Neji watching Naruto trying to shave (trying because who would have taught him with his only decent male role models that Naruto would feel comfortable enough asking for help with something so vulnerable being Kakashi who could very well have a full beard for all they know or Guy who is… a bit enthusiastic to be trusted with a straight razor and that energy can be too much when Naruto is already going to be anxious) while leaning against the door frame with a fond smile on his face before pushing off with a soft huff and taking the supplies from Naruto’s hands. He gets a sheepish smile in return, somehow with both too much and not enough shaving cream on Naruto’s face, and shakes his head as he carefully wipes it all away to start fresh, making sure to grab his own shaving kid which is far higher quality than the cheap razor Naruto usually used on other parts of his body or when he was in his female form.
“Are you a fox or a cat?” He asks as Naruto presses into his hands as he carefully applies the shaving cream.
Naruto grins at him. “Kashi says foxes are cats in dog bodies.”
Neji hums in reply, laughing as a clawed finger swipes some of the shaving cream and doodles a little heart on his cheek followed by an Uzumaki swirl on the other.
(A claim Neji would never be tired of. A sbol he would wear with pride. Naruto could cover him and a thousand swirls and Neji would bear each and every one with pride.)
“Is that thing meant for faces?” Naruto asked with a side eye to the razor in Neji’s expert hands.
“You’ve seen me use it for how long now? Besides I saw you try to shave your legs with a kunai.”
Naruto stuck his tongue out only to make a face when he got some of the shaving cream in his mouth. Neji had to put the razor down while e laughed at Naruto’s sputtering whines.
What neither of them expected was how Naruto’s pupils went wide as Neji carefully ran the blade over his skin, how Naruto’s whines took on a different pitch when Neji used firm but gentle hands to tip his head back so he could shave his throat.
“You like danger, hm?” Neji asked with a teasing smile tugging at his lips. Another whine escaped from Naruto’s as his partner who was usually constantly in motion stood stuck still.
Naruto waited until Neji finished and was wiping off the last of the shaving cream from his face to speak again, voice rough, trembling from the heat in the words. “Only when it’s you,” He said, slitted pupils brown so wide it was almost like looking at him before everything that had happened in the Forest of Death. “I trust you, Neji.”
Neji tipped Naruto’s head back for a kiss laughing against his lips as all his partner’s previous stillness shattered and the blond leapt to wrap his legs around Neji’s waist.
“I trust you,” Neji breathed into Naruto’s mouth, sharing his breath.
(It wasn’t enough. It was never enough. Neji wanted to crawl inside of him and be surrounded in Naruto’s light.)
They didn’t make it out of the bathroom before kisses became something more.
