Thinking about Stannis being born a generation earlier and being the light of Grandpa Maekar's life. Gets fostered at Summerhall. Every time he unhorses Robert in the lists Grandpa Lyonel loses a year off his lifespan but then remembers to celebrate because Stannis is his grandson too.

One of the things so interesting to me about Maekar is he's like... primed and ready to look for any and all threats, but he actively chooses to ignore the one inside his own damn house!!! Like sir. I know he's your son, but you can't "if I do not see it it didn't happen" your way out of this!!!

Like. We'll obviously never know if Maekar knows what Aerion did to Egg, but he's obviously aware enough that when Egg goes to kill Aerion he stops him with a hand on the shoulder. He doesn't need to say "I know", the whole scene screams Maekar is fully aware of the fact Aerion is a MONSTER

Yet. Maekar never really does anything? Yeah, he scolds Aerion, but like. That's it. And the scolding clearly isn't about the fact Aerion has hurt people but more "you fucking idiot look what you did". I'm sure he's probably done some form of physical punishment, but you don't get the sense he's addressing the root of the issue, just an attempt at damage control. And he very clearly jumps to his children's defense without a second thought of what could have led to those events

It's just so interesting to me??? Like. What exactly puts him in such a state of denial. Is it he doesn't want to believe? Is it he still sees Aerion as his little boy? Is it he thinks Aerion will snap out of it and believes it's like... a temporary thing instead acknowledging his son is mentally ill? Does he see all of it and not want to address it, and if so why?

The kids got redesigns! Apart from Vaegon, who I think I got the vibes perfect for the first time around.

Since the start I really liked the idea that Saera would have been the more traditional Valyrian beauty (if there was anyone left alive who really understood that) and Viserra the ideal Westerosi beauty of her time period. I didn't have the skills to draw that out properly before, so I hope it's more evident now :-)

Lineart for my take on Saera’s bastards is done! I mentioned them in my fic A Sister’s Sorrow, so for those who’ve read it, here’s what they look like! Their names, from left to right (+oldest to youngest) are: (Top) Braxaerys, Gaella, Maegara, (Bottom) Vaemon, Daenys, Aelyx.

Now onto the coloring, shading and line weight…
