We're still here, fogettabout it
the United States Postal Service has a podcast apparently
Yep, recommend listening to it
A kind word goes a long way
I heard the mail carrier come by at 8pm tonight. It's finally cooling off here in Arizona, so at least it wasn't suffocatingly hot. But it is getting dark earlier now, so he had a headlamp on. I wish I could have given him something to thank him for his hard work. Our mail people are working extra time these weeks to get all the mail-in ballots out to people. Because we have a 2-page ballot and several informational packets included, the envelopes are extra thick and require extra processing work.
All I could do was be kind and say some words of appreciation. It sounds like mail carriers and other workers are getting a lot of verbal abuse by people because stress levels are high, people are tired of political mailers, and anxious about voting. But please don't take it out on them - they are doing honest, hard, and important work and trying their best.
So try to dip into your well of kindness and share a ladleful with them and others helping us to protect our democracy. If we all can speak a few kind words to others, it will make a big difference.
We can be the society we want to see.
Bigfoot Sighting in Illinois
A recent story circulating on the internet states that a truck driver for the United States Postal Service came quite close to the fabled Bigfoot creature while tracing his route through the remote backroads of central Illinois. The alleged sighting of the enormous, ape-like cryptid so alarmed the truck driver that he had to submit a report online to Bigfoot research organizations. Details can be found at 'I was just stunned': Peoria truck driver in viral video after seeing 'Bigfoot' in rural Peoria County. The investigators promptly arrived in the small Illinois community to speak with the eyewitness, and a well-known Bigfoot hunter believed it to be a genuine sighting of the elusive sasquatch. People who claim to have had their own Bigfoot encounters in the same area have left 800 comments on the TikTok video that describes the incident, garnering over 360,000 views.
Even though this story may be intriguing and fantastical for those who believe in the Bigfoot folklore, I would advise against taking such an unusual allegation at its value. As they say, extraordinary accusations call for extraordinary evidence, and in this case, beyond the testimony of one person, however reliable, there is glaringly little evidence. Despite all of its amazing powers, the human mind is incredibly fallible and prone to illusions, false memories, poor judgment, and wishful thinking. An overworked imagination and a fleeting glimpse of an indistinct figure in the distance might easily translate into a Bigfoot sighting for someone already engrossed in the legend. There is no clear photographic or video evidence, leaving us with anecdotal evidence that would never pass the standards of proof in any credible scientific setting. Thousands of social media commenters are now weighing in with their own purported Bigfoot tales, further damaging the legitimacy of this story. Numerous social phenomena have shown us that people frequently make up or embellish stories in order to get attention, feel like they belong to a group, or just because an intriguing story can go viral online. A gaudy plywood cutout of Bigfoot draped over a rural highway is just a clever joke. Does this suggest without a doubt that the truck driver mistook something he saw that night for the fabled sasquatch? Naturally, no. However, given the complete lack of factual proof and the well-known peculiarities and limitations of human perception and memory, there is currently no compelling reason to treat this as anything more than a fantastical tale shared around the campfire. Compare this example to the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin footage from northern California, which, despite decades of inspection and research, has produced some at least intriguing visual evidence that is still up for debate. Further, maybe the postal worker actually saw a Bigfoot in Illinois this month. It is unlikely but if Bigfoot is proven real this case would need to be reexamined. Even if the possibility of a species like Bigfoot existing is extremely remote, I have no intrinsic prejudice against it. Occasionally, researchers discover new animal species, even extremely rare ones. But stories of the fabled sasquatch in the woods or along rural highways will enthrall us as humorous folklore similar to ghost stories and UFO abduction claims until a corpse or remains are produced and examined conclusively. These myths, deeply embedded in human culture, are acceptable. However, no matter how compelling the storytellers may seem, we shouldn't quickly mistake myth for reality. A remarkable story requires even more remarkable evidence.
Maybe Bigfoot was waiting for the mail
New tentative agreement for mail carriers is a disgrace
I'm a mail carrier for the USPS. Today, after more than 600 days of negotiations and more than 500 days of being out of contract, our union president announced our tentative agreement. [It's a fucking disgrace.](https://www.nalc.org/news/nalc-updates/body/Summary-of-2023-Tentative-Agreement.pdf?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAabg3eRkti_wgqVJecFjuxu5-a0Fy2CJ6CBPfmFK0JiXkNHWbglLO1r9TFI_aem_vEwSMOQsiZCwuodW7-s7FA)
To summarize:
* Our raises for 2023, 2024, and 2025 are 1.3% for each year
* The two-tier system that was put in place in 2013 by federal arbitration is being "eliminated" by...... everyone being moved to the shittier tier
* Our non-career workforce, a position called City Carrier Assistant who have worse pay, worse benefits, and fewer workplace protections, are being re-entrenched as a fundamental part of the service.
All this for a few hundred dollars in (prorated) COLAs.
There's going to be a movement for a No vote on the TA so that we can go to federal arbitration and get something better than this wet piece of toilet paper, please look out for ways to support mail carriers!
Yo why the fuck is my plush of Bill in OHIO NOW???
HE WAS IN MY STATE LIKE YESTERDAY
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON
For the love of god, please give the USPS more money so I stop feeling like this.
psa for trans/nb/anyone that goes by something other than their legal/birth name, PLEASE make sure to forward any name you get mail for. I know the mail system is far from perfect but if you are extremely thorough you can be slightly more sure that you will get your mail.
Also! Often if you set up your forward online, you will have to confirm in person at the post office, (this is to prevent fraud). I can't tell you how many people do not get their mail forwarded at all because they did not go and confirm it. As a mail carrier, I don't know your new address and honestly couldn't forward it myself anyways, it has to be in the system.
Anyway, thank your mail carrier (unless they're a dick head) and have a good day you can ask me questions if you want I guess.
call me a postal worker the way my package is in his male box
damn the mail is going again already...the post office does not even fucking have electricity rn
Yeah if we stop working for long enough a lot of bigger problems occur.
Hey UPS dude, yes your calves were very impressive, but not impressive enough for me to forgive you for Ace Ventura-ing the box of wine bottles.
USPS, my package started in California. I am up the coast and to the west, in Anchorage.
So... why is it in Puerto Rico???
Reasons
Getting really tired of USPS not scanning labels. It also appears that whenever I complain about USPS and their Universally Shitty Postal . . . . Screwups on here I manage to get an update on shipping. This is bullshit and everyone knows it!
well here we are … a transfer came in when i got converted and while my supervisors told me i would have seniority and the right to the route ive been doing for the past 3ish months - that was a lie! no more of my favorite route for me. really sucks i was lied to but it is what it is i guess, should’ve know better than to trust management
