frame it everdraed brought up the similarity to the paranoia agent ending and that inspired me enough that i suggested doing it the way you saw in the stream. draed was actually playing the ending song on-set and i was trying not to laugh while getting that take
anyway thanks for watching, everyone. i had fun helpin with the stream :)
now, I was a bit late to the party, but I did play the demo waaay back when. Toriel's fight really stuck with me. So unexpected, so loving, and oh so purple. Happy 10th ❤️
TOBY SAID ON STREAM PAPYRUS COULD BE AN AMAZING CHEF IF HE WAS TAUGHT BY SOMEONE WHO ISN'T UNDYNE
CHEF PAPYRUS WINS!!! MY HEADCANON WINS!!! YIPPEEE!!!!
btw you should check my entire comic if you haven't!!
I never noticed he was holding a plate of corn in this scene
there was a period of time when it felt like 30% of my life was waiting for Undertale stuff to happen. It’s not like that anymore but the message of “you don’t have to wait for it to happen, you can make it happen yourself” still hits hard
it's basically just a what if. but this what if was always there; it never wasn't there and it will never not be there. every monster has to have a place to go home to. every monster has to have friends; have something to eat; have somewhere to hang out. the underground is a wide place. the only limit to all of this is your imagination. my goal with these days wasn't to show you a new hidden truth you will never be able to access, my goal is to remind you that you have always been able to go if you just hold the key to asking: "what's there? what's under the bridge? what's beyond the horizon?" maybe you guys feel only my answer to these questions counts or matters. but to me i only feel the opposite. this is just one interpretation. the underground is as big as you want it to be. and i invite you to come behind the wall with me.
