Please, no matter how we advance technologically, please don’t abandon the book. There is nothing in our material world more beautiful than the book.

Rainy days…
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) dir. John Hughes
Do people who pity Draco Malfoy for having his offer of friendship turned down by Harry Potter not know or remember what actually happened?
He literally said, “My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford…You’ll soon find out some wizarding families are much better than others, Potter. You don’t want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.”
He had just finished cruelly insulting Ron – one of the few people to ever show Harry kindness – with classist remarks about his family. He also alludes to blood purity. Whatever you think of Draco later on, he deserved to be rejected like that over his horribly superior attitude and obvious prejudice.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Draco had also insulted Hagrid and spoken of blood purity the first time they met at Madame Malkin’s so yeah I’m with Harry on rejecting that lil shit.
C’mon. There were times when Ron was a racist. And I think that’s the whole point, JKR wanted to show us that Draco did choose the right path eventually.Â
It’s 1:30 in the morning and I don’t have the willpower to flesh out every issue I take with this comparison, but I wouldn’t be able to sleep without first pointing out that Ron’s unconscious internalized prejudice is not even a little bit comparable to Draco’s outright and unapologetic hatred of anyone who isn’t a wealthy, pureblood witch or wizard. This is a boy who happily throws around slurs and wishes death on muggleborns just a year after the incident discussed in the original post here. No one is arguing that he didn’t have the potential to grow out of and even atone for his harmful behaviors, but the fact that he did any of that in the first place still matters. His prejudice is quite frankly one of his most prominent character traits throughout the series, and writing that off by invoking Ron Weasley for what could be called well-intentioned ignorance at worst is nonsensical in this context.
